I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

Sadly I've lost count of the number of times I've decided to do similar (but bottles of Tiger are my undoing)

Good luck!

mummypoppins · 11/09/2007 22:19

Me too me too me too me too ( excited emotcion face )

Am calling in with a cup of tea and no wine has passed my lips.....not a G & T either which is my fall back.

So one day down. Well done all the rest of you too.

Its funny I can resist alcohol at work do's.....I too have to do a lot of entertaining..........its coming home to the drudgery of domestic life and a house half renovated that I find hard ! I love being able to sink into the chair.....switch off and get all fuzzy headed on white wine...............all my stresses float away!

Good night

Ooops crossed post.

I am ashamed to say the number of times I have opened a 2nd bottle. Staggered to bed and then got up at 4am........because more than a bottle keeps me awake.........and tipped the rest of the bottle down the sink vowing never to drink again.....familiar ????

Well done MommyP! Bet you feel better for it this morning (..wonders if tea sales are going to sore....)
I have to say that dragging my sorry ass out of bed at 5.15 is easier with a clear head!

Now, today is Wednesday, which means it's the middle of the week, so only today and tomorrow to go till Friday.

And MP - totally agree with you with work vs home. I can come home from a work do totally sober, yet some nights get tipsy at home....

WaynettaVonSlob · 12/09/2007 07:22

shit - sorry MummyP - just realised I was calling you 'Mommy' - no idea where that came from......

themoon66 · 12/09/2007 11:41

I resisted the wine last night, but had a bottle of Grolsh lager, which I doubled in size by making it into shandy.

Not perfect I know, but better than drinking the whole bottle of rose that is sitting unopened in the fridge now.

Had a bit of a lapse yesterday - quite rare - but thought I would post it so that you could beat me up - which I fully deserve.

Half a bottle of white last night. Big effort to put bottle back in fridge. Managed it. It will still be there tonight though. Big effort of will required not to touch it until the weekend.

themoon66 · 12/09/2007 11:52

You opened a bottle and managed to drink ONLY half???

I, for one, am not going to beat you up about that.... Jeez. I think you deserve a pat on the back for your amazing willpower

mummypoppins · 12/09/2007 14:04

Second that Moon 66..............I always finish the bottle and get quite possesive if I have to share it! LOL

So well done Hurly burly I am v impressed.

have a crap day. Just spent 2 hours o the M way in a jam and so so busy I could have done without it!!

Hi everyone, having "one of those days" here too, feel as if I haven't stopped, still heaps to do. Would be sooooo easy to pour a glass or two of red after wee ones go to bed but will do my best to stick to the herbal tea instead. Think it's always more difficult after a couple of nights off but I want to keep to the "not on a school nights" rule.

kookaburra · 12/09/2007 18:35

Mummypoppind - re moving to G&T & away from wine - I am desperately trying to drink fewer of those.{blush] Am deffo drinking far too much - would probably drink less if i drank wine as I don't like it as much... Any tips for me...?

RosaLuxembourg · 12/09/2007 21:59

Glad I found this thread. Can I join? DH and I decided to give up for three months as we have both put on a stone over the past three months due to excessive wine consumption. We started last Monday so 10 days now - Friday and Saturday nights were the hard ones. I hadn't realised just how much I had become reliant on wine for my unwinding process.
On the plus side, I lost three pounds this week.

laloop · 13/09/2007 08:36

Hi Rosa, welcome.

Was a bit quiet here last night, how did you all get on? Confession time...I fell off the wagon and opened a bottle of wine. Should have had a G&T as would only have had the one . Back on the wagon today for sure.

sibble · 13/09/2007 08:46

ok, count me in, am a wine monster and not doing too well at the moment. Too tired all the time.

wheelybug · 13/09/2007 09:07

Well done everyone !

I have managed 3 nights without any alcohol whatsover - am most proud of myself. DH has definitely cut back too (he didn't have any at home last night but had been to a drinks reception before coming home so had 1 there I think).

WaynettaVonSlob · 13/09/2007 10:14

Hi girls - welcome to the newcomers, and well done to everyone....
It's THURSDAY!!!! so, nearly there for those of us too slack to do this 7 days a week.

Yesterday evening, insted of collapsing with a bottle of wine watching TV I actually cleaned the spare room and sorted out all the clothes on the bottom of my wardrobe (which did only involve hanging or chucking in the laundry, but still)
I then re-arranged my shoes.......and found some I had forgotten I had!!!

claricebeansmum · 13/09/2007 10:27

Can I join too please?

It was becoming such a habit and when I got tetchy at 7pm if there was not a glass to hand I knew I had to stop.

It is quite hard too but we are nearly at Friday. I am allowing wine on Friday and Saturday evenings only.

mylastrolo · 13/09/2007 10:59

definately starting this on monday hubby too we drink too much wine ditto to feeling tetchy in evenings. using wine too much to unwind. plus need to loose some weight too. stops you doing things sorting wardrobe well done. right going to start monday none during week only at week-ends.

jooleybee · 13/09/2007 11:11

Hi fellow wine drinkers. I used to run a pub now m finding it easier but still like many look forward to having a rewarding/relaxing/good/bad day drink not every day mind which is good for me. Also started WW yesterday so really need to limit do like gin and b lemon but get fed up after while. Also dh and ds hate me drinking even though dh drinks but not at home so have another guilt trip everytime I am seen with a gls at home.

themoon66 · 13/09/2007 13:26

Well done everyone so far.

I managed with no alcohol at all last night (first night in ages).

I had a large glass of fresh orange, topped up with diet lemonade. I got the vodka out to put a dash in, then stopped myself.

have now hidden said voddy behind all the cereal boxes so I cannot see it.

BarbieGirl · 13/09/2007 16:09

Yesturday I bought a small bottle of Vodka, some diet Lemonade & Lime Cordial - thought it would contain less calories than wine. I also bought one of those measure thingy's like they use in the pubs to make sure I didn't pour too much voddy (not used to drinking spirits) anyway, after 2 drinks I decided I would rather be teetotal than drink that stuff (revolting), now I have a spare bottle of voddy that I want drink. Anyone won't it? .

BarbieGirl · 13/09/2007 16:10

won't drink not want drink.

pinkisthatme · 13/09/2007 20:11

Have been watching this thread from the start but now have to actually join in! Am also in a passionate love affair with white wine & have just consumed most of a bottle, nearly flipped at dh for wanting a tiny glass of MY bottle! Have been good all week though but it's so close to the weekend, unfortunately though there's no escaping the school run tomorrow & the aerobics session I booked which seemed a good idea at the time!!
I really want to cut down but what can replace our passion?
