For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think Zippi is just having a bit of a break. She mentioned RL... I am sure she will be back and hopefully very soon.

Boco - what kind of artists are you? I assume from the exhibition, you illustrate children's books? If so, that is very exciting. Even if you don't, the exhibition soudns amazing [very impressed emoticon]

Sorry for your upsetting morning, ahundredtimes. Does DS1 really have 7600 pokemon cards?

Because we have a new thread, you will have missed my rant out boats & the Levellers etc but that is probably for the best. I may have lost the plot.

I'm about to make quinoa porridge. Wish me luck.

ahundredtimes · 19/02/2008 14:47

No, not really. But he has a great many, and he thought he'd take them in the Weetabix box for some reason, and he got it out and trailed Weetabix crumbs about the place, and took the three weetabix that were in there out, and I said 'What ARE YOU DOING?' and so it went on. This was after he called ME disorganised.

Good luck with your porridge. It sounds erm, interesting.

We are off to Lyme tomorrow.

UnderRated · 19/02/2008 14:58

I think I'd be annoyed with that too, ahundredtimes

Tatties · 19/02/2008 15:11

Hello all

I hope Zippi is alright

Boco very excited for you!

UR I can't wait to hear about quinoa porridge

Littlerach I have a good carrot cake recipe, let me find it

Tatties · 19/02/2008 15:13

Here is a carrot cake recipe I use all the time. I use wholemeal self-raising flour, but you can use normal self-raising. It is easy peasy and lovely!

6oz light muscovado sugar
6fl oz sunflower oil
3 large eggs, lightly beaten
5oz grated carrot (about 3 med. carrots)
4oz chopped dates/raisins/nuts - whatever you fancy!
grated zest of 1 large orange
6oz self-raising wholemeal flour
1tsp bicarb of soda
1.5 tsp mixed spice (or cinnamon and nutmeg)

  1. Lightly mix sugar, oil and eggs in large bowl. Then stir in the carrots, orange rind and dates/raisins/nuts.
  1. Preheat oven to 180'C/Gas 4/Fan 160'C and oil & line a 7inch square cake tin.
  1. Mix flour, soda and spice, then sift into the bowl. Lightly mix all the ingredients.
  1. Pour mixture into tin and bake for 40-45 mins, cool in tin 5mins, then turn out onto wire rack.

Arternoon all
we have had scads of friends round and was raging success, (well in mine and ds's opinion) hurrah
I am not very good at chatting with just one person who I don't know very well, I think
so I invited LOTS of people and they all came and it was very nice, and ds disappeared upstairs with the oldest two (who are nice home ed family) and had a tea party on my bed I think dp will be sleeping in the wet patch tonight

littlerach · 19/02/2008 15:51

Thnak you Tatties.
It is for my birthday cake.

FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 15:54

SPARKLY well done you! LOL at you being pleasantly surprised to like vegetables. I think the ones you chose were quite brave also. Do you like sweet ones eg root veg? You might find it a good idea to include a sweet type vegetable with each soup if you are more a fan of fruit than veg?

Littlerach so was that some special Dyson day out or something? it sounds very pleasant for a vacuum related experience

100 I am sorry but removing 3 weetabix so you can transport your 7600 Pokemon cards sounds like very good forward planning to me. We had a clear out at the weekend and I found my old Pokemon. I have got a shiny Jigglypuff. So ner.

UR I saw your rant about wanting to live on a boat! Do you really think you would do it?

FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 15:55

Greeny at least you had the soup. How is your day, disregarding f+v achievement?

anorak · 19/02/2008 15:59

Hello all of you. Still battling the chemo nausea but fortunately it's usually fruit and veg I can manage.

Just popped in to tell you I had cauliflower cheese last night made with an orange cauliflower. You can get white, orange, green or purple cauliflowers in Bermuda [amile]

And good news - we just got plums and nectarines in the shops and they are yummy.

Greensleeves · 19/02/2008 16:05

Hi Frangipani

not too bad, considering [grumpf]

I have an extra child today, and she is in the next room playing my precious fiddle as only a boisterous 5yo can

How's yours?

FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 16:05

Oh good that you fancy fruit + vegetables anorak
How are you feeling - mentally, I mean? Sorry to hear about sickness.
was it very odd eating orange cauliflower
? We had some white beetroot and that freaked me out a little

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 16:06

he's good thank you Greeny, he's in his vest and pants listening to a story tape

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 19/02/2008 16:06

anorak, hope you're not feeling too crummy. WOW about the multicoloured cauliflowers, I didn't know that!

Greensleeves · 19/02/2008 16:07

I meant your day, not your offspring

FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 16:09

oh! very nice, so far thank you
started too early but I am DEFINITELY feeling better and more energy etc, halleflippinglujah

have just discovered quiche for dinner is 4 days out of date though (see thread)
I haven't a viable alternative to hand

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 19/02/2008 16:14

I would eat it, pregnant or not

but then, I am an animal

Greensleeves · 19/02/2008 16:16

today I have made 12 fish cakes, 16 mini pizzas, 8 wholemeal rolls, a loaf of white seed bread, a pineapple upside down cake and a strawberry jelly

not a fresh vegetable in sight

FrannyandZooey · 19/02/2008 16:17

I think I am going to do pizza
better get cracking, arse
I envisaged the next 45 minutes rather differently (it began: take quiche out of packet)

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 19/02/2008 16:23

Aw, if you were nearer I would come over and feed you lovely home-made stuff

MrsCarrot · 19/02/2008 16:35

I am having quiche too. I don't normally eat it but after the faboulous one in Diss I have been craving it. My flavour is goats cheese and spinach I think, and there is a salmon and dill one too. They are not from a packet but they are not from my oven.

I bought Felix the cat video from our charity shop and the one armed man in there has died from a heart attack. I feel very sad about this. He has awkwardly put my things in a bag for years - he would never let you help him. The place won't be the same.

filthymindedvixen · 19/02/2008 16:36

Zippi, we love you, come back soooon!
(email me if you want a chat, mate...)

So many lovely people popping in and out of this thread

Franny, I was thinking about your shamanic experience and agree, it seems to have been some sort of repressed dealyed shock to your last birth events. I still sometimes get wierd flashbacks to ds1's traumatic birth which was 10 years ago. Can only be a Good Thing to get it 'out there'.

Little Rach - were you one of the Chosen Ones for the Dyson?? Will you meet Cod??

100 - snort at Boco wearing beret and smock and moustach - I concur! (perhaps she should kneel down as well...)

Underated - ''Because we have a new thread, you will have missed my rant out boats & the Levellers etc but that is probably for the best. I may have lost the plot.''
Aha! Spotted it! You may buy my boat if you wish. And oddly, DH wants to call it The Boatman's Song after that Leveller's track

Anorak, just hello and {{hugs}}

Boco!! - Wow! WOW!

MrsCarrot · 19/02/2008 16:49

Boco - that does sound very exciting, and glamorous! I'm sure you can take a friend but maybe check beforehand.

FMV - I have your e-mail now. I am seeing ds teacher at 8am so I might write to you after that.

filthymindedvixen · 19/02/2008 16:58

oh MrsC, 8amQ
try not to cry...(I speak from experience)
Take a note book and write down what they say as a) it will help you keep focussed and not get emotional and b) you may find it all becomes a blur...

Dyslexia Action are very good and offer a telephone consultation - they are very expensive for actual tests and teaching but they are very supportive and lovely to speak to in the first instance.

MrsCarrot · 19/02/2008 17:06

yes, I havene't cried yet before a teacher but this will be my umpteenth visit and I always feel emotional. It's hard isn't it.

It's 8am because he does sports everyday after school. I will set my alarm I think. It's also my colposcopy tomorrow so it will be a great day.
