For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I won't try to start organising it right now, Avi, (unless people want to?) but shall we all assume we will do one in a few months?

Oh well done Franny

I was going to go this evening too but I was feeling too tired after my day out... Amongst various other F & V today, I had carrots, celery and houmous for lunch, which FMV can vouch for

Avi do email pics!

LL I really do hope you feel better soon (and everyone else feeling under the weather atm)

lionheart · 30/07/2007 21:39

Do you know what? I'm starting to log onto mn JUST to check out the titles of these threads. They are truely proof that fruit & veg are Good For The Brain.

3andnomore · 30/07/2007 22:10

Hi again...well, food wise I had a lovely Pastasauce with loads of veggies (Spinach, Tomoatoes, Peppers, Mushrooms, Garlic and Onion...and I think I at least have gotten 4-5 portions alltogether (like I said before, am trying to reduce the amount of pasta I have, so, always have lots and lots of sauce)

Btw, I have got Red Palm and canola oil....anyone know how this rates in the world of oils?

Franny, London would work for me...by train to St pancras it's only an hour, and tis about 15 minutes to the trainstation....
Also think the midriff is most womens problem, and have lerned on the Exercise buddy thread that to burn fat effectively you should be in fatburning mose, i.e. heartrate elevated, for at least 20 minutes...or Interval training...whihc is why a lot of girls do go running (on that thread)...but I was informed that Tae BO and also Interval training as you would find it in Nell McAndrews Workouts is ideal for fatburning.
Toning is obviously also imporant, and both and most others do have good Bellytoning

Hm...am sure on the other thread was something about Boco and BBBee and some message...but can't remember what exactly....but it was in the top bit somewhere....

((((((Lullaby)))))))
they are obviously sure it's not cellulitis then?
Oh and, our lil ones, well, my youngest and your Birthdayboy tomorrow are ratehr similar age...my ys has his 3. Birthday on the 12th of August (but first I will be 37 on the 4th...sheesh...)
As for those injections...tbh, as long as you don't inject into bruises it really doesn't matter that much...iykwim....

lol Lionheart....at your BM mutterings

BBBee....those floods must have been awful
Stomach is often the easiest for subcutane injections as there is bound to be fat there, and therefore it is less painful....doesn't make them any less unpleasant of course

100...Euromouse????????????????????

lol at avis lil one not knowing what those things were...how sweet....

Tatty am so envious about meeting others....

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 22:17

3andnomore, I am feeling rather despondent after being at the gym, because I am facing up to the fact that i just don't like cardio work

I find it dullish and then it gets a bit tiring and I DO NOT like hard work. I don't know what to do about it, really. Today I felt quite energetic at the beginning and so did 10 mins on the cross trainer (10 mins is quite a long time for me to do anything in life tbh ) and then did 5 mins plus another 5 mins on the bike, spaced out with weights and stomach work etc in between. I don't know whether this counts as elevating my heart rate for the whole session or not. If you have to be working continuously for more than 20 mins then it is just not going to happen - I get too bored.

The one thing I did used to enjoy was aerobics classes, but when I was trying to attend the gym 3 times a week I found I could get better results in the same time from a gym session, working as hard as I felt like, and targeting specific stuff, rather than an hour's aerobics which was fun, but maybe not so intense or focused.

I don't really know about interval training, could you tell me a bit about it please?

OP posts:
3andnomore · 30/07/2007 22:23

Oh, am by no means a pro about thsi all...lol....but basically in Interval training you keep your heartrate elevated for more or less the whole time, but you do "different" levels i.e. you do some fast activity and some slwer movements...am not good with explaining...forinstance in NellMcAndrews workout they usually doa workout, whihc contains on marching, running and whatnot on teh spot and also some stretching and some squats.
Thenthe 40 minutes interval traiing, dependng on the workout, will mostly be Jogging in different varieties on the spot and things like that, but could also be some shadowboxing or some marching on the sopt and some squats, etc... and then comes the toning!
In Tae BO you do sort Taekwondo/Boxing Based aerobics and that can be all go, but is certainly NOT boring
I find things like running on the treadmill, cycling in the gy, etc...pretty boring, too....although always loved the rowing....whihc is fabulous all round exercise, so, chose a good one to like!
Another good cardio one is minitrammpoline workouts....there are apparently loads of benefits to that one...

3andnomore · 30/07/2007 22:28

mn exercvise buddie thread...tehre are some knowledgable people about tehre:)
