I was examined by a male dr and now I feel violated and traumatised

I was sent to a women’s breast clinic by my gp after having an issue with one breast, my gp examined me and referred me urgently, my gp was female. I assumed since I was headed to a women’s breast clinic it would be all female drs but I was very wrong and it was only male drs and female nurses, the male dr wanted to examine me, I was scared but I’d been waiting 2 weeks and this was a cancer risk so I agreed, he didn’t wear gloves he was sneezing my breasts and nipples both of them even when I just have a problem in the left, I left feeling extremely violated and went straight to town on the drink I felt traumatised. Iv told a few of my close friends and they said they would feel the same. Am I being stupid? I had a ver traumatic experience 5 months ago which I’m on medication for when I needed emergency surgery and almost died and ended up in ICU so I don’t know if this is why this has really got to me. I’m young he was probs mid 40s it was awful I didn’t sleep last night I sat crying but the amount of vodka I tipped down my neck hadn’t helped but I didn’t feel like this at all after my female gp examined me I just went about my day. But this time I feel violated that a big man in his mid 40s was groping my breasts and nipples, yes it’s his job I get that but it’s really disturbed me. Is it normal to feel this way?

Thanks everyone who has been caring and kind. The rest of you can go fuck your selfs I don’t want to hear from you. I have had a couple of days to think and I am STILL traumatised and have made a formal complaint. Yes I’m young but I have children, one recently delivered by emergency c section by 3 males. Iv had a couple of smears because of unusual bleeding in the past. Iv had a coil fitted, I also had a breast exam 2 weeks ago by a gp, a gp I’d never met but did I feel like this no I did not. She gave me a cover and only exposed one breast at a time when absolutely necessary and she only came into the room when I said I was ready and she left immediately to let me get dressed. Did I leave and feel violated no I did not I went about my business until my next appointment. This appointment at the breast clinic felt very wrong he watched me climb on a bed topless then when I tried to cover myself he removed it from my reach then stood watching me get dressed afterwards I was so panicked I even put my bra on inside out! After he told me I was good to go and I just left I was almost crying on my way out of the room and by the time I was out of the ward I was in a state already.

Do whatever you fell you need to do.

If you felt that he acted inappropriately then absolutely report it.

At the very least they’ll make sure that a chaperone is put in every room for everyone’s safety.

I do find it odd that you had an issue with him squeezing your breasts and nipples and had an issue with him checking both breasts when the issue was with one but then have admitted that you had a breast examination before and the female gp also checked both breasts etc so I don’t know why you would imply that he did wrong for checking both breasts as this is normal.

I think the most important thing though is to see your gp and get your drink problem sorted.
Complaining is not actually going to help you personally and so you need to make sure that you do both before your drinking gets any worse.

Even if he did act inappropriately which remains unclear. The drinking is not a normal or healthy response and I really think you would benefit from some therapy. Those who are suggesting that are trying to help you OP, although i’m not sure you’ve viewed it that way.

OP, I am sorry you had a hard time at the appointment and then here.

Your second post was much more concerning than your first post. The first post described a professional getting on with a job. I think he should have explained what he was doing and why, but your first post did not give me anything to criticise beyond a poor bedside manner. Your second post definitely did. I am glad you put the complaint in. I agree with those who said talking to your GP to process this might also be a good idea

I sympathise with you. I have heard of many horror stories of male doctors carrying out medically unjustified breast examination. The presence of the "chaperone" unfortunately protects such creeps. Sometimes I wonder, if the chaperone enjoys watching the live porn show. We do see male doctors punished for inappropriate breast examination. But the use of legitimate medical methods for sexual gratification is hard to prove.

Unfortunately, many people seem to think male doctor has no physical attraction to the female breasts. Criminal and medical malpractise reports say otherwise. In this column, some people think you are just a piece of flesh and accept the moral superiority.

The patient's mental and physical health should be at the centre of this medical practise. Squeezing your breasts is absolutely unacceptable. A mammogram or ultrasonic imaging should have been carried out. These results are 100% more reliable than a doctor using the stone age method of squeezing your breasts.

Typically, the hospital should have explained the procedures and give an option for female or male doctor. And if the specialist you saw, preferred to use his hands first, rather than medical imaging and radiographer's reports, then he is a pervert. He violated you.

I am a husband and father. My female colleagues have spoken about a particular GP in our area who likes to do breast tests for young female patients who go to him for even a headache. He did not offer to check my testicles when I went to him for a more serious issue.

😁 I think you should file a complaint. You deserve to be treated with respect.

Good luck.
