I'm in! I've got to lose weight and think that might be impossible without giving it up (sob). Instead of weekdays, I'll do Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, Sun . Thursday is our date night and Sunday morning I can sleep in.

auntyquated · 06/09/2004 08:02

i'll join...only drinking on fri and sat

luckymum · 06/09/2004 09:13

I'm trying to be a Fri & Sat girl too. Might be better now the children are back at school and I can't wallow in bed in the mornings .

BUT I've got a half bottle of red left over from last night so I'll have to finish that first.

MummyToSteven · 06/09/2004 09:14

Oh yeah- I'm on a diet so sounds like an easy place to start. think i will go for only drinking on friday or saturday. roll on the diet cokes

CountessDracula · 06/09/2004 09:53

Ahem, may I point out that it is bad for you to binge drink - much better to drink half a bottle of wine 5 nights a week than 3 bottles over 2 nights for eg!

Dh and I have given up for a month (currently half way through). I find it much easier that way, at least you just know you can't have a drink at all, rather than on a tuesday thinking "oh well I'll just have a couple of glasses and I'll have Friday night off, then friday comes and you think sod this, I deserve a glass of wine or two after a hard week etc)

Must say the new alcohol free Becks is brilliant - dh drank 2 bottles the other week at his parents before he even realised it was alcohol free!

Good luck to you all

eemie · 06/09/2004 09:53

Thursday and Saturday for me.

JanH · 06/09/2004 09:57

CD, what about a whole bottle every night (ahem)?

blossomhill · 06/09/2004 09:59

Fio - count me in. I am starting a diet today as it's my 30th bash next month and I've got a lovely black number I've got my eye on.

CountessDracula · 06/09/2004 10:03

Well tbh that's why we have binned it for a month - was creeping up from 1 bottle between us a night with 2 or 3 nights a week off to almost every night, and maybe a nice V&T first... you know the scene.

I do find if I give up for a month every so often that it gets me back on track properly, when I start drinking again I am easily able to start on one or two nights and no binges, then it gradually creeps up over the months and we have to give up for a month again. Esp since having dd, hate that fuzzy morning feeling and the tiredness that comes with always having a bit too much.

We also always have one night off at weekends as otherwise it's not fair on dd. I am not a terrible binger though, occasionally I will really get wankered but I'm not keen on bad hangovers so quite rare these days....

fio2 · 06/09/2004 10:03

jan what about 2 bottles every night

CD, LOL at wankered, what a lovely turn of phrase you have!

ghengis · 06/09/2004 10:08

I'm in - none at all for the next (detoxing) 28 days. Will have killed DH by the weekend!

ernest · 06/09/2004 12:40

i'm in but will need lots of stern talks. feel full of willpower ev ery day, then the second i say goodnight to the kids i cannot help but hit the bottle. it's now every night without fail and i can't say i feel my best!

ernest · 06/09/2004 13:02

it's occured to me - i plan almost every day to go without, then every night I give in.

Does anyone have any good ideas/stratgies for tackling this. At 8 pm tonight I'll need it! Blimey, can hear screams from downstairs - think I need that drink now ...........

motherinferior · 06/09/2004 13:13

I'm on for weekdays, I think. Been getting a bit out of hand the past couple of weeks while DP's been off. And I can't help thinking that it would help shift some of the many spare tyres I keep whingeing about.

CountessDracula · 06/09/2004 13:15

ernest the best way I find is to give up altogether for a period of time (like my month). Then get in lots of good alternatives eg alcohol free lager, nice juices (or make your own) and just force yourself to stick to it for a couple of nights - do something else like watch a film or clean out some cupboards or have long bath and do toenails.

It's just breaking the cycle. You won't miss it after a couple of nights. Well I don't

ernest · 06/09/2004 14:39

thanks cd. will try

fairyfly · 06/09/2004 18:46

fio2 · 06/09/2004 18:47

OP posts:
fairyfly · 06/09/2004 18:49

and who will you send yours to fio?

vict17 · 06/09/2004 18:54

Also a good tip to stop yourself going for the vino is to clean your teeth straight after dinner as toothpaste spoils the taste
