For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

it sounds like it might be good for dp to have some space - such a horrible and sad time. Also (this might sound horrible) but nice for you and the girls to get a bit of distance from it all too. I think it is hard if you want space to be sad when there are happy excited children around and you have been in the middle a lot so this is so good. Are the girls excited? Is peter shackleton coming? Why am I so excited on your behalf?

I will miss you.

Mrs C how are your mammeries - are you better. I might get some of that goobaloo supplement franny raves about. I think I went a bit hula hoop bonkers towards the end of last term due to stress and lack of sleep. that will help me won;t it.

I still can;t quite climb up there with you all on the whole homopathic thing.

My friend looked after my cats whilst I was away and I bought her some 'comedy' chocolates with wrappers of dutch great masters on them but she tidied things and threw away old fridge stuff and was generally lovely so I should have got her more. I might cook her something (loving form the oven or something) like a dutch apple cake? any ideas?

filthymindedvixen · 04/01/2008 18:27

oh Boco. You are making m want to go abroad with the children...I have a budget of £800 though - anyone got any ideas for a sunny week for a family of 4 on that?

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 04/01/2008 18:30

i have had 3 satsumas and a whole tub of frozen raspberies

som egu chocolate/raspberry ice cream ..a horrid combination

tho the tesco finsest custard and the raspberies is nice

and some slices of cheese

and a sunflower bread slice with light philadephia

and muesli

Boco · 04/01/2008 18:30

This holiday is costing a lot less than that! £600 for the 4 of us. But it'll be a pretty basic self catering place and some bed sharing.

Boco · 04/01/2008 18:30

But the room sleeps 4, so not sharing a single or anything.

filthymindedvixen · 04/01/2008 18:38

ah but our hol will have to be in school hols ....

I'll just add another zero shall I?

BBBee · 04/01/2008 18:39

that budget is huge filth. You could do a last minute deal thing or a camping thing. I love seeing friends - all my holidays involve going to stay near someoen. I am lucky that I have people in edinburgh and norfolk and the lake district and holland but no-one in greece or italy sadly.
why not camp in greece?

Happy New Year to you all!
Well....I most certainly must get my act together and consume more fruit and veg again, must also loose a fair amount of weight and start exercising again....because I feel as lazyarsed as I look now, lol!

Well...hope you all had a good x-mas...ours was a bit, erm...odd...Kids all loved their pressies and still love playing with them , which is delightful, if unusual, usually they can seem a bit ungrateful and unappreciative, you know...well, on X-mas day we went at around lunchtime to the Inlaws, and well, at the time it wasn't all that funny, I must admit...because for some reason there was a misunderstanding of some kind, and for whatever reason the Inlaws assumed we wouldn't be eating there, whilst we assumed we would....and there was no food for us (as they hadn't don't Turkey, but individual chickenbreasts instead)....it was very awkward, I can tell you, and I felt like crying, tbh, but of course we had to pretent that we had food at home, because the INlaws wold have been mortified if they had known....our eldest asked, why we weren't eating with the others, and we had to shush him and quietly explain what was happening, and made up a story of animaginary turkey in the oven so we could leave sooner ratehr then later....of course we could also laugh histerically about this, but, once we returned home I got all moody again, because, well, egg sandwich just didn't make the day feel anymore x-massy, sigh....but well, a few glasses of wine later we were laughing again ...and luckily he had bought nice Turkeybreast raost for Boxingday so, had a wonderful x-mas dinner then...
Would make a good storyline for a soap or something, wouldn't it, lol!
Next week I am invited to a Madatory Selection Day at Uni for the OT course...so, wish me luck that I impress

Anyways, how are you all...and do give me a kick up the backside, please

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 18:55

Fmv, how about a stay on a farm scheme? We have done this in Sweden.

FrannyandZooey · 04/01/2008 18:57

Oh no 3and, I can't believe you didn't get your Christmas dinner! Very nice to see you and I am sure you will be back zipping around and doing your proper exercise and all, soon. Good luck at the selection day.

I threw out a mango this morning because I could not resist opening it to see if it was ripe (it was the one I got in my stocking) and after all this time it ruddy wasn't and I was cross

I have also had lots of root veg in a kind of dhal lentil sauce with quinoa, and some satsumas. Oh plus blueberries, banana, raisins and apple for breakfast

OP posts:
3andnomore · 04/01/2008 19:00

how annoying about the Mango
As for getting back into the swing of things...I am finding it so hard....but I will buy lots of veggies and make loads of different kind of veggie soups that I can freeze into portions for lunch, and will start having some fruit again at Breakfast....and will try to cook healthier again for Dinner, that should get the f&v intake up again and as for exercising, I must do it again...I felt so much better for it!

BBBee · 04/01/2008 19:06

hi 3andno - not seen you for ages. The christmas dinner thing sounds annoying but will be nice as I bet you will talk about it and laugh every year from now on.

Toot - tell us more about the farm thing - sounds glorious.

(who thinks zippi should change her name baack?)

littlerach · 04/01/2008 19:18

TooTicky, yes, tell us more abotu that. I decided I wanted to live in sweden last week as I had been reading dd1's encyclopediea and it looked like such a ncie place.

FMV, we hired a villa in spain a couple of years ago, and it was quite cheap. And flights can be very cheap.

Last year we stayed with a friend in Italy, nowhere near any touristy things, and it was the most relaxing holiday ever. She is atartign to run yoga type holidas as well as B&B, and working holidays (WOOF things). And now they have snow too.
Maybe I iwll live tehre

Ghastly weather today.
Some veg, not a lot though.

filthymindedvixen · 04/01/2008 19:34

I know it sounds a lot but we want easy, beachy holiday (but not too costa del sol IFYKWIM)
How do you camp in greece? Would take us a week to drive there...

filthymindedvixen · 04/01/2008 19:36

We have never taken the children abroad and though I don't approve of flying...I really really, really need sunshine after last year's camping, chilly washout. (and that cpst us around £500 what with festy tickets, petrol etc)

BBBee · 04/01/2008 19:37

if you don;t fly you could take the car over to brittany and camp there - nice beaches - nice food.

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 20:22

Bo på Lantgård Absolutely fabulous. But anybody who goes will have to deal with my extreme because we couldn't afford to go last year/year before/year before that/this year etc,etc

Fmv, Sweden and Germany both have good beaches and you're not too far from the relevant ports, are you?

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 20:38

Can somebody please tell me why I am so grumpy and lethargic? Please? And then kick me.

BBBee · 04/01/2008 20:41

oh toot because it is january and the post christmas slump and you are a beautiful little elf that comes alive in the spring.

You need some nice crying chocolate and a hug from someone with soft arms who smells of cooking and then a reswt on a setee with some warm entertainment to keep your brain busy enough to think about something else but not too busy to be taxing.

pinkspottywellies · 04/01/2008 20:44

Hello!

BBBee · 04/01/2008 20:46

psw get back in here now!

How are you? Are you blue? A lot of us are blue apart from boco who is off to the beautiful sun tomorrow - hurrah.

I am on here not doing my work.

OverRated · 04/01/2008 20:49

Ooo, grouchyoscar - so glad you had such a great time in Chicago. It really is on e of my favourite places. I'm not sure I'd call it exotic though BBBee!

All this talk of hols is making me want one.

Avi - not sure if it is good or bad to have had the decision made for you - but good luck with what happens next.

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 20:50

I'm a grumpy little goblin. And I have been eating too much chocolate. I think some sunshine might help. I don't usually feel like this until Feb.
Psw, come back!
