For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

LL, am so sorry to hear about your leg. Am so glad it's not a DVT. I think a referral sounds like the way forward. In the meantime, would raising it whilst sitting in a chair help? Can you put something mild like aqueous cream on it to help the skin? I find herbal tea (esp peppermint and chamomile) very useful on days when I am feeling a bit pants. Very cleansing. I hope you feel better soon .

Hello Jo, I am new as well. Been here on and off for 2 weeeks.

Regret no f nor V for me today yet as have had a bit of an upset tum. DD1 started at her new nursery this morning (about 15 mins walk away - yay!) but cried all the way through - very hard for her. Old nursery was pants nad very expensive. New nursery is lovely. They all knew her name and said hello to her, even in the rooms which she isn't going to be in, IYSWIM. Tomorrow I have to leave her there for 2 hours. Sheis really a nursery veteran as she has been going since 6 monthw but the change has not gone down well so far. Even with the new Thomas the Tank rucksack for company.

We had roast pork last night so will have it cold for supper, with plenty of salad to go with. I won't get near 10 today but will work towards it in the week.

3andnomore · 30/07/2007 14:50

how about peppers and mushrooms...and thent ehre is garlic which combined with onion might give a 1/2 a portion, lol!

I also often add things like flagellotty beans, or some such things....

lionheart · 30/07/2007 14:56

Lullaby, that's good news, you must be so relieved. Horrid to have to go through this process of elimination when it all takes so long, though.

3ANM It's o.k about the chickens, really, the owners are back this week some time and will bring a reward.

Just so long as the chickens survive the next few days and no one looks too closely at the bunny. .

OliviaMumsnet · 30/07/2007 14:58

Have dire tummy bug so not terribly leguminous today. Happy 10/10/10 all

BBBee · 30/07/2007 15:46

wolfgirl - I think you may ned to check your portion sizes unless it is one hell of a garlicky bol!

hi avi - no one can help me buy a car as I am horrible and stubborn. There is a reflexology thing you can do for little ones where you massage the colon bit of the foot. My skepitcal sister had a complete turnaround when she tried this on her dd. I will look it up for you if you are that way inclined. I hope things right themselves soon.

I have eaten more houmus vegetable wraps. I have boiled up my weird sour yellow plums but am still not sure what to do next.

where's boco?

BBBee · 30/07/2007 16:10

I want to meet people too but got anxious just reading the xmas do thread - yikes!

3andnomore · 30/07/2007 16:16

Oh, I want to meet up with people aswell
Whereabouts are you all then, fellow 10/10ers?
I am in Northamptonshire

Oh and where is the colon reflexology point exactly....would love to try it wiht my ds

BBBee · 30/07/2007 16:28

okay so if you are looking at the feet imainge a "C" going from below ball of foot round to outer edge of foot coming round the heel bit - make sense?

3andnomore · 30/07/2007 17:15

Thank you BBB...pretty sure that dh will definately know....he is really into it....

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 18:23

OK I think we will have to have a Christmas meet of our own, but I think we should organise it nearer the time.

Lovely to see you all and so busy and fruity.

LL I am so glad it is not DVT but sorry you are still none the wiser and still in pain What on earth can it be??? I missed the web chat I guess - will try to read transcript if there is one

Wolfgirl it sounds like you are doing very well! Are you checking the portion sizes as you go along? I think it helps to look at them once in a while and check you are having adequate amounts. How are you finding it? Feeling any different?

I hope you don't mind me asking this of everyone but if possible could we NOT mention maggots on the thread. Greeny is quite badly phobic about them and gets very upset even reading the word I am sorry you had such a nasty experience Wolfgirl - I would have wanted to post and get some sympathy as well

Nice to see you Dolly. Hope your stomach is feeling better now. Your dd's nursery sounds good - I hope she has a fab time tomorrow.

Slubber is cracked wheat the same as bulgar wheat? Sorry for ignorance...if it is we just use it in place of any dish where we would have rice. Very good with a stew to mop up liquid, or with roasted vegetables and perhaps some balsamic vinegar. Or you can add veg such as cooked mushrooms, beans, etc, add some stock and some tinned toms, and place in the oven in a casserole dish and let it all bake through until the liquid is absorbed

Olivia - hellooooo! Hope your stomach is also feeling better. Can we hoover round a bit in here if we are going to have such distinguished guests?

Lionheart poor you and those poor chickens. Will you agree to do it again do you think?

Avi glad ds had success on the toilet. I understand about the juice. I used to give very diluted juice which did encourage him to drink more liquids but I don't blame you for not getting into it.

BBBee was Boco not on holiday? Did I imagine that? Have you had more rain where you are? How are things?

3andnomore I think a lot of people are Suffolk way, I am in Essex. I would suggest maybe a London meet as it is neutral and kind of fair but I know that it is a long way for some people. The other alternative would be Suffolk I think as quite a few people are based there. The fact they both happen to be easy for me to get to is neither here nor there

The midriff thing is just where I put weight on. It has crept up since ds stopped breastfeeding and I have stopped going to the gym so regularly. I hate that look where all your clothes are too small so am keen to reverse this.

apols if have missed anyone

am off to gym and have eaten veg stew with turnip, squash, carrot, kidney beans, mushrooms, tomatoes. Yum.

just been back to gp as pain is really beyond copable....he says he will eat his hat if it's not DVT.......wants a repeat scan asap...>
He has referred me to a cardio vascular surgeon...hopefully he'll know what to do with me

ho hum

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 18:40

Oh Lullaby I am so sorry. You know we are all thinking of you but I wish we could DO something.

OP posts:
lionheart · 30/07/2007 18:48

Hello everyone.

Lullaby, is it possible that a scan could miss it? Did your gp say so? Can they find it some other way?

What do you mean, Ms Franny, "poor chickens"?

Lullabyloo · 30/07/2007 18:51

they should have done a d-dimer blood test first to confirm dvt...then scan
T.W is not the place to live if you want decent medical care

waaaaaaah....well at least i'm about for ds's birthday tomorrow ...baked his cake at 6am

lionheart · 30/07/2007 18:54

This is horrible for you.

How old is Ds tomorrow?

I mean it's not like I'm Bernard Matthews or something, is it?

BBBee · 30/07/2007 19:17

oh LL how awful.

I was at risk for DVT and was on blood thinners for a while - I thought that there was a striaght forward detection test. I hope they sort it out soon.

Are you allowed a glass of red wine?

BBBee · 30/07/2007 19:21

hi F&Z

Finally dry here, but loads of places flooded and causing havoc with buses, parks, PYO etc.

Cant complain because some people have had an awful time.

Boco probably is on holiday - i am way behind the times - but if anyone is in touch poke her from me.

Wolfgirl - hope I didn't seem bitchy about the garlic - actually that happens to me a lot on mumsnet - I post something and then reread it a while later and it seems a bit cutting.

Lullabyloo · 30/07/2007 19:23

ds is 3

3 years???? where did they go?

sadly BBB I havn't managed any alcohol since I became pg with ds...it tastes & smells revolting.
The only thing I can muster any interest in is the occasional sip of granny's stones ginger wine

My but i'm boring
