I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Did run 3 week 3 in gym on Sunday, but now have naff cold with chesty cough, and chest feel tight all the time. Caught the cold off the nurse in the medical centre when went to have tetanus jab because dog bit me whilst I was cleaning out stables. I suppose cold better than tetanus.

Do I move on to week 4, stay at week 3 or wait until I can breathe properly when resting let alone when in full waddle mode?

Ladyjogsalot - what are you doing? resting up?

misdee · 10/03/2008 17:43

well done everyone!

i still havent managed to get out, chest bug cleared up over the weekend, have stopped coughing up gunk, but now the weather has taken a turn for the worst, and i cant face going out.

one plus point, had to buy a new outfit today, even though i am still a size 22 up top due to excessive norkage, i did managed to squeeze into a pair of size 18 trousers. but it was squeezing, so went for the size 20 as they felt more comfortable. they are a bit baggy round the waist, but ok on my bottom area . hopefully they wont fall down at the weekend i think i need to lose another 2cm for size 18's to fit comfortably.

really really really wish i'd read this thread before last monday. I too am training for Race for Life. Never run before although i am reasonably fit (going to gym since September, and swimming and walking).

Without the knowledge of what i should do, i did 4 min walk, 4 min jog, trying to repeat that 3 times. Trouble is 3rd lot of 4 min jog i tore my calf muscle

Hoping to start again - following the more sensible plan that Misdee first linked to, in two weeks, calf permitting.

Soooo frustrating!

Welcome muppet and flatmouse!

I can't face going out in this weather so I'm going to do an hour yoga dvd tonight instead. We need to start a new thread or this one's going to run out! Do you want to do it Misdee and link to it from here?

I haven't repeated any weeks or sessions on the programme but I think if you're feeling rotten it might be best to repeat so that you're doing some training but not overdoing it.

Keep up the good work everyone!

or i might not

Going back out today, bunked it yesterday due to weather. Looks like the sun is coming out now, so it should be a good one

Good luck to everyone running today

Furball · 11/03/2008 07:48

I'm off out in a minute to start week 6 - just had visions of the run going up over 20 mins but no, I've been let off the hook and am back down to 5 and 8 mins again for today. Although day 3 is 25 mins [double yikes]

have fun everyone.....
