For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ok, I drifted off again, but have still been (continually) getting my 10/10. (Last week, largely, living on ratatouille and gazpatcho, and running for an hour most days. Oh, and kayaking on Sunday, which was ace - Frances, if when you guys are in London, you want to go kayaking, it is a pound per person, but you have to have a midget with you.)

Ahem.

Yes, today I have had muesli, and then Frances will be feeding me, so I'm sure I'll get lots of F+V. And we'll bike to the station, so that's good. I hope to have all children on my bike, so that we go at a good clip, although I might be carrying DS2's wooden bike in my backpack, just so we're mobile at the other end.

Things here are fine, but the manic thing hasn't really gone away (shhh! don't tell Frances, she has to put up with me today!).

We leave on holiday on Sunday, and I will absolutely be AWOL for the first week, I think (resort in the middle of nowhere ... lots of canoeing, though), and probably mostly AWOL for most of it.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 07:25

Aviatrix, you want Pilates.

Frances, do you want me to bring a Tae Bo DVD with me today? They are very silly, and the bloke seems to think he's doing kick-boxing, but I can see all the ballet/aerobics stuff in there.

BTW, if aerobics is what you enjoy, you should do aerobics. Don't spend time on a static bike or whatever if you don't like it - what's the point in doing exercise you don't like?

NotQuiteCockney · 31/07/2007 07:25

(I could probably even loan you a Tae Bo video, I think we will take at least one with us on holiday - god knows why, we never seem to do them, and I'm hooked on running ATM anyway, but I have rather a lot of them, anyway.)

BBBee · 31/07/2007 08:13

hey - long time no cockney.

Good to se you - was just nipping in - more later but had to say hello to not quite apples and pears.

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 08:53

LOL @ not quite apples and pears

and LOL @ NQC thinking I haven't noticed she is still manic

and yes I think I can rustle up the odd vegetable, but I have been a bit crap about cooking, so it is mostly bought deli type stuff, and there should be some nice homemade bread by the time you get here

Am eating raspberries (going off, boohoo), pear, raisins, redcurrants and melon

Hi All,

Will have wraps later...hmmmmmmm.....
Also did an exercise DVD (Kate's Cardio combo, which is quite good really, and will have your heartrate up for more or less 40 minutes out of the 50 minutes running time)
Avi.....what is wrong with your abdominal muscles? Sorry am just being nosy!
NQC, hi there...the kayaking sounds fun and oh Holiday, how nice OH and you spending your holiday with franny....you will have fun, I would think
Lullaby how are you...oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lullaby's ds 3 today....not a Baby anymore
Hope everybody else is doing well

Back to cleaning in a moment....sigh...I hate cleaning...if I could afford to have a cleaner, I honestly would have one...sigh!

Filchymindedvixen · 31/07/2007 13:32

dashing in quixkly as i am at work to say hello.
I had an unexpectedly delicious M&S salad for lunch with soya beans, tuna, green beans and watercress with a sweet chili dressing. Blooming Gaw-jus! And yoghurt with berries for pud.

I can indeed vouch for Tatties' wholesome lunch yesterday. I waved my blackberries and home-grown potatoe salad in front of her to divert her attention away from the crisps and chocolate I brought. Think I got away with it...

Tatties - so pleased you came yesterday, it was lovely to meet you and I am rather in love with your son and his meltingly dark eyes....
I felt extremely tired afterwards, just from pure stress and adrenaline! BBB - I was on best behaviour, so not much filthniness abounded. I expect that hat is organic, ethically-produced, fake fur, isn't it???.

More hugs for LL {{hugs}}
And big jolly waves for everyone else!

Filchymindedvixen · 31/07/2007 13:33

Up the Apples and Pears woud make a great thread title. As in 'up' the apples and pears - increase? See? Geddit?

3andnomore · 31/07/2007 13:35

Did you all meet in Norfolk? (Or did I misundestand that)?

Filchymindedvixen · 31/07/2007 13:37

3andnomore - no m'dear. Yorkshire. Around 10 of us Yorkshire mums met up yesterday for a picnic. Was nervewracking but nice.

Would love to somehow see us 10/10ers meet up one day...

3andnomore · 31/07/2007 13:40

Oh Yorkshire...no idea why I thought Norfolk then, lol....well...that is probably a bit far....must actually look where exactly Yorkshire is...I mean, I think I kinda know....but...might be completely wrong, lol!

BBBee · 31/07/2007 16:42

ah no you thought norfolk because i am on holiday there next week and might meet up with boco if we coincide.

can't remember what I have eaten but was healthy. Life all running at break neck speed.

Need to sleep more.

3andnomore · 31/07/2007 18:19

that explains the norfolk confusion then

3andnomore · 31/07/2007 19:05

gah...just finished my cleaning...house is pretty spotless...but what a pain in the neck cleaning is..sigh....didn't help that teh Kids were sort of counterproductive...i.e. I put things upstairs back in their room and they bring them back down and stuff like that, lol!

Am absolutely starving now...but my dh and my freind have not arrieved yet, and dh is cooking, lol....Tortilla wraps...yummy
There will be lots of lettuce, tomatoes , peppers and mushrooms aswell as chickenbreast...hmmmmmmmmm........

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 19:07

Right me and NQC had a lovely day and (co-incidentally) lots of f+v. She has just left for the station so I hope she gets back ok with her ice-cream powered children

We had a few salady bits with our lunch and then had an avocado, egg and potato salad at Pizza Express - it was good.

I was also thinking about Lullaby and her ds - happy birthday small Lullaby and hope you have coped with the day ok LL

3andnomore I am not fond of cleaning either. I do like the results when it is done, though - but how does it get so messy again so quickly? [gloom]

I think NQC had a good chunk of exercise today rowing the 3 children in a boat around the lake. I sensibly stayed dryside just in case someone needed to rush for assistance, you understand, and nothing to do with ogling the boating attendant whatsoever.

Oh NQC brought hilarious colouring books but I am being shouted for so more later

OP posts:
BBBee · 31/07/2007 19:26

want to know more about colouring books.

DS really likes braeburn apples because they are so crunchy but can't always get organic ones - but if braeburn he is much more likely to eat them - what to do?

Made big red pepper, cherry tomaot and basil pasta tonight and have got in the habit of taking cucumber, toms and carrot sticks when we go out so am feeling more on top of the whole f&v thing.

Went to this great family woodland course thing - made me think about the forest school - ds would so love that be can't find one near us.

Evening of clearing up the constant tide of 'things' in my house. How dull.

lionheart · 31/07/2007 19:34

Hello. I also wonder how TooT got on with her travelling.

I have the same difficulty avi and a Darcy dvd I have yet to unwrap.

I think it was on one of the other threads, someone said they thought this was very good for it.

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2007 20:05

This was one of the colouring books. It has black and white photos of London streets with graffiti outlines to colour in. Ds is veyr pleased.

Oooh ooh we have PUMPKINS growing

BBBee can you tell more about the family woodland course please? There might be a forest school locally without you knowing about it? my friend just told me yesterday that her son's nursery is becoming a forest school - sometimes it is hard to find out about things like this.

About the apples, I just try to have a good balance. Local food has got more nutrients in than that which has travelled across countries, so you have to bear that in mind as well.
