For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

right i have had broccoli and prawns and grated cheddar

and some ornage and mago juice..well chilled obviously didnt knit it myself at home

FrayedKnot · 04/01/2008 20:56

Oooh, holidays

Boco I hope you ahve a fab time. I think your rash will have completely gone by teh time you get back

FMV it's crossing the channel that is so costly. Do you know anyone with a boat

I have an inflamed sacroiliac joint
so I am using the upstairs PC which is a rare event but has one of those kneeler chair things with no back.

I think I may be toning my abs so I am putting it down as exercise.

I have also eaten masses of fruit and veg.

And DS has suddenly started to recognise letters as sounds (I mean he can think of words beginning with certain letters now), and aware as I am that this has nothing to do with me because I just bake cakes and nod encouragingly over playdough, I am immensely proud of him.

I am going to investigate TooTs link. I have never really imagined Scandinavia apart from thinking people might wear stripey pyjamas / tights and jump into lakes a lot.

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 21:00

Which one is the sacroiliac? I feel I should know.

JustPossum · 04/01/2008 21:01

Just speeding through to wish you all a Happy new Year.

TooT, you are too pretty to be a goblin, you'll just have to be a grumpy elf. Do you suffer from SAD? It is endlessly dark at the moment.

Avi, I hope you are moving towards some sort of resolution of the employment impasse and that your headache abates. What did your F-i-L buy for your DS for Xmas after all?

Glad to hear that Franny is blooming and Boco has a health-inducing wizard at her elbow but alarmed at poor Mrs C, are you ok now??!

I am uber super mummy at present, looking after LO, getting my work done, and cooking much from scratch, hence eating much more F&V and consequently feeling terribly windy - and I'm not talking about the weather On the downside my home is happy chaos and I keep finding LO's cracker crumbs in the most bizarre of places but a bit of dirt probably just adds to my lentilly credentials (or is that offensive to lentil weavers? Mean it as a compliment, i am avoiding all evil bleach products, indeed avoiding all cleaning products right now. The hoover and I are estranged.)

au revoir until the Spring (which will arrive, eventually, even if it seems a long way off right now. Snowdrops will be with us very soon to cheer us up in the interim.)

pinkspottywellies · 04/01/2008 21:01

Hi BBB. No not blue, but I haven't been on here for so long and I can't catch up with what's going on so I feel like I can't really say anything

Franny. Hope you're feeling well and your bump is growing nicely [excited]

Avi. My mum says everyting happens for a reason and I'm starting to believe her! It'll all work out for the best.

Boco. Have a fantastic holiday!!!! But if you come back looking all tanned and gorgeous then don't sit next to me in the yurt cause you'll show me up with my pasty white skin!

We got some holiday vouchers for Christmas for PILs so we'll hopefully go away this year. Although need to get passports for all 3 of us which will be expensive

I'm going to run the Race for Life this year so I need everyone to get on at me about exercising!

Hope everyone's well.

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 21:02

Possum Wonderful to see you!
No, I don't think I suffer from SAD. Never have before.

JustPossum · 04/01/2008 21:06

Ah, because if you did suffer from SAD there are clever lamps and things now which help. Although your abiding penchant for Scandinavia suggests that you are not a SAD sufferer.

Anorak, I can't really say 'welcome to this thread' because the thread has nothing to do with me but I just want to say how very much i admire the courage and up beat nature of your posts, I am sure that lots of F&V will boost your system no end.

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 21:07

Holiday vouchers sound good.
Tell us about the race for life - howq far is it? Have you done it before?

3andnomore · 04/01/2008 21:07

Toot...sorry you are feeling low...tis how I have felt the past few month...but then, I always feel low in the wintermonth...unless it snows heavily (only if I don't have to go anywhere in the car of course) and creates a beautyful scenary, my feeling about winter is pretty much summed up by the word crap!

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 21:08

Not sure a lamp would do it. A sunny garden would. And the warmth of spring. The cold makes my toes ache.

wombling · 04/01/2008 21:10

Hello all,

Boco, I had forgotten you were going away, I am so glad that yu are, you need this. Make sure you enjoy yourself, and get as much mental/physical rest as possible, you deserve it. Glad that the rash is going away, yay for the wizard! Am jealous of 21 degrees, cafes, novels and expensive products and dresses. Completely agree with BBBee,you must do all she says.

Franny, good for DP, I am sure that it will help him to deal, but sorry that DS is going to miss you. Had to laugh too, at his wondeful comment, mucho respect to you, for creating the right environment for his self esteem to be so high.

Avi, sorry missed all the job angst, but sounds like fate has taken a hand....Hope it all works out the way you want.

FMV, Can you take the train abroad to somewhere warm? I really would love a holiday, but 2 sets of nursery fees, and wanting to try and move house in the next year, mean we have to tighten our belts, so don't think it will happen. I am not really the camping sort, tho DP is, and keeps trying to convince me, I need toilets and running water near my bed!

Hello 3 and no more, not seen you for ages! I am sure you will get back onto the path of righteousness very soon! I have completely fallen off it. Must eat more F&V.

TooT, sorry your feeling low, I do think BBBee is right here too, any way you can get a little break from it all, can DP have the kids for a day so you can have some time to yourself? How is DS?

JustPossum · 04/01/2008 21:13

If I could knit TooT I'd make you a pair of socks with individual toes so each toe can be deliciously snuggled in its own mini woolen yurt. But I can't knit. But the thought is there.

Wombling, are you still co-sleeping? Is it working out?

FrayedKnot · 04/01/2008 21:15

Definitely lack of sunshine TooT.

It barely got light, today, did it? We will have some sunny days soon I'm sure.

Sacroileac is that pesky joint between your spine and pelvis. Mine is dodgy on the right hand side - used to flare up badly a few years ago, but being pregnant with DS and subsequently seemed to cure it. I have heard this is often teh case. I am wondering if things have started to tighten up again so all the more reason for me to start doing some proper exercise.

FrayedKnot · 04/01/2008 21:18

TooT, whether this will make you feel better, or worse, but I have just read the description of midsummer celebrations at the beginning of the brochure on your link, and it made me go all goosebumpy...in a thrilling way.

And it says if you stay in B&B you will be provided with woolly socks to make your experience more home from home

wombling · 04/01/2008 21:18

TooT, Sorry You're!

Possum, I am still co-sleeping, DS is making me! He will not go back to his cot now, no matter what, once I have fed him in our bed, he will be fast asleep when I lift him, and try and put him in his cot, and within seconds he will start wailing like a banshee. I do quite like him snuggled in with me, but sometimes, I just want room to spread out, and to not be constantly nursing him, he has become a real snacker/chewer.

pinkspottywellies · 04/01/2008 21:20

Race for Life is 5k, women only, run/jog/walk. I walked it in 2006 when I was 4 months pg with dd! I have never run before so this is quite scary for me! There are venues all over the country and I think it's usually about May-July and in aid of Breast Cancer. I think I was sponsored about £125 last time. It's lovely because people of all ages do it - little tots upwards and people write who they're doing it in support/memory of.

MrsC sorry to hear you're so unwell. Wish I could come down and help out by cooking for you

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 21:23

Thank you everybody for your kind thoughts

TooTicky · 04/01/2008 21:24

FK, we were there for the Midsommarfest once

ahundredtimes · 04/01/2008 21:28

I am not blue, though don't know if this is any consolation. Perhaps I am in denial? I live my life in a deeply repressed state and so could be a violent indigo without even knowing it.

Boco - have lots of fun for us all.

I like it when BBee tells people what to do. They are always the nicest bits. I particularly liked the arms which smell of cooking.

Chicago. I want to live in Chicago. Why do you live in Chicago OR?

And - Avi. What was decided? I have been thinking about you today.

There we are. My plummy pink post Have to go and watch things with dh now, he is sulky at the minute.

BBBee · 04/01/2008 21:29

psw - i did race for life a few times - is really good - i always start with good intentions with training and all and then walk/run it having done not very much.

wobmle - thank you for the card - got all caught up in christmas so forgot to thank you properly. DD opened it and picked off and reglued all the sequins.

Oh tooty toot - make a dutch apple cake to cheer yourself up.

BBBee · 04/01/2008 21:31

fk - it is so strange when they do all that learning and stuff without any intervention - like their brain just does it - is wonderful.

FrayedKnot · 04/01/2008 21:32

I absolutely insist we go here

for our next meet up

www.sunnerbysodergard.se/nyastugan.php

Boco will paint us and we will laze languidly by teh lake and wear stripey stockings and eat strawberries and drink something like champagne only Swedish, and then we will gather meadow flowers, dance round a maypole and feast at midnight.

JustPossum · 04/01/2008 21:32

FK, sorry to hear about your creaky bits

PSW, very impressed that you have signed up for Race for Life,

Wombling, I have a snacker/chewer too and sometimes I get quite cross with him at about 3am and say "oh just buzz off!" and I turn my back to him (DS we're discussing here, just to be clear) and he grumbles but does actually sigh, smack his lips and go to sleep himself. Now he is not a teeny tiny baby i am on occasion a bit more brusque and it doesn't seem to matter, as if it's a want not a need, he tries it on and if not successful starts snoring. I can tell when he's genuinely thirsty as there's no nibbling and messing about.
To balance that, it is delicious to wake up and be all snuggled up together. I shall miss this when he is past the soft, fluffy, downy stage, right now he is yummy (15 months).

FrayedKnot · 04/01/2008 21:34

DH

I have been up here for 2 hours!

I'd better go and wave a flag or something

anorak · 04/01/2008 21:36

Am I the only one who doesn't know where Boco is going? I feel a right plonker.

JP thanks for your kind words, I have been an occasional 10/10er for quite a while, I disappeared off the scene for a couple of months when I was getting ready to move to Bermuda in September and October.

Well I've had good news from my surgeon today, the pathology results from my of show that all the known cancer has been removed, so I am hoping that after a course of chemotherapy I will be able to get fit and healthy again.

My diet plan for getting my body ready for chemo is going well. After seeing the surgeon DH and I decided to grab some lunch - the lunch spots in Hamilton are numerous and lovely and the range of foods very tempting but I chose a salad of spinach, feta, mixed beans, onion, olives and tomatoes. With a glass of orange juice. Even though I normally have a tuna melt

I have managed three days without diet coke too and I'm really pleased with myself. I'm beginning to feel quite bouncy already and can almost feel my body repairing itself.
