For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Can I pick the 10/10 brain for something unrelated?

I need ideas for things that DS will find so fascinating that he will not require DH or my attention for a period of longer than about 5 minutes, if anyone has any thoughts?

He has some lego, which has mostly been acquired from other people, and he loves the really small twiddly stuff, but really at the moment seems bored of just about everything else..or he wants to play games which is lovely when we have time but obviously he can;t play on his own.

I feel he is on the cusp of a new stage and not sure how to direct him. he's 3.10.

FK playdough, big lumps of home made playdough are v popular here, with a few cutters and rollers and things

scissors and paper v exciting at any time, also hole punches, special shaped scissors, etc etc

ball of string occupied a whole morning but your house ends up looking like a Tate Modern exhibit

Avi - I may need a link to the organic gardening website. I think I may get an allotment this year. Why is your DH winning fruit baskets? Sounds like good news about your job.

What is special about Manuka honey?

FMV, what is poi?

Glad the meringue was a success - big, mad, gooey and lovely - sounds perfect.

Will have a think about things for your DS, FK - what does he like, other than Lego? Does he like construction things? Trains?

FrayedKnot, have a look at this www.constructiontoys.com I like the zoob stuff.

How about a marble run type thing?

Craft things do go down well but always seem to need to involve glue which I have to heavily supervise.

Hole punch sounds like a good idea though. Would a stapler be OK, do you think?

He does a lot of drawing, painting and dough at nursery so I think sometimes he doesn't want more of the same.

ZippiBabes · 12/01/2008 20:56

no a stapler is far too dangerous what about a bab y they take uploads of time and arent dangerous

i would say so..because the staples are sharp and you can pull it open and staple yourself

OverRated · 12/01/2008 21:03

Thanks, Avi - that was quick!

Def no to stapler. And a baby doll is great. DS spends a lot of time telling his off too. "No, Baby. No biting mummy. No!"

I've decided - I want you to get a marble run.

FrayedKnot · 12/01/2008 21:04

OR I think he would love that Zoob stuff. It looks fiddly enough for him, and And a marble run too, his cousin has one whoch he was eyeing enviously when we were there. Those maybe good ideas for his Birthday

ridiculous thought since we've on;y just had Christmas however.

FrayedKnot · 12/01/2008 21:06

Funnily enough, zippi, we had a conversation the other day when he got really cross that (a) he couldn;t have a baby in his tummy and (b) I wouldn't have one for him

This sparked from a discussion about one of the girls at nursery having a baby Annabelle for Christmas

Perhaps we have hit on the solution

FrannyandZooey · 12/01/2008 21:08

we do stapling with supervision

ie I am in the same house as him when he does it

IN THEORY I am supervising him

he is a year older though

hole punches are really good and safe and they punch for hours and then take out the little punched bits

you can get shaped ones, they are even better

avi have replied probably as usual not been much help because as you may have worked out I don't really do HE, I just go on MN and let ds do hole punching and stapling

OverRated · 12/01/2008 21:11

lol @ your poor DS not being able to have a baby & at you for not having one for him!

OverRated · 12/01/2008 21:12

I LOVED whole punches. Still do actually. I'd punch away for hours. Then mix the little bits of paper with talcum powder to make pot pourri

ZippiBabes · 12/01/2008 21:13

dgs has obviously heard of this annabelle doll..the on e his grandma got him is actually a 10 quid mothercare one with a soft body

being an original thinker he decided to call it allabelle

Where's TooT?
When does Boco get back from her glorious week in the sun?

FrayedKnot · 12/01/2008 21:31

Best thing about a hole punch is that we have one

I will get it out in a low moment tomorrow.
