For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

I must read the thread thoroughly and hope it's ok if I stay.

Just interupted by man from West Sussex wildlife trust who nabbed me in town yesterday and we are now members (I'm just a girl who can't say no!!)

Must go and help DH with baths etc.. too.

Can I come back later?

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 19:14

Megalegs COME BACK LATER

(I won't be here as have people coming round but anyway)

BE NICE TO MEGALEGS EVERYONE, I have been trying to recruit her (she has pigs and things)

oh and I have lost your email address, but I wanted to say do not worry if L does not want to email - it would be lovely to hear from her but it's no problem

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 19:15

Idris you could eat f+v in between the bad things?

MegaLegs · 16/10/2007 19:16

She does Franny - she was really excited - it's just me being slack as usual. I am going to send it to her right now.

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 19:20

oh woohoo

I thought how awkward for you if she didn't want to - I would understand but you might feel, well, embarrassed

Your recruitment of Megalegs has nothing to do with the position she might take in the 10/10 line up then Franny?

You know, at the Amazonian end?

TooTicky · 16/10/2007 19:46

Dd2 is doing something v. odd with her sleep patterns atm. She fell asleep at 6.00, having not napped, and has just got up in a milky, sleepy kind of way. We may be up late tonight.

FrannyandZooey · 16/10/2007 19:47

Megalegs ignore them. They have this silly habit of wanting to line up all the time in order ot height. It's just odd, I have been trying to get them to seek help but they are in denial about it.

TooTicky · 16/10/2007 19:54

It was Franny's idea.

I am eating a very ripe pear and trying to type - getting onto the swing of it now.

DH measured me last week, I am no longer 6"2, have lost 3/4 inch

ahundredtimes · 16/10/2007 20:14

Oh Megalegs, how nice. I once sat in a hen house with Megalegs and we had a whispered conversation over a chicken sitting on some eggs from Waitrose. I enjoyed it very much, but it all ended in tears I think didn't it? There was bullying or something and they were all mean to her.

I made a pie. I made an amazing pie! It had his name on the top and candles and he was so happy and he hugged me and said 'you did it just right, with the crinkled bit round the edges' and we both welled up.

Such small conquests.

TooT - I got your emails when I came back from school run. I returned, perhaps it will get there by midnight?

FrayedKnot · 16/10/2007 20:21

Jamie is making butternut squash muffins!

FK notes Franny's heirarchy of the wholesomeness of f&v but surely a butternut squash muffin is something to try...

Possum I'm staggered to hear what you are trying to cope with. We moved twice when DS was small but I wasn;t trying to do a phd at the same time. Somehow I think you need to fit in more sleep. I would curl up and die on 3 hours a night. Is your motehr supposed to be helping you out but she's not

Boco how are the girls?

I need some support on the not going to Tesco thing.

We seems to have hardly any food left in the house and what we have is healthy enough ut needs lots of preparation and I am panicking that I don;t have time to live like this.

I need to start making things instead of buying them (think biscuits, cake, desserts), and I feel very disorganized about it

I have realized going to the supermarket and loading the house up with stuff we probably won;t eat for weeks gives me a huge amount of confidence, and so I'm scared.

FrayedKnot · 16/10/2007 20:23

Hello to Megalegs, Habbibu, Gibbon, and any otehr visitors I may have missed.

Where's BBBee?

Tatties · 16/10/2007 20:29

Ooh TooT, ds is being really funny with sleep atm too - he is refusing his nap more and more during the day and then going to bed early but not sleeping particularly well; very restless and when he comes in with us later on I am aware of him quite a bit. The thing is, he could really still do with having his nap as he's not particularly happy by the afternoon if he's not had one. And I don't really want to let him drift off at 3pm.... I think it is tough being 2 1/2.

Tatties · 16/10/2007 20:29

FK I have been wondering about BBB too. Are you ok BBB?

MegaLegs · 16/10/2007 20:31

Thank you for the lovely welcome.

100x I remember our chat in the hen house. Thoughs eggs never did hatch but Lulu did eventually get a surrogate cick (although the fox got her a few weeks ago ).

Planning some proper hatchings next spring.

I still haven't read this thread properly got sucked into another one for awhile. You must think me very rude.

Habbibu · 16/10/2007 20:38

FK hello and thanks for the welcome. What do you have in your house? I used to be (when a poor student) the queen of making something out of nothing (in a food as opposed to strop way) and may be able to assist.

Tatties · 16/10/2007 20:43

Gosh Mega no, it's not rude! I think most of us find it hard keeping up with this thread

FrayedKnot · 16/10/2007 20:46

Tatties I found DS at that age was very varied in his nap requirements. For a couple of weeks he would appear to need about 3 hours plus 12 hours at night, and then suddenly not sleep at all during the day every now and again. I used to put him to bed (he would never nap on the sofa) and he would sing loudly for about 3/4 an hour and then I would realize he was not going to go off and feel terribly guilty for leaving him for so long.

FrayedKnot · 16/10/2007 20:54

Habbibu I have f&v, obviously

I have lots of store cupboard stuff too.

It is more a sense of panic at running out of something and having to be organized about replacing it and not just nipping to the supermarket where I would inevitably load up with a huge amount of stuff I suddenly realized I needed when I got there. And not having a single source of stuff that I buy all at once but having to think about shopping nearly every day.

Does that make sense?

I have obviously turned into my grandmother without noticing.

In 1975 she had tins in a cupboard on her landing which were from the war, I think. Or we might have exaggerated the story a bit as kids, but they were years old, anyway.

Habbibu · 16/10/2007 21:01

Tatties, Yes, it does make lots of sense. I'm about to start meal planning for similar reasons, and I think this will make me feel virtuous, as it will mean making a bit of a kitchen audit, and trying to ensure that I USE what I have, as opposed to just thinking I need it (the exception being my baking cupboard, which I like to keep well-stocked). My fall-back (which I did tonight) is to roast all appropriate veg, chuck in some tomatoes, herbs etc and eat with pasta or couscous. Takes virtually no preparation at all and makes me feel quite good.

Listen to me, all cocky and overconfident! It's all "the night before" confidence. I'll be scraping together philly, pesto and pea pasta again before your know it...

fullmoonfiend · 16/10/2007 21:07

hello megalegs, my fellow cornwall-loving friend-who-i-never-got-to-meet

MegaLegs · 16/10/2007 22:01

waves at fmf - maybe next year. DS2 dreams of Cornwall every night

TooTicky · 16/10/2007 22:05

Dd2 is now up and cheerful. So much for my early night. Will go back to my dalek I think.

FK, you can do it! I bake constantly (when I have an oven!) because 4 hungry dcs consume everything almost instantly, but it wouldn't be quite so intensive for you. Cooking from scratch becomes a habit. Work out 3 or 4 staple meals that you can make without really having to think - that helps. Also, if you are organised like Franny, you can freeze things.
