I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

Sandy Balls that is my problem too.............my children just dont know any different which is really bad.

But then here is my other problem. Its 7.50pm and I am still in the office. Im hungry and tired and when I get home in about half an hour I will desp need a drink!

A 12 hour day is not unsual for me i am afraid.

Mummypoppins- DON'T GIVE IN!!
On the way home on train this evening I was fantasising about a drink, but since I've been home I've kept myself really busy and so far so good.
About to have a cup of peppermint tea now (yawn!)

Just think how nice you'll feel in the morning having got through this evening.

expatinscotland · 10/09/2007 20:52

I've got sinusitis and hayfever. That'll put you off booze.

Want it? I'll gladly swap!

laloop · 11/09/2007 08:23

How did you all get on last night? Pleased to report that I had some tea after I put the children to bed last night. Didn't actually miss the wine, think I've just got into a bad habit of pouring a few glasses of wine most evenings. Will have to break the associations and get into a different routine now.

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 08:24

Well Day 1 down, and 100% success rate so far! and am having a very productive morning at work, so double whammy!

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/09/2007 08:38

I read a thread somewhere about the number of units people were drinking in a week, and when someone was talking about their 70 units a week I was shocked and very smug - until I realised that if you're drinking a bottle every night then that is probably what that equates to as well!

And we had slowly but surely built up to 2 bottles a night - sometimes more at the weekend

My problem is that DH doesn't see this as a problem (although I have noticed that since me going on about it, he's much better than I am at not drinking during the week)

So I'm going to join you and reinforce what we've been trying to do for some months now, i.e. not drink during the week. The challenge will also be to stop the weekend being a bingefest to compensate for this!

I have an added incentive of a holiday at half term, and I have to lose at least half a stone by then if I am to get into my holiday clothes!

Count me in. I managed last night quite successfully - the trick I find is to get through the 6-8 hours without a drink. After that it doesn't bother me.

fortunecookie · 11/09/2007 08:42

mummypoppins, I would love to join you. I'm also doing WW & wine is my biggest problem. I don't drink bucketfulls but I can easily down most of a bottle of icy cold dry white in an evening. I've stopped buying white & allow myself 1 glass of red with dinner. It's tough.

wheelybug · 11/09/2007 09:02

ooh count me in. DH and I usually share a bottle of wine a night but usually at about 10pm when he gets home from work so its usually late and quick. DH too works like you mummypoppins so he really feels like he needs a drink when he gets in and I am weak willed and get swept along.

But, we came back from hols on sunday with a new resolve - I didn't have a drink last night at all and DH had 1 glass so not bad all round.

Hurlyburly · 11/09/2007 09:14

How you doing Mummypoppins? Everyone?

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 09:22

Welcome newcomers........presume Mummypoppins as having a busy day..........
My target for this week is to break the cycle and the association.....

anorak · 11/09/2007 09:28

BecauseImWorthIt I can see why your husband doesn't worry - men can be healthy on a much higher alcohol intake than women. The problem I find is we go out and we match them drink for drink and our bodies just can't take it!

I too could easily drink buckets every night - I really enjoy it and quite honestly if you go out and don't drink I really don't have half as much fun.

So I'm currently using the plan of only drinking at home if I have company round for dinner and then keep it steady and don't drink as much as they do. At the moment I have one normal and one individual wine bottle in my recycling bin, that's 11 days' worth. And a friend helped me with that!

Because my DH is away I'm going out less and inviting people round less because I am packing up to join him.

Another good step is when you go out have a diet coke first drink before you reward yourself with a wine.

Replace the habit with something else - as some of you have said it really helps.

mummypoppins · 11/09/2007 13:38

Good afternoon...........well I am proud of you all WELL DONE. I arrived home at 9pm and fell with a glass of red..........and then another. Hopeless.

Realised that I can't go from drinking a bottle a night to nothing in one go so there is no more wine in the house and I will have a G & T tonight. Massively busy at work. Its a double edged sword. I have very little financial constraints and therefore I could easily drink what I wanted.Lucky I know. Im not complaining.

This thread has really helped me even though I failed. I will do it tonight.

Please dont give up on me.............LOL out you BIWI. I too was smug about my units until I had a BUPA health screen a few years back and was far too honest about my intake. I have since learnt that the medical profession double whatever you say you are drinking as most people underestimate!

AND yesterday we cremated my 46 year old cousin who died of cancer of the pancres. She worked in a pub and that most likely was her downfall.

A sobering thought.

Reporting in for Tuesday..... I did not have a single glass last night. Slept very badly and felt like shite this morning, but I know that it will get better if I stay on the wagon tonight.

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 14:25

Well done MommyP - take it one step at a time.... about your cousin.

laloop · 11/09/2007 15:49

Sorry to hear about your cousin, mummyp .

All the best for tonight everyone.

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 20:30

How are we doing? I've been trying to keep busy but I can hear the wine calling me.....
Need a slap on the wrists please!

Beetroot · 11/09/2007 20:31

no don't drink - have a glass of iced colg water or a cup of tea

laloop · 11/09/2007 20:37

Here you go, slap!

Stay strong, Waynetta, you'll feel soooo pleased with yourself tomorrow if you don't give in to the evil (but yummy) wine. Go stick kettle on instead.

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 20:58

Thanks girls - mint tea sitting firmly in hand...and ignored DH who was holding glass of wine.......

sandyballs · 11/09/2007 21:50

I managed to go without any wine last night quite easily, and also tonight. Mon and tues seems fine, it's usually Wed I struggle with and Thursday, well that's the start of the weekend for me .

I find eating earlier helps reduce the need for wine, for some reason.

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 21:52

Well done Sandy.........now make your aim to get to Friday.......you're halfway there!!!!

CosImThePeoplesFrontofJudea · 11/09/2007 21:53

Well - another AFD day for me!

Not bothered about it now I've got through the evil hours of 'after work'.

But I'm off to Germany (work) for tomorrow and it may be more difficult - being entertained/with clients. But we'll see. At least I'm two days' worth of units less this week!

WaynettaVonSlob · 11/09/2007 21:55

Well done - but are you sure you're not The judean People's Front?

laloop · 11/09/2007 22:12

Well done everyone. Roll on Friday...

cluelessnchaos · 11/09/2007 22:14
