FAB TITLE BY FMF (AND BBB)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Foxy - yes she did. We follow each other's health with something bordering obsessive interest over here. Well some do, I have my fingers in my ears most of the time. You should stay. It's most educational.

BBBee · 13/08/2007 21:29

I remember MrsC eating wheat for the last couple of weeks.

I am off tomorrow and should be packing but instead am on mumsnet getting my knickers in a tist about racist accents.

oh apple, lettuce, cuc, tom, pepper, vegetable soup - hurrah!

BBBee · 13/08/2007 22:46

where is everyone?

are we all missing F&Z too much to talk fruit and vegetables?

TooTicky · 13/08/2007 22:47

Avi, for one extremely peculiar moment, I thought you were listing the advantages of travelling by aeroplane

Possum, they were not just freshly picked peas, they were freshly picked PURPLE PODDED peas [proud gardener emoticon] The flowers are gorgeous too. Purple, of course.

Boco · 13/08/2007 22:54

I had a vegetable trauma this evening. My mum brought round a huge bag of runner beans grown in her garden. They were massive, thick hairy skins, at least a foot long each, didn't look like a food stuff at all, but she was adamant they'd be delicious.

Completely inedible. Was like eating mouthfuls of twine. The girls were gagging and spitting out twigs fgs.

I've got tons of them left - any ideas? I can't see how they could be edible, you could kind of suck some juice out of them, and then discard the woody pulp.

TooTicky · 13/08/2007 22:57

Oh no! Did your mother stay? Did she eat any? They probably are inedible but would make sterling compost. Unless you make broth or stock with them - and sieve it.

TooTicky · 13/08/2007 22:57

Can you just take the beans out?

Boco · 13/08/2007 23:00

No she didn't stay, she ran, she knew, she lied about those vegetables. The beans tasted foul too. Compost it'll have to be. Will probably take decades to rot down.

The beans tasted like that? Oh eugh. My neighbour gives me these huge mad looking marrows over the fence and says 'I thought the children might like some courgette.' Courgette my arse. They frighten us.

I went to this ds2s mate's house today, she made incredible lunch. Was all puff pastry cases with sweet pots and goat cheese and white wine spritzers. Was almost embarassing. I hoovered it all up - inelegant.

Am still meant to be carb free - apart from her pasty whatsits of course. Am off to Spain on Saturday. I can be carb free there can't I? Am dreaming of sardines.

BB - have fun. LOL. I can't wait to hear your thoughts. I am confident that your ds1 is going to be very very happy.

Boco · 13/08/2007 23:10

Have fun BBBee. Lucky you 100x - i really really want to go on holiday. Really really really. I daydream about Greek fishing villages. Might get a couple of days in a tent on the North Norfolk coast with a reluctant dp if i'm lucky. Gah!

TooTicky · 13/08/2007 23:13

Boco, I have just read the "laughing inappropriately" thread. That's why she brought the beans!

ahundredtimes · 13/08/2007 23:19

Come here if you like Boco while we're away. I can't promise you fishing nets and sunshine, but you can admire classical architecture and jump on the trampoline.

Honestly, you can if you like. I quite like the idea of it. I would expect you to leave me clues, about what I don't know, but I think a game could be devised.

ahundredtimes · 13/08/2007 23:23

"Whaaat sooort of a puuurson lives in a howse like this?"

Boco · 13/08/2007 23:28

Really? Wouldn't you be horrified if we all turned up in our car with all our stuff, all excited? I do love Bath - i used to live there when i was small (boring repeating of myself)

My dds would probably do damage - that'd be the clues 'Ah, at some point, the Boco family ate jam on the sofa, and these handprints indicate they also ate jam in the bedroom' etc. I'd have to redecorate before you came home, and it'd be like Paddington, when the family come home and he's in a bucket of whitewash and he's wallpapered over the door. I'm anxious just thinking about it.

Toot you may be onto something - was a long time ago, i thought she was over it, but maybe not.

TooTicky · 13/08/2007 23:33

Ooh, 100x, do you live in Bath? We could meet and discuss mooncups

Boco - I asked DH. Quick speech on my insane optimism in human nature followed by the basic idea that if you're not a nutter than of course you can come and stay here while we're away.

CAT me.

ahundredtimes · 14/08/2007 11:47

Oh and I do have children you know DD currently at kitchen table painting with home-made paint - bicarbonate of soda, cream of tartar, food colouring, olive oil and water. Does that help at all?

3andnomore · 14/08/2007 12:13

Morning all....lol...afternoon of course....well, had so far 1/2 a small watermelon (yes, not galia for a change...so about 4 portions I would think) and 3 peaches and about 2-3 portions worth of raw carrots (with hoummus dip...anyone know how to make that dip yourself...would love a recipe)
Off to work in a mo, for a late shift...no idea tehrefore what I will be eating...as we eat with the Kids and eat what's on the mealplan...
The poor little possum...5 new teeth....torture....
Avi, I am sure the mooncup is healthier etc...still doesn't appeal to me though....I have problems to get a diddly tampon in, lol..oh tmi...I know!
On Exercise....well what with Holidays and all that...I just do it whenever in the morning...put a movie on for the Kids and a Exercise DVD for myself and off we go....when they were younger that would have been impossible. In term times I actually get physically earlier up then I normally need to...which is 5am...but I suppsoe that will not work for everyone...especially if you work, etc...or have a very young child...but anywya, that is how I do it and the only way I get it done, iykwim.
Why are you carb free? Now, don't get me wrong avoiding most carbs is imo a good thing...but did that Atkins diet years ago and well, to achieve any results I was pretty much unable to eat even vegetables...it was dreadful...never mind about me missing my fruit...
BBBee racist accents...I don't follow?
lol TooT....are those peas harder to grow then....sorry I am a complete ingornat about gardening and everything to do with it...
Oh Boco....those Beans sound dreadful...rather like they were grown a bit to long then....shudder...now I love Beans, but not woody ones...
Dior you will get there...and the tip about starting the day with fruit is a good one...because that way you easily can get 3-4 portions in there and then
Well...Lullaby, if you are out there, please let us know if you are o.k.....am gettting a bit worried about you now!
And Franny, bet you are having a lovely time gallivanting...alright for some you know...hope you are happy to hear that of course you are greatly missed

TooTicky · 14/08/2007 12:44

100x, that homemade paint sounds exciting

3 - no, purple podded peas aren't any harder to grow, but they do look quite splendid. Hence my inability to stop talking about them

Have eaten a banana.

MrsCarrot · 14/08/2007 12:49

Go and stay with 100x and get a webcam and perfect your best throught the keyhole slur. What will we see? Shabby chic victorian terrace with great art and half a bottle of red wine on the side, or perfect cornered Bovis home with three vases of different sizes in the bathroom?

Melon, raspberries and strawberries for breakfast, salad with salmon and just waiting for morrocan mixed veg soup to defrorst (sorry lloyd's creeping in) and I have spent £50 in the green grocers today so I reckon I'll eat a lot in the next couple of days, well, that included two rather nice olive wood salad servers in there so £40 worth of fruit and veg.

FruityPossum · 14/08/2007 12:50

TooTicky, do edible peas have flowers with the same heady scent as sweet peas? Are they the same family? (deeply ignorant moi)
Feel very unwell and have eaten nothing today, tearing around and forgot to do so. Must look after self.
Does anyone else find this healthy eating junket a lot more expensive than unhealthy eating? I suppose I should grow my own. Right now I am so tired I can barely get the washing out of the machine and hang it out.
