For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Apricot, apple. About 25 peppers for lunch (well that's what it felt like) some rocket, oh and some basil.

Am going out tonight. Might go wild, and eat masses of chips.

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 16:55

Dark sticky cake, that's tortourous!

sauerkraut bird flu thingy

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 16:56

Chips! Will you have cheese on them, say you will, and ketchup?

SauerKraut · 04/07/2007 16:56

Just a bit! The kids have been taught both as separate languages.
Masticating juicer sounds jolly rude!

lulumama · 04/07/2007 16:56

quick question

am doing low carb, lots of fruit and veg, usually have around 3 - 5 portions a day, but having 10 a day for couple of days now..

got tummy ache ! is all that fruit and veg sitting in there fermenting?

quite unpleasant..

how long does this last for??

will my gut get used to the extra fruit and veg?

ahundredtimes · 04/07/2007 16:57

Oh god that'd be good wouldn't it? But is fancy joint i think, it'll be all little amounts of fish of a bed of blah. I shall INSIST on ketchup, whatever I have. This will please me enormously.

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 17:03

oh, I wish I was going out for dinner, I love food, especially tiny bits on beds of blah and posh wine. Will you get foamy things you haven't ordered between courses? We got a fois gras (sp?) thing on our honeymoon. Ewww...

Lulumama- I think it's normal to feel like that if you've increased suddenly. Fart it out for a few days and you'll feel better. It probably is fermenting but you will get used to it and you may even crave it! (the fruit that is not the farting)

3andnomore · 04/07/2007 17:04

hm...Sauerkraut might be great against Bird flu...still give it a miss....maybe they could make it in pill form, lol...!

lol at Masticating Juicer sounding rude...it does though, doesn't it...lol...I agree...it's a fab machine though...it can also make Pasta and Nutbutter and yummies like that.

lulumama...must admit in my crazy low carb phase I had to limit my veg and fruit intake so much to barely any, it was a nightmare...so, didn't have a problem like that.

Jason Vale says, in his Book Slim4life (I think) that it is best either to eat fruit with a meal or on it's own on an empty stomach, i.e. in the mornings or hours after a meal, so, that the fruit doesn't lie on top of half fermented food, iykwim...not sure if that Info is of any use to you.

ahundredtimes · 04/07/2007 17:05

Oh no, do you mean those 'palette cleanser' things? They're weird those aren't they, unnerving. Will report back. I love food too, even more since I've started eating more. Also interestingly, since I've stopped living on brie and coffee, I seem to have lost weight. Now WHY would that be Mrs C?

lulumama · 04/07/2007 17:06

okey doke

windy city , here we come ! LOL!

thanks very mucn

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 17:20

yes, I'm not sure what could be cleansing about the free fois gras though. Yuck. Usually it's some rosemary foam or avocado sorbet or something. I never much like them. Do report back with all the 'timbales' and 'crushed' and 'jus' and so on, I love hearing about food!

I guess the less coffee and brie diet means less saturated fat and sugar as you're filling up on healthy food? I don't know really, let me know the secret if you find out, mind you I have lost half a stone since doing this but that could be breastfeeding?

Lulumama - don't worry about it, there is a lot of windy talk on this thread

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 18:14

100 did you want to lose weight? How can you be a cross between Joyce and Audrey and not be thin already?

3andnomore your juicing evangelism is making me a bit, I hope that is ok. Now about this galia melon which you apparently swallowed whole you juiced it, didn't you, own up now...

I am kind of a bit jealous because we did used to juice before ds was born, but there is no way we could afford it now we have organic stuff. My god we used to get through a heck of a lot of fruit, put our current intake to shame. It did have some wild effects though, I certainly agree with you that there are benefits.

Lulu sorry to hear about your bad guts. Dp always suggests light exercise for trapped wind. Perhaps a solitary walk rather than going to the gym, though, eh?

Sauerkraut you are back on fine form again. LOL at "wise if unpunctuated words from Franny". Can that be my MN epitaph?

I don't know what jandies is. Am scared to google.

Filly search for 10 / 10 or even "all welcome" and you should find us each week. Or just lurk looking for bad - I mean INSPIRED vegetable puns and wait until we lurch into view.

Oh, have eaten:

melon, erm, raisins, grapes, nectarine for breakfast

tomato, banana, beetroot, celery for lunch

stir fry of chard, red pepper, carrot, onion, mushroom, and tofu for dinner

bloody gorgeous

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 18:18

Oh 3andnomore, the portion sizes are in the link in the OP. Your ratatouille thing would have to be quite large to have 5 portions of veg in it but perhaps it was.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 18:19

Oh AND

where is pinkspottywellies? Hmmm?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 04/07/2007 18:33

I never said I was a cross between Joyce and Audrey YOU did, though I also really really liked the Joan Bakewell/Anna Ford thing too.

No wasn't really looking to lose weight, just sort of seems to have happened. Is not a bad thing though, am not one of those people who goes on and on about how they MUST put some weight on.

3andnomore · 04/07/2007 18:54

lol Franny...not not juiced at all these past few days, as I can't stomach them right now...had UTI over the weekend, and puked up (sorry tmi) my juice (which is an incredible unpleasant thing, btw...) because the over the counter medication didn't agree with me...so, that put me off a bit, and on Sunday I was so clever to put the next over the counter medicine into a Juice, and even thought I didn't vomit, I was so sick for the rest of the day...put me off a bit more...and am now on AB's and well...shall just give it a rest this week and eat my fruit and veg for now Once I feel better better I will start juicing again...indeed it's the time of the year where I actually should detox again, and that would mean just Juice for a week.
haven't had the ratatouille yet...and might change that to a Omelette, inclduing all thsoe things...but probably less of them than I would have as a ratatouille...lol...got to look properly and completely sober at that link I think....wasn't last night ...ooops...
100...I suppose when you eat more fruit and veg you automatically will cut down on other foods...I mean, there is only that much one can eat....but hmmmm...brie...I love Brie on Digestives...yum....

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 19:05

Sorry, I disappeared. I have no idea what the thread title means, which is off-putting, I'm afraid. [foreign]

I am doing ok, though. Today, had muesli, tomato, spring onion, then tea was red pepper, courgette, onion, garlic. 7 at least, probably more. And will have peas, and maybe watermelon, and maybe gazpatcho, later.

Aviatrix, how did the carrot cake come out?

I am v manic again, there are weird feelings and I am very jumpy and it's just not very good. I will have to learn to lean into it and enjoy it, but it's a bit much atm. [manic]

Right, must put kids down, no DH tonight. Sports day on the other side of London tomorrow, but I've made my quinoa salad for my packed lunch already.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 19:12

Oh, and Frances, did you really miss Cod Day? You must be cut up about that ...

lionheart · 04/07/2007 19:49

Hi everyone,

Have had satsumas, strawberries, kiwi, plums (picked from my very own tree--not that it belongs to me really, I am just the custodian, etc),

bamboo shoots, Chinese mushrooms, onions, beans, beansprouts, water chestnuts, (and an unfortunate mouthful of ginger that I mistook for the aforementioned).

Actually a better balance between fruit and veg here.

lionheart · 04/07/2007 19:49

Actually, ginger doesn't actually count, does it?

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 20:10

Why wouldn't ginger count?

pinkspottywellies · 04/07/2007 20:45

Hello! Sorry I'm late!
Had raisins on my branflakes for breakfast, raspberry and peach muffin (unsure as to the integrity of the fruit though - may have been plastic) and smoothie at starbucks ( globalisation, consumerism etc but it's our local breastfeeding hangout and I was teaching my friend to bf in public!) spinach, cucumber and tomato in my sandwich, banana, dried apricots.

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 21:07

at first glance there, pinkspottywellies, I thought you said you had a banana sandwich

but oh for sultana bran, how nice woould that be? Wheat, unfortunately. May I ask if you actually own any pink spotty wellies?

I am very full of Thai. I think there may even have been some vegetables in there but I am too full to idenify them.

pinkspottywellies · 04/07/2007 21:11

Don't have pink spotty wellies but I'd like some. I have purple sparkly wellies though
No banana sandwich - urgh too squishy. Are you not a wheat eater MrsC?
