A good way to cut down is buying lower alcohol wines

Try something like this one from oddbins - german and alsatian wines often have lower alcohol content.

luckymum · 08/09/2004 15:27

I promise to be good tonight.....honest.

CountessDracula · 08/09/2004 15:28

Betty will get you if you aren't

luckymum · 08/09/2004 15:44

Someone who obviously knows my drinking habits sent me these today...........

Sometimes when I reflect on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, "It is better to drink this beerand let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
Babe Ruth

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the
morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
Lyndon B. Johnson

An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools.
Ernest Hemingway

Remember "I" before "E", except in Budweiser.
Professor Irwin Corey

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.
H.L. Mencken

....but I will still be good.

ghengis · 08/09/2004 16:30

I have managed 3 nights booze-free and I definitely feel more refreshed in the morning. DH has done the same and is dog-tired the next day! I relaly fancy a few drinks tonight (period!) but will try to resist because I much prefer waking up these days.

JJ · 08/09/2004 16:32

ARGH!

Can I have a reprieve for tonight? My husband has officially accepted the offer for the new job and we are now past The Point of No Return. I bought champagne to celebrate....

Please please can I have some? It's not the usual crap I buy. [sad, pleading face]

ernest · 08/09/2004 18:06

new job exciting jj. Not my job to go giving reprieves, but I say, go one, fill yer boots

JJ · 08/09/2004 18:16

Thanks ernest!

Hope you feel better tomorrow.

BettyFord · 08/09/2004 19:02

On your head be it JJ - you may find you regret it in the morning (in more ways than one ;))

It's all just excuses...

motherinferior · 08/09/2004 19:27

Oh no, celebratory champagne doesn't count. Alas the Inferiority Complex has little to celebrate at the moment.

AND I ate three (or possibly four) little chocolate florentines at a meeting this afternoon so really should not add to calorie overload.

CountessDracula · 08/09/2004 19:46

you don't need a lot MI - dh and I once failed after 11 days of a month long absinence because we had a new washing machine delivered and were v excited as it was our first ever new one of our own. Naturally we had to go to the bar round the corner and have 8 cocktails each and ended up dancing on the grand piano at about 2am....

aloha · 08/09/2004 23:30

I've never lost any weight at all when giving up alcohol. When pg I don't really drink at all, and pile it on!

motherinferior · 09/09/2004 09:01

My body continues to be a temple. Well, actually it's more like an igloo, but it's booze-free.

Big crunch tonight - end of my working week - and then, of course, the weekend...did I mention that on my previous no-booze month I managed fine, then broke up with my then boyfriend the day after resuming booze?

motherinferior · 09/09/2004 09:10

I am however continuing to cook with booze, as long as I boil the actual alcohol off.

JJ · 09/09/2004 09:29

Well, CD you got it in one. Too much last night! But I'll skip tonight and stay off until Saturday or Sunday (in-laws arriving). Can I decide later which day it is?

And if he ever changes jobs again like this, I won't have to worry about booze because my head will have exploded.

We started a 30 day thing a few months ago and failed around day 14. It coincided with the start of my period. How do you deal with that? Are there herby pills you can take to help PMS?

luckymum · 09/09/2004 14:09

I behaved last night - can I have a sticker for my chart please Betty?

Fio - where are you, you can't hide, come out!!!!

Be careful not to scald yourself when hanging over the pan to inhale, MotherInferior.

motherinferior · 09/09/2004 15:47

It's all right as long as I don't swallow.

Blu · 09/09/2004 15:55

Snigger.

fairyfly · 09/09/2004 17:15

A bloke once told me that mi, when i said a certain thing was a sin

I have poured a glass of wine, off on my jollies for the weekend, so starting my relaxing now, lasted 6 days

motherinferior · 09/09/2004 19:32

I am still on wagon. Added red wine to pasta sauce but bubbled off the alcohol.
