In light of the fact that Misdee's Peter may get a new heart tonight, why not sign up as a donor here? It will take two minutes.Remember, next time it might be someone you love who needs one.

I am registered as a donor, but my dh gets VERY wound up when I try to start a conversation about it and basically says he wouldn't allow it. Does anyone know if he would still be able to do that, or if the law has changed (I know there's been some talk of it).

RGPargy · 11/08/2007 13:30

Oh such a shame.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a more suitable heart.

moondog · 11/08/2007 13:31

No offence MTPW,but i just don't get that. What good is it doing rotting in the ground or being incinereated.
Been thinking about this and would gladly give up owt like a shot (if it didn't compromise my own health) alive, never mind dead, which goes without saying.

I have a card and am signed up via DVLA as is Mr Bree, however have registered myself and Mr Bree. Better safe than sorry.

Here is an article on why you should donateMy wonderful uncle.

moondog · 11/08/2007 13:40

Great article Bree.
V. depressing to hear that actually needing a transplant is more likely than actually having a donor card.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 11/08/2007 13:42

He is heading up the opt out campaign in Ireland. I am really proud of him, he has put his heart [sic] and soul into the heart foundation.

We tease him regularly about going to the transplant games. Get a new heart, see the world.

Damnation! Now that I've decided to donate my lily-livered organs, ancient & decrepit as they are by now, no-one wants them anyway! I was in London between 1980-82, sitting my bloody A-levels. Grrr!

moondog · 11/08/2007 14:00

Wot,are you too old?

OP posts:
sauce · 11/08/2007 14:02

I don't know about that, moondog but someone said earlier that if I was living in the UK in the '80s, no-one outside would touch my organs with a barge-pole.

sauce · 11/08/2007 14:03

God, I probably am too old. I'm going to be 45 in October. 45 is far worse than 40, btw.

sauce · 11/08/2007 14:04

Did Peter get his heart? I hope so!

madmumof5 · 11/08/2007 14:13

hi i have just signed up

Piffle · 11/08/2007 14:15

sauce sadly no he didn't, the docs inspected the heart and found it was showing signs of disease and was not suitable for transplant

moondog · 11/08/2007 14:32

Had n't seen that before, so incredibly moving and dignified. Am in tears and hoping it happens for you soon.

Rumpel · 11/08/2007 15:01

Have had a donor card since age 16. Already give blood and just signed up DH and LO to organ register the other day. You only need a couple of teaspoons of blood to save a LO's life. My DH would be very dead if it wasn't for donors so I defo think you should have to 'opt' out rather than 'opt' in.

Hope a big healthy heart comes along soon for Misdee's DH..

ratface · 11/08/2007 18:52

am in tears over that youtube vid.

blob2be · 11/08/2007 19:22
