For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

BBBee can you tell more about the family woodland course please? There might be a forest school locally without you knowing about it? my friend just told me yesterday that her son's nursery is becoming a forest school - sometimes it is hard to find out about things like this.

About the apples, I just try to have a good balance. Local food has got more nutrients in than that which has travelled across countries, so you have to bear that in mind as well.

It was indeed a good day, but I am nuked. (I wasn't that manic in person, was I? My left eye was (and is) driving me absofuckinglutely bonkers .)

Between the bike rides too and from the station, and the 'rowing', and everything else, I think I have done ok for exercise, and F+V today. The children are still not asleep, though so I must run off.

My left eye isn't draining correctly, so cries continually. I got drops, and used them, and they seemed to help, but it's got worse again. I will try the drops again, I guess - I just don't know if the drops are helping, or if it's getting better and worse on it's own.

Drops were from the GP. The problem had been going on for weeks before I went, it is pretty minor, but very annoying over time. The skin around my eyes gets sore from the salt, for one thing.

The drops are antibacterial, on assumption problem is an infection from my (untreated) hayfever. The GP wasn't sure this would help, wasn't sure this was the problem, the next option is having a probe stuck down the draining bit, which doesn't sound very pleasant tbh.

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 21:49

I don't think I upset NQC. Obviously the boat thing may have traumatised her.

I had to have a fourth meal, NQC - did that salad keep you going all evening? I finished off the stuffed vine leaves and the hummus from lunch, so still quite 10 / 10 ish.

I had a banoffee pie, and then a walk, and a bike ride home. I've had two nectarines, I think that will do me.

(No, you didn't make me cry! The boat experience was a bit annoying, but funny really. My eye is really driving me bonkers.)

I've had very good news - the neighbour ate the biscuits! So DS1 was saying 'I don't remember' to politely contradict me, not to try to avoid lying! I owe him a big apology tomorrow!

NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 21:53

(I am debating making some gazpatcho, too. But I don't think I can be bothered, tbh.)

NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 21:57

(Explanation of the biscuit thing, for people who aren't Frances - I gave DS1 a biscuit last night, before bedtime. He saw where the packet was. Later on, I saw that two more biscuits were missing from pack. I hadn't had them, DH hadn't had them, it was either DS1 or babysitting neighbour. DS1 denied it fairly adamantly, sorta. I was confused and annoyed. But it turns out the babysitting neighbour had them, which of course I've told her is fine, and I'm happy to hear it, even though it means a lot of apologies from me to DS1 tomorrow.)

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 22:00

Oh sorry, was the boat thing really annoying? I was just being funny Which bit was annoying? That I didn't want to come in? I thought you wanted to go in the boat

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 22:00

oh but fab news about the biscuits

how on earth did you ask her? and does this mean she had rifled through the cupboards?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 22:04

No no, the boat thing was just inherently annoying, it wasn't your fault. I don't like boats that aren't canoes or kayaks, or at least, I don't like them as much as canoes or kayaks. And the children wouldn't let me power the boat most of the time, so they'd say 'I want to go to X' but then push the paddles somewhat randomly so we couldn't get there, and then some of them would get annoyed we were going the wrong way. It was annoying in a normal doing-things-with-kids way, not in a more worrisome way. (If I had wanted you to go, I would have said as much! It would have been a bit tight with two adults on the boat!)

I just said, oh, did you have some biscuits, I was worried DS1 had taken them. It was fine, we are familial, she can rifle through the cupboards whenever she likes, I've done it in her house. We have keys to each other's houses, and I 'stole' her coffee grinder months ago and haven't given it back.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 22:05

(I made clear I was very happy to hear she'd had them, I had thought DS1 was telling the truth probably, and didn't want to be wrong.)

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 22:06

sorry but LOL at description of three kids in a boat

that'll learn you

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 22:07

I did find it exasperating.

Not as exasperating as DS2's insistence he can go in boats on his own will be, though.

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 22:09

I have been walking around going "an' ME!" to anyone who will listen, this evening

ds didn't get to sleep for fkn AGES btw. Ruddy chocolate sauce

Hello everyone! Haven't read thread for days except to check how LL is doing. Hope the docs get you sorted out LL, it sounds awful not even knowing what it is and being on so much pain. Much sympathy.

Not too bad today F&V wise - raisins, oj, apple, lettuce, avocado, cucumber, tomato, cauli, broccoli, onion, and various nibbles on banana, apricot, nectarine shared with dd. About 8 portions altogether which is probably about the same as all weekend but I can't remember!

Sooooo tired - dd has been up the last few nights a lot and might have chicken pox and she's been getting up about 6am which is starting to catch up with me now! I'm also working the next 2 days which will be a shock to the system. I'm supposed to be a SAHM!! Never mind, Wed job for the summer hols is in a sweet shop so the only fruit I'll be eating is foam bananas, rhubarb and custard, sour apples, giant jelly strawberries etc!! Also means I can't go to my exersise class though
Hope everyone's well.

Staying at MILS tomorrow night so might be able to get on MN for a while and catch up with you all.
Love the glitter names by the way!

NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 22:50

Yes, he likes his 'an ME!'

You should feel quite honoured at him being a bit cuddly with you, he isn't normally like that with anyone, well, only with people who really ignore him.

He was a bit cuddly with a bloke on the train home, but the bloke entirely ignored him. People who speak to DS2 are generally Evil, in his view.

womblingalong · 31/07/2007 22:57

Just crashing thread to say hi F&Z, hope you are ok. Feeling a bit rubbish that I did start on one of the 10/10 threads, and then never came back - never seem to have any time to myself! DS is now 16 weeks, and I am going to try and up my fruit and veg intake, and keep up with these threads a bit better.

Today I have managed apple, lettuce, nectarine & strawberies - not very good. Note to self - must get some veg in tomorrow!

DollyPopsOut · 31/07/2007 23:23

Hello wombling along, my dd is 19 weeks so we are in a very similar position. Sometimes I just cannot think of anything but chocolate, cheese, crisps - everything which is not good for me. I am also new to this thread and have been in and out over the last few weeks.

Today - lots of carrots, salsa, raspberries, blueberries and an apple. Plus toast and hummous, 3 choc cupcakes . No wine though which is good.

Took DD1 out for supper. She had 3 mouthfuls then threw up everywhere. looks like I may have passed my germs from yesterday onto her . She is quite perky in herslef though and had a great day at the new nursery.

NQC and F&Z, your day out sounds lovely. I love rowing on lakes but would rather oggle the attractive attendant if there were a choice . Know what you mean about the Pizza Exp salads. Quite often need an extra something when I get home after one.

Night night all.

FrannyandZooey · 01/08/2007 08:15

Hello wombling! Lovely to see you and don't worry at all about not keeping up with things here. Just drop in whenever you feel like it. I think when your baby is tiny you really need concentrated nutrients so things like dried fruit, nuts, fruitcake, flapjacks, bananas, avocado etc are all really good. I would just concentrate on eating well, and not eating much processed stuff rather than getting hung up about 10 f+v. If you've only got 5 mins to prepare and eat something, you are going to be better off with a peanut butter sandwich than a plate of pretty cut up fruit.

Dolly glad you are still motoring along on the f+v stakes. Hope dd is not sick for long. I am glad we have an understanding on the boat attendant front. HC also spotted him when she visited and was favourably impressed, so we have competition. He is Young

NQC I did mostly ignore him, though. He seemed to like it. It's a ruddy nice change to be around children who prefer to be ignored, but I was very glad to get a few cuddles as well.

PSW at the sweet shop! We will have to cast a 10 / 10 shield of protection around you before you enter . Hope dd is over the chicken pox soon, if that's what she has. Would you be quite glad to get it over with?

I am planning to revive the glitter names when I have too much time on my hands again. Not today. Have work, then nice cafe with friends. Have eaten melon, apple, raisins and pear for breakfast.

OP posts:
DollyPopsOut · 01/08/2007 09:26

PSW, how can you keep your hands out of the sweets? I think me working even one day a week would seriously dent their profits. Love the sour apples though. Haribo make lovely sweets called tangfastics which are all sours. I can eat a whole bag without pausing for breath. Bad luck with DD on the ch pox front. Hope if it is ch pox she is not too miserable with it. I had it at 14 and found baths in bicarb of soda really soothing. Hope she feels better soon.

Franny = how young is young? Nothing like a young man to make me feel a bit geriatric at the moment . I may have to bow out and leave you and HC to it. When not on ML I am a uni lecturer and when I started (9 years ago) I was a bit like a big sister in terms of age. Now I am definitely like a mother. I could actually be their mother IYSWIM. Still, I have the wisdom of the years on my side.

Today - 2 apples, raspberries, cherries. Feel very summery all of a sudden. Hope you all have the sun out and have a nice day ahead of you

zippit · 01/08/2007 09:30

mind if i rejoin you..I have been mostly having a break but I am trying to rehabilitate myself so more veg is good

F&Z I have a phot on my profile now so you can see i'm not with the grey crop lol

FrannyandZooey · 01/08/2007 13:29

Zippi you look really young, have you been going around pretending to be older than you are?

Anyway welcome back and we will try to support you with the MN rehab and the f+v also

Dolly the young men who work in the park are usually doing their A levels however this one has been there for a few years so I am SURE he is at college by now. Perhaps

Sweets are not my thing - I could eat cake and chocolate all day if it was good for me, but stuff like Haribo etc just don't appeal at all

LIONHEART the books turned up! Thank you so much! It was extremely sweet of you to put an extra book in for ds and he is currently colouring penguins I can't wait to read the book and will try to get started tonight.

Have had small portions of celery, cucumber, carrot, beetroot, hummus, orange pepper. Just about to have a pear.
