FAB TITLE BY FMF (AND BBB)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

it's been tipping it down all day & ds has cabin fever & is behaving very strangely...having never left him befiore he has had to be shared amongst good friends for a few days & is feeling scared & anxious & taking it out on me ..poor little bobbin
anyone of you lovelies have an ultra healthy yummy carrot cake recipe???
we seem to be overflowing with carrots & ds wants to bake or go swimming &.........i cant face swimming

thanks for all your messages & concern...

MrsCarrot · 14/08/2007 14:46

Gosh, LL you poor thing how dreadful for you.

Only recipe I have includes gallons of oil but I'm sure someone knows a healthy one. Surely you should not be swimming or cooking?

Lullabyloo · 14/08/2007 14:53

oh am plodding on as normal....always do am used to having to.

dont like oil in cakes

ahundredtimes · 14/08/2007 14:53

Oh LL, what a horrible thing to happen. Are you sorted out yet though? Were they just making diagnosis? I mean have there been treatments?

Sounds very scary. There's a carrot cake recipie somewhere, I'll go and have a look.

Wouldn't ds like to snuggle up and watch a dvd maybe?

ahundredtimes · 14/08/2007 15:01

Oh god, it's a link. I'm not good at all

Wish me luck.

here goes,

www.recipezaar.com/8925

Is a vegan recipe with 3/4 cup of oil in it.

Lullabyloo · 14/08/2007 15:19

ds doesn't 'do' dvd's or snuggling.....he's an outdoorsy.active little boy....even his train table, shop, duplo, playmobil dont cut the mustard at the mo
have more tests this week, blood thinning injections everyday & then back to consultant on Friday for desicions on treatment.
thanks for recipe
am freezing & have ginger biscuit craving

MrsCarrot · 14/08/2007 16:00

Hmm, that's tricky then. Can youu devise a game that involves him running rund while you lie on the sofa, he could be the 'doctor' and fetch you things?

If you MUST bake, why don't you do something ginger then? I have a chocolate banana cake in the oven now, god knows what it will turn out like, it's a hotpotch of recipes. Choc one I made the other day was so dry they had it with cream and I sort of sneakily only ate the topping, which, while not being quite as bad as the nose of the brie, is very close.

Lullabyloo · 14/08/2007 16:10

good plan ....have given him huge piece of paper, flour paste,& piles of collage stuff.....will probably keep him occupied for all of 10 mins.....

made v.naughty white chocolate & raspberry muffins last week...they were too divine

wouldn't franny's banana cake recipe work with chocolate chunks substituted for the raisins?

ahundredtimes · 14/08/2007 16:23

Oh glory LL how difficult. Are you going for the injections at your GP.

I've got an idea. You lie on the sofa, you tell ds1 this is a Special Treasure Hunt.

You give him clues to find things to bring to you, each thing has a certain amount of points and then you add it up at the end. (I don't know why, but points have always been important here for some reason.) There may need to be a prize.

Boco · 14/08/2007 16:30

Oh LL you poor thing - that sounds awful. Do they actually know what's wrong, or are they still at the guessing stage? Is the ovarian cyst causing all of it or is that on top? It's awful being ill with kids needing your energy - is there anyone who can help?

We just watched Night at the Museum - and both managed to concentrate all the way through - although dd2 who is 2, fell asleep near the end. It's quite fun.

Must do the neglected jobs i was supposed to be doing while they were occupied though.

LL, it must be an anxious time for you How old is your DS? It's the hardest thing in the world to look after a child when you yourself are under the weather. At least matters are underway and you should know soon what, if any, treatment is needed?
TooTicky - what edible things would you suggest a completely novice gardener have a go at growing? Things that look pretty and taste good
I've had a borlotti bean salad with lots of salad ingredients and am a bit confused as to how one decides it's 1, 2 or 3 portions of f & v on the plate.
Anyway, Mrs C, you made me smile all afternoon, with your kindly comment about mama spider and how unsettling it is to move house when you're pregnant.

TooTicky · 14/08/2007 21:04

Oh LL, so glad to hear from you! Wish things were better for you though.
I have made cake with 2 or 3 mashed bananas, 1 or 2 grated carrots, a couple of tbsps oil, 4 oz wholemeal SR flour and cinnamon. I always play about with amounts and ingredients though.

Possum, we have had great success with carrots, peas and beans this year. Also parsley, coriander and dill. Our broccoli looked lovely but then got devoured by a swarm of hungry caterpillars.

Have had glorious dinner of risotto with onion, courgette, red pepper, chard, parsley and basil. Also garlic and coriander mushrooms, and grated carrot, apple and cucumber salad. And tofu sausages. Dd1 and dd2 yummed it up, ds2 had to be fed and ds1 moaned and groaned. Ah well.

zippitippitoes · 14/08/2007 21:26

oh LL that sounds awful..have you got people to help?

hope they get you sorted as soon as

somewhat trivially I am now sitting wrapped ina towel and dripping over my pillow as I walked the second half of my walk in the rain and am wet as a wet thing..though i actually quite enjoyed it, luckily i was wearing a dark clingy t shirt rather than a light one so embarrassment at walking miles in the rain was not as bad as coiuld have been

have had several bananas today never sure whether repeats count and had carrots with my rice and tomato earlier

FruityPossum · 14/08/2007 22:26

oh, 100X, forgot to say, your optimism in human nature is not as insane as your DH thinks. I met a Russian academic over a cuppa at a conference, emailed about work things, he asked for cheap hotel recommendations in London as was coming over for another conference and wanted to bring wife & 2 kids, am in a million years sure he wasn't fishing to stay with me as he presumed I was a penniless grad student. Anyway, I trusted in my instincts and offered him my Zone 1 flat for the week, I moved in with DP (now DH) for the duration. I knew a Russian academic could never afford the trip he hoped to have. Net result was he and delightful wife and boys have become dear friends and my flat was left sooo clean I felt deeply shamed at what I'd thought was 'clean' when i left it. Also every cupboard in the kitchen was crammed with Russian foodie goodies as a thank you. I left the flat as was, with family heirloom furniture, Edwardian silver dressing table set, beloved books, the works. I simply trusted based on sharp instincts. So, it need not be a mad idea
Lullaybyloo, have just seen your photos on your profile. Wow, your DS is astonishingly lovely. Are you a professional photographer? And he is three!! Aaargh, difficult to keep entertained at the best of times, let alone when you are not well. Maybe a large sandpit at home would be a good investment, if you haven't already got one?

Now lookee here - this thread title - bit of a let down, quite frankly. After all the other first class thread titles you veggie-obsessives have come up with, you then dream up apples and pears.

You build us up, and then you let us down. Harumph.

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 08:39
