For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

LOL hello Habbibu, please join in

it's this old blender smoothie / soup question again, we ought to have an FAQ you know

My thoughts on this is that some ways of eating f + v are healthier than others. Eating a raw apple is better than a glass of apple juice, or apple pie with sugar and cream [god I am hungry emoticon]

Raw veg is better than steamed veg which is better than fried veg. Probably. But unless you are really determined to eat the absolute healthiest diet possible, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are not eating any f+v at all at the moment, I would concentrate on eating 5 a day. If you are getting 5, try for 10. If you are getting 10, try to eat more vegetables than fruit (apparently that's better). You could also try to eat more raw food, or more organic food, or more local food, or more variety of food. All these would be good things to do.

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 17:03

I have had: apple, 1.5 pears, 1.5 kiwi, mixed dried fruit for breakfast

hummus and salad with pittas for lunch

I think that is 5 or 6

zippitippitoes · 16/10/2007 17:05

FRANNY PAYING I DONT THINK I HAVE HOW MUCH I SEEM TO HAVE MISSED THIS

Habbibu · 16/10/2007 17:11

Actually, I think I'm probably getting 5 a day fairly well at the moment - today is a bit of an aberration - out and about a lot, but there is half a ton of veg roasting as I speak for a pasta sauce, so I guess that's not too bad. Anyway, awaiting veg box with bated breath. Will report back on progress.

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 17:23

zippi check your bb email - there's all the info there or should be

if not, give me an email that works

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 17:24

Habbibu we are not normally strict or (of late) in the habit of actually DISCUSSING f+v intake, but we are going to get our acts together this week and be paragons of virtue. And kale.

Tatties · 16/10/2007 17:24

"If you don't have mothering yourself as a mother, one's resources are stretched very thin" - Possum that is very very true. I am so sorry you are feeling awful. Lack of sleep is just terrible, makes you unable to deal with even the simplest things.

Franny I love it when you go all masterful I have been out and got LOTS of fruit. I think bootcamp is a really good idea, I need it. Excuses, excuses, I know, but I have been really busy recently and occupied with new things and my mind just hasn't been focussed on consuming enough f&v. Although I've probably not been doing terribly. For similar reasons I have not been to the gym for about 3 weeks, which I am bloody annoyed with myself about. Do you think we could give each other some motivation about it? Does anyone else go to the gym?

MrsC good to see you back! Capp too! And welcome new people

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 17:25

Did I say hello to Capp? Sorry if not.

Yes Tatties we are going to the gym. Me and you. The gym. Yes.

Habbibu · 16/10/2007 17:33

Kale??? Is that the law? I may have to run away screaming...

Skyler · 16/10/2007 17:34

Boco - have emailed you .

lionheart · 16/10/2007 17:39

Franny have emailed you to say money should get to you by tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 18:31

Thanks lionheart

my email isn't working, my f&z one that is

Habbibu what do you have against kale? Hmm?

I just ate huge portion of red cabbage, broccoli, sweetcorn. And another pear. That's 9 at least so far.

IdrisTheDragon · 16/10/2007 18:32

Hello . I am on a course again, but this one is quite nice . Not so good on F&V though. Will try and catch up a bit.

Had lovely night's sleep last night .

Habbibu · 16/10/2007 18:44

Kale makes me shudder. A flatmate once used it in place of spinach in a normally deeelicious spinach mushroom and ricotta lasagne and it was a very bad experience all round.

Anyway - have just eaten pasta with sauce made of: onions garlic carrots courgette red pepper butternut squash tomatoes basil and tapenade. And it was lovely. Huzzah.

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 18:46

Huzzah indeed. Ok you are excused kale as it is your first week. Don't think the rest of you can wriggle out of it

Idris nice to see you.

Wonder how 100 is getting on?

fullmoonfiend · 16/10/2007 18:47

I hate pigeons. And people who love pigeons!

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 18:49

Oh dear. Ds loves them, very much. He was trying to tame one today.

Dp loathes them and calls them flying rats.

FMF I wasn't thinking about the train thing, sorry. It is so expensive (seeing as how near it is) even from here so I should have guessed. Can it really be £80 though? Could you come by coach?

Habbibu · 16/10/2007 18:51

ha ha - already banned it from my veg box, Franny, along with beetroot. Am I really cut out for this thread?

MegaLegs · 16/10/2007 18:52

ask Boco to check this out

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 18:54

Megalegs come baaaaaack, come bacccccccck, you know you want to stay

Habbibu I am sure with our support you can get over this childish irrational difficult issue

MegaLegs · 16/10/2007 18:55

I'm still here Franny but feel a fraud as I'm eating lasagne

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 18:56

ooh I like pointy cabbage

Megalegs, stay anyway, you make the thread look so decorative

this woman has chickens and stuff, everyone

MegaLegs · 16/10/2007 18:57

I would like to add that contrary to my link I am not Craig David fan, I saw that video on something the boys had on this morning and recognised Boco straight away.

zippitippitoes · 16/10/2007 19:00

ah ok franny i have found it i have a memory of reading it now...will do it tomorrow

IdrisTheDragon · 16/10/2007 19:00

Right have caught up.

I am sorry abou tthe lack of bath for TooT espeically given the nipple-eske floor covering.

I can't do boot camp on Thursday as I have a different course to be on and to stay awake I will have to consume all sorts of bad things.

I like kale, I think.

Boco, hope DD2 is feeling better.

Possum you sound very not happy . Where vaguely are you?

I am hoping this "free wireless internet" actually is. Otherwise there will be a large bill tomorrow .
