I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Well done Misdee !!

Widgy - I have all sorts of stiffness and aches. I have just been through a couple of weeks of really feeling it but after my last run felt ok. Am feeling a bit achey tonight so am going to ahve a bath. I run with a knee support on to support my slightly dodgy left knee but it all feels like its settling down a bit (I hope) and getting used to the idea.

PSW - I did the week 7 podcast today - the music really started to annoy me right at the end. It seemed to get quite repetitive but I think I may have just been taking my frustration, at wanting to stop, out on Rawb. AM going to work on my own playlist I think.

MrsJohnCusack · 26/02/2008 01:39

well done Misdee! (and SGK)
I did week 2 run 3 last night and TBH it nearly killed me (mind you it was 26 degrees or something here yesterday and still quite warm in the evening). walked for about 15 seconds of one running bit as I hit a hill . But that's the only running bit I've walked in all week
my legs and knees hurt quite a lot today
I can't see how I'm ever going to be able to run more than 90 secs to be honest. did anyone else feel like that and then manage week3?

Furball · 26/02/2008 02:28

Mrs JC, thats what so great about the podcast - you always think blimey I'll never run for 3 minutes but it Rawb just makes it do-able. I can't believe you only do the run 3 times before being able to do more, but you can!

wheelybug · 26/02/2008 08:36

MrsJC - at the end of every week I have thought that I can't possibly do the next week but you do manage it (although guess we don't have to contend with the heat here). Give the next one a try and see how it goes.

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 08:48

Well done all!

I did it! I started again My new running shoes are great and I have skin left on my feel this time. Wednesday is the next run for me

MrsJohnCusack · 26/02/2008 09:21

ok I will see on Thursday whether tis true for me too....

my feet and legs have stopped hurting so that is good

widgypog · 26/02/2008 10:38

thanks wheely bug. i am gonna keep going and looking forward to week 5 !!!

mrs jc ..I never thought i could run for more than 60 seconds after the first time I nearly collapsed i was so out of breath but i am up to week 4 nearly 5 and I ran for 9 minutes the other day ( bit naughty but just wanted to see how far I could go). So trust me it is do-able.

Mind you I am starting to wonder if RAWB strange music isnt hypnotic!!!!???!!

Minum · 27/02/2008 18:53

Finally got back out today after the interuption of half-term and being poorly. Went OK - I've still got a bad chest, and couldnt run the whole 20 mins, so walked a bit in the middle, but I'm really glad I went out, and hope to be fully back on track by next week.

Still hoping I can run half an hour by Easter.

Sounds like everyone is doing well, keep it up

SparklyPrincess · 27/02/2008 20:04

Hi, Can I join please?

I've been attempting to run for a few months but fell off the wagon due to moving house and dark nights affecting my enthusiasm.

Anyway, picked up again a couple of weeks back and getting into it now. Managed 5 reps of 2 min run, 1 min walk yesterday which is biggest chunk of running I've done so far.

Very envious of you 25 minuters!

Am going to sign up for a RfL, I reckon having a 'deadline' will be good for me.

SP xx

widgypog · 27/02/2008 20:27

feel free to join princess..not all of us are running 25 mins yet

LadyJogsAlot · 27/02/2008 20:53

heeelllllooooo fellow joggers.

i'm back, i see NO ONE missed me

well done you long joggers! 20 mins wow, 25 mins jeez!

fantastic misdee and sgk, hope you feel proud of yourselves.

i had last week off as was away house hunting. i did NO exercise at all . it was incredibly difficult getting started again this week, i missed my monday jog [double blush]. however, i went to aerobics yesterday and jogged for 5 reps of 3 min jogs.

that's 15 mins all in all. i am tired but feel well and truely back on the wagon.
am looking forward to my next jog.

LadyJogsAlot · 27/02/2008 20:55

that should read:

i went to aerobics yesterday and today jogged for 5 reps of 3 min jogs.

pinkspottywellies · 27/02/2008 22:54

Hi Ladyjogs. Of course we missed you. We just didn't want to make you feel bad for abandoning us! Well done for getting back into it - it's the worst when you've had a break isn't it?

Princess welcome to the fold. Sounds like you're doing pretty well. Have you seen the programme that some of uis are following? It's on Coolrunning.com I think you'd already be past the firest couple of weeks but we're finding it amazing in building up stamina. I never thought I'd be running for 25 mins without stopping!!

MrsJohnCusack · 28/02/2008 07:16

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

just been for week 3 run 1

did it all and quite pleased BUT knees and shins are killing me, wouldn't be suprised if I can't walk tomorrow. I think I'm too heavy to run, my knees can't take the punishment!

hello Sparkly!

Minum · 28/02/2008 07:19

Well done MrsJC, thats fantastic, you'll feel better soon I'm sure

Good luck to everyone running today

LadyJogsAlot · 28/02/2008 07:32

thanks pinkspotty. it's is hard to get back into it. however, now i've done my first jog this week i feel inspred again. welcome sparkly - 2 sparklies?! this could get confusing!

well done mrsjc, my legs feel decidedly creaky this morning.

SparklyPrincess · 28/02/2008 11:23

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm due to run this evening - so we'll see if I can make it to 3 min spurts of running without falling over in a heap!

Silly question - but what sort of trousers do you lot wear? I'm having trouble finding some that don't end up slipping down! Could be embarrassing!

LilRedWG · 28/02/2008 12:28

Well done all!

MrsJC - you're doing great, keep going.

I'm off out for W1 R2 tonight and can't imagine even being able to manage week 2, let alone five or six

wheelybug · 28/02/2008 17:22

Hello all ! Welcome back Ladyjogsalot (of course we missed you, we were just trying to hide how upset we all were !!)

Hello Sparklyprincess !

Well done everyone on the running wherever you are on the programme. I couldn't believe I would ever get to week 7 where I am currently residing. If you could be bothered to read some of my earlier posts you'd see we've all been there and it will be possible to run 25 mins in a few weeks !
I did another 25 minuter today and it was a bit easier (its my 3rd) despite DH having used up the batteries on my ipod last night so it ran out 5 minutes in so I had to run listening to myself gasping for breath which was quite off putting. I have one more run to do in week 7 and then I may well be taking a couple of weeks off. Not sure if I'm going to fit in running next week as I have to go to a funeral, get my hair coloured and go to a meeting at the bank on my dd free mornings and then we're off on hols on saturday for a week.

Soooo... You'd better make sure I'm back here in 2.5 weeks time and starting again (well not again but running at least).

Hope everyone's run tonight go well.

LadyJogsAlot · 28/02/2008 18:45

thanks wheely

it's hard getting started again so if you need some motivating, get your arse back here and i'll give you a kick

bramblebooks · 28/02/2008 18:58

Wow this thread has really got going. My legs hurt today! But I'm going out running tomorrow! Got my fundraiser pack from diabetes uk today ready for the big run in June.

I couldn't even do run 1 when I started and am now up to 25 mins (whether I'll be able to do it again with these knees though, I don't know!)

x

LilRedWG · 28/02/2008 19:14

My God! Second run of first week and I wanted to turn back, but I did it!

LadyJogsAlot · 29/02/2008 09:44

wow bramblebrooks!
that is so inspiring.
how long did it take you to build up to that?

widgypog · 29/02/2008 10:06

started week 5 this morning , I can t believe on Tuesday I will be running 20 minutes non stop!!!! seems like a big jump...how did anyone else find week 5?

Furball · 29/02/2008 10:18

widgypogs - I started week 5 a week ago last monday and thought I was on target for the 20 minuter last saturday. But I've still got this nasty cold bug thingy and can't go boooohooo!
