I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

How's everyone tonight? Haven't missed the wine at all this evening.

WaynettaVonSlob · 14/09/2007 07:23

Morning!

Well it's FRIIIIIIIDAY!!!!! I have a drinks do to go to after work tonight, and any time I turn up at one of them and don't drink, I'm always asked if I'm pregnant so naturally, I will need to have a glass or two!!!

I'm finding two things have helped me cut down this week

  1. not watching loads of TV (which I would usually do with a glass (or a bottle)
  2. Not eating stodgy food in the evenings, which for some reason always requires some wine!

I have decided that if I am drinkning this weekend I have a 48 hour window, i.e. from 7pm tonight to 7pm Sunday. That gives me time to have a drink or two, but also means I won't be groggy on Monday morning.

Enjoy your weekends everyone.
xx

Just seen this thread and skimmed it. I love the taste of wine, and do tend to gulp it down.

I realised I was drinking too much a few months ago - my consumption some nights was nearly a bottle, which was way more than I used to drink. I was getting really bad headaches in the morning, even if I had only had a couple of small glasses the night before. I think my body was trying to tell me something.

So I cut out all alcohol for a couple of weeks. I could feel an immediate difference to my waistline - my skirts were looser. I was really surprised. As I don't want to live life minus all alcohol, I switched to weak lager, as I am a gulper. I don't like the taste as much which helps. I drink the equivalent a can or less most nights. I try to have squash in the house as I usually switch to squash, especially later in the evening.

I feel much better for this both evenings and mornings and I think I've lost weight. It has been no real sacrifice, either. I wish I had done this years ago.

WaynettaVonSlob · 14/09/2007 08:35

V positive story Tigermoth - here's hoping a few more will follow from this thread!!

BTW - have you tried Carling 2.2? It's not half bad!!!

laloop · 14/09/2007 08:37

I'm out tonight for dinner so will have a few glasses of wine. Will likely not drink on Saturday and will see how Sunday goes... then back to school night abstention. Hello to those just joining us, well done to those who started this a while back and are reaping the benefits. Hope you all have a great weekend.

BarbieGirl · 14/09/2007 08:42

Carling is still fattening though. Best to drink vodka with diet coke/lemonade or G & slimline tonic although personally I would rather go without.

I have only had 2 (25ml) vodka & diet lemonades this week so quite proud. I might go without until I get to my target weight.

Had to laugh at sandyballs saying she can do mon and tues no problem but struggles with wednesday and frankly thursday is the start of the weekend! I know exactly how she feels Another white wine enthusiast here (can't bring myself to say ADDICT). At the moment I am drinking one or two glasses of wine (one large, one small) 2 weekdays eg weds and thurs, then on friday and saturday I tend not to count . Sunday is a day I struggle with as I would like not to drink but if anything is left from saturday it is usually too tempting to resist - plus wouldn't want it to go off now would we As I am ttc at the moment I go carefully during the 2ww and then have a blow out when period arrives. Switching to vodka and diet coke is a tactic that might work as I could probably stick to one drink then. Thing is - I love the taste of a cold dry white wine. That's what has me going back for more.

Hi all, wasn't planning to have a drink last nite until sister in law turned up with a bottle of weightwatchers wine. Had 2 glasses. When she left felt like another but had dinner and urge dissappeared. I can feel however the need for a drink tonight, just because.....its friday? something to look forward to perhaps!

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 09:45

Been involved in another thread about a woman whose dh is drinking a bit more than usual with no ill effects. Its nice to feel that, having a drink is not a problem (although I know can be in different circumstances) and to most is just a way of relaxing enjoying yourself/winding down.

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 09:50

Only problem i have is that if I don't have a drink for a while, when i do, I drink fast, don't eat and occassionally say after usually 4 glasses am completely gone! This is what I hate. I just can't hold my drink where others around me can drink all evening/day whatever I can't and never have been able to. I'm one of those "a coulple of glasses and she's anyones" (although not literally!)However if I drink something else say gin I am fine.....but I don't like gin, I like wine!

tigermoth · 14/09/2007 09:59

I'll look out for Carling 2:2 - thanks!. The calories may be are more than a gin and slimline tonic, but I know I'd gulp down g&t in a very unladylike way!

themoon66 · 14/09/2007 11:01

I managed to drink only fresh orange and lemonade last night again. That's 2 alcohol free nights in row now.

Off to cinema and a curry after with best mate tonight. I know she is trying to not drink after having a liver test scare recently.

We are both going to try sticking to iced water with the curry.

WaynettaVonSlob · 14/09/2007 13:19

Maybe they'll have alcohol-free Cobra? ???

BarbieGirl · 14/09/2007 13:48

Never heard of WeightWatchers wine - are you having a laugh ?

I am going to try a splash of Vodka with Slimline bitter lemon tonight. It will probably be gross but less calories than Wine.

Yes, WW make their own wine, its ok and quite low in alcohol content. I alternatively drink Gin & S Bitter Lemon when trying to be good, its nice and refreshing but gets boring after a while.

BarbieGirl · 14/09/2007 15:02

agree. Nothing is as nice tasting than a glass of Wine. I am going to miss it but I need to loose 14lbs.

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 15:11

Good Luck, I am dieting too, unfortunately Im usually good food wise but tend not to include wine in my calorie counting and of course after a few drinks the night before Im usually ravenous!

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 16:33

Anyone about later, I for one have decided to have a little drinkie and chat on mn. I have such a boring day doing the usual stuff. start a new job on monday so deserve a treat. Chat later

BarbieGirl · 14/09/2007 17:33

I will be around later. I think you deserve a drink as you are starting a new job Monday - any excuse .

My friend just popped around with a bottle of wine and a chat however I have abstained.

Might go and pour a Vodka and Slimline Bitter Lemon instead .

sibble · 14/09/2007 19:29

fell at the first hurdle last night and had a glass of red as dh away for the night. despite falling off my perch feel very proud of myself as was one glass not one bottle as is so easy to do . maybe dh should go away more often I couldn't bear the thought of something happening during the night and me being too groggy to react. we also live in the middle of nowhere so the thought of having to jump in the car and drive after more than a glass not good. anyway, ds2 woke me at 5am this morning and instead of being mrs grumpy I actually felt good. not sure how will fair over the weekend but have made a good start.

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 19:33

Well done you, don't you always hate that though, what if this happens, what if that happens, I know all parents think that but it seems to be a female thing (god, I hope you're nor a man)

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 19:35

I know you are ALL WOMAN sorry for that. Being a newbie really don't want to speak out of turn and upset anyone!

sibble · 14/09/2007 19:37

lol, no I'm not Hayley Cropper

jooleybee · 14/09/2007 19:38
