FAB TITLE BY FMF (AND BBB)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

do you take any supplements?

I have just started taking iron and vit b complex again as have been feeling all premenstural and crappy lately. They do that thing where they turn your wee bright yellow - I always forget and have a freaky toilet moment.

Oh and I take evening primrose or omega 3 & 6.

Sounds like you've had a dreadful time, possum, be kind to yourself. If that diet made you ill then you did your best. Tomatoes are meant to be bad for excema aren't they? I know LO'S flared up when I ate loads of sun dried ones. I'm happy to discuss alternatives anytime.

I must go to bed too though, have also replied Avi, thanks.

join us dior join us!

I don't often make the ten but I try adn aim for it. It is good because it makes me think about it and shop for it a bit more.

I don't post precise details on here - more I had a salad' type stuff. I do feel better since I started paying more attention to my fruit and vegetables.

Up them slowly to avoid too much toilet action.

eeek, BBB might actually be a vapire in disguise? All this fruit and veg is just a cover...
supplements - I take MumOmega as I fear my veggie non-fish eating status might otherwise deprive DS of important fatty acids. Not sure what else I should take.
Mrs C - I absolutely never, not even a smidgen, eat tomatoes, citrus or kiwi at present as they are definite triggers for the eczema. Also vingear (eg in salad dressing) and alcohol are triggers so wonder if there is a yeast issue too (fermented foods make the rash flare). It is all so complex, that;s waht makes me just eat cake in despair, I get to the point I feel EVERYTHING I eat is probably bad for him in some way and i just panic and have a cake pity party for one. I would do anything to make him better. Just not sure anymore what that 'anything'is.

have been trying to eat better lately but without the walk to and from and to and from school I think I must be exercising a lot less.

Am off to Germany tomorrow on my mumsnet prize - Mooncups ahoy!

BB I woke up at 3 last night thinking 'I must tell BB about the water'.
Basically, bottles of STILL water were very hard to come by in the park - and were madly expensive when I did eventually track them down. Buy some bottles in Rust - you can walk to the park if you're in the same hotel as we were - and take with you. Phew.

Mrs C - I hope you get all this sorted out soon. Though I suppose if they do say yes, Coeliac, you'll return to your usual wheat-free diet won't you? But thinking of you.

Dior - welcome. I never make 10/10 if that helps, but I'm allowed to stay.

Possum - I think you've come to the right place.

Avi - dripping down the wrist ? WHAT are the advantages of this darned thing?

100X - I have returned to the wheat free diet but if it's positive for ceoliac I won't be able to eat any gluten, including oats, rye etc, though it's highest in wheat. This will be a major pain in the arse as I live on oats and rye but hopefully it's just wheat I have a problem with.

BBBee - you won a trip to Germany on mnet? Wow, that beats a years worth of fairy or whatever the other prize was. I don't have any festival tips yet, speaking to friend later but I'll get back to you with it.

Possum - that is more restrictive if you are vegi too, I eat a lot of fish salads and so on. Rather than cutting everything out can you drop one thing at a time? It might seem less restrictive if you can have butter on your rye bread or olive oil on your ciabatta if you see what I mean? Then you can observe how he is with one or the other. How old is your LO?

Avi - at blood dripping down your wrist! (I don't squeeze to release suction btw, just pull at an angle until it squelches).

Dior - I often don't make 10 but the possibility of boasting about my intake on here does push me to squeeze in a few extra sometimes.

Possum - the clubfoot thing sounds very traumatic for you and the little possum. Not surprised you haven't had the energy to spend hours in the kitchen. And having to avoid so many foods! I eat vegan btw (except for honey) so if you want any hints or ideas, just say

I seem to have woken up with raggedy nerves today. I was actually shaking this morning just because 2 of the dcs were shouting at each other while I was trying to address an envelope. I am determined not to be one of those people who looks forward to the end of the holidays. Will take them all for a long, long walk this afternoon I think.

Hi All,
well, after not being that great the last few days/week or so...lol...am ready to get serious again
And true to my own word, already had an apple and pear (how apt) a Peach and a whole Pineapple...so roughly on 7 portions already....wohoo
It was my ys Birthday yesterday...he is 3 now...wow...! We had a lovely quiet Birthday....my es had some Kids sleeping over and we had waffles for a late Breakfast with all sorts of yummies, like Icecream and chocolate sauce and stuff...and later we went up to the Inlaws to have some Birthday cake and for them to give them his pressie...!
Franny, have a good time in London Town....and of course you will be missed
Oh BBBee you are calling her filthy...she ain't gonna like that , lol! And am sooo jeallous that you are going to Germany....sigh.....maybe next year....have a brill time though And eat some yummy crusty rolls and cake for me, please
Boco....well, your Kids must be somehting special when they can turn the tide in a non-Kids lover and charm even him ;)
Mrs C...the scab fairy....lol....
lol 100, glad your Kids positively surprised you....must say, mine were right little angels yesterday at the inlaws too...even my quite highstrung 4 1/2 year old ds.....
Avi...must say mooncups do not appeal to me one bit, lol
lol at little possum becoming a bit of a 10/10 freak, too ;) But aww at ime having to go through so much already in his little life....a friends es was born with clubfoot and so was she herself...she was very relieved when her 2. ds did not have it....!
On the cutting out wheat...I think I would find it difficult too to cut it out completely, but I do try to cut out bread most of the time and I find that really helps against bloating, etc....! Pasta also bloats me, so, I try to reduce the amount of pasta on my plate and fill up on sauce, now, iykwim....!
Dior...some days I get my 10 or even more, others I find it difficult to get 5....but it's all about trying to up it...any is better then nothing, I think

hi again...wow, am inpressed with myself today I had a massive salad with my chickenbreast for supper...salad was gem lettuce, peppers, tomotoes and cucumber....and it was loads so, I guess it was 3-4 portions I had there...wohoo....so, if my maths are right I got up to 12 portions today

Did also very well on the exercise front as I did Nell's Ultimate challenge DVD including the extra and I was, for the first time ever, able to do all teh squats....just couldn't get all the Push ups done...but even there I can see improvement...

Cucumber, tomato, red pepper, freshly picked peas, carrot, globe artichoke, grapes, piece of pear. No exercise though - couldn't quite get motivated (me or the dcs).

corn on the cob, melon, peas ( at your fresh peas), oh dear, tomorrow will be a better day.
DS had a peach and even though I wiped his face and hands afterwards, he still smelt deliciously of peach. So maybe if I ate him that would up my total?
I have now realised why he and I were in such a grump last week. In the short space of one week five new teeth broke through.
Mrs C, DS is 10 months and cute as a button

ModeratelyMiffedPossum · 13/08/2007 20:33

oh, and I walked a mile with 24 lb DS in the sling. That must have burnt off some of last week's cake extravaganza? (ok, maybe just a measely 3 slices or so, will go and do 10 minutes of sit ups now...)
