For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

nope, no wheat or dairy, though I suspect there may have been some wheat hidden in the thai I've just eaten as my stomach has ballooned!

Wheat always affects my IBS, dairy seems to get through my breastmilk and affect Lo's excema and wheeziness so I avoid both.

I think I need some fun wellies, mine are boring green, though green is my favourite colour.

pinkspottywellies · 04/07/2007 21:24

We've had welly 'fancy dress' New Year parties the last couple of years SIL had high heeled pink ones which she made into peep toed ankle boots for the next year. No good in the rain now though!

When you say no dairy... no chocolate?

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 21:28

No chocolate? Is life worth living? Plenty of choc in the carrot household unfortunately, lots of dairy free around. Just finished a bag of dairy free Whizzers speckled eggs. Some Green and Black's are fine too, Maya gold and the cherry one. Also Booja Booja truffles (which happen to be local) are a fairly tasty replacement.

pinkspottywellies · 04/07/2007 21:47

Life without Cadburys would be very bleak !

So, I have wellies, are you a carrot?

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 21:51

a carrot? No, but I'm rather fond of carrot cake, and do eat a lot of carrots generally. I am trying to grow a few, ate some of the dc's lettuce today!

I'm disappointed you don't have pink spotty wellies, I like to have a picture of posters and you're definitely wearing them

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 21:52

I had a banana sandwich for lunch today. Banana and peanut butter [joy] and [delight]

I have been at the gym and done all sorts of things there. Yay me.

PSW you made it! Hoorah!

Lionheart LOL at custodian

NQC, sorry you are feeling unpleasantly wired again. Can you really enjoy it if you go with the flow? it sounds nerve racking.

3andnomore funnily enough I don't fancy any juice after reading your post either

Boco · 04/07/2007 21:54

I had 2 days in a row of 10 / 10.

Then today has been nutritionally rubbish. I feel rubbish. I've done nothing but mn and do accounts and tax forms - boring forms. I've eaten horrible food and feel vaguely sick.

Bleurgh.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 21:54

I can enjoy it (looks determined). It's like surfing a wave or waterskiing (not that I've done either, but I've tried the latter).

It's certainly easier to enjoy than depression, I think.

The peas were dreadful. I had some watermelon. I am starving, I keep not eating enough maybe? Not losing weight though (which is fine) but am starving all the bloody time.

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 21:55

Oh dear, Boco, can you pick some mnt from the garden for some tea?

MrsCarrot · 04/07/2007 21:55

Mint

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 21:56

Boco just begin again tomorrow. You can purge today out with a good dose of prunes or something tomorrow.

NQC you would be starving if your metabolism is going a bit bonkers. Eat stuff.

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 21:56

Sorry MrsC I keep cross posting with you which makes it look like I am pointedly speaking to everyone else and ignoring you

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 04/07/2007 21:57

NQC, it sounds really similar to the sort of anxiety I suffer from, it sort of comes in bouts. Does it feel as though you have just taken a massive dose of speed and then munched your way through half a ton of coffee beans?

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 21:57

I can't face anything with sugar, though. I'm eating lots of fruit and veg, not a lot else, really.

Might go find something to eat.

God, tomorrow is going to be tiresome, it's a sports day, it's miles away, and it goes on forever.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 21:58

Yes, it's quite a bit like that. I mostly feel it in my jaw, which I am clenching? Or grinning too much? It reminds me of some other (ahem) substance-related experiences, tbh.

I don't think I am anxious per se, though.

Weirdly, I am sleeping ok, even when this is going on.

pinkspottywellies · 04/07/2007 21:59

Oh no, Boco you just reminded me that my Tax Credit forms are still lurking in the spare room.
I need to get some food planted here - haven't got anything at the moment. I had a tomato plant last year and some lettuce that didn't last long! I keep meaning to get some herbs on the windowsill. Might check out the gardening threads for some inspiration.

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 22:00

ooh I hate that jaw thing

that definitely sounds speedy. Thank god you are sleeping.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 22:01

I will have to try to tackle it properly. Running etc. If it keeps up.

It is not helping my childcare skills, but I will have to learn to work around it, it seems this is now a normal mood for me. Makes a change, anyway.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2007 22:02

I've never actually taken speed. I am speedy enough to begin with, I've always found caffeine a bit ... excessive ... tbh.

Greensleeves · 04/07/2007 22:03

I recognise the jaw symptonm too, I used to get terrible headaches because I was clenching my teeth without realising it. I'd be doing something totally normal like sitting on a bus or doing the washing up, and suddenly realise my jaw was clenched shut.

It could be anxiety disorder even if you don't emotionally feel anxious, tension can come out in physical symptoms instead of emotional ones IYSWIM. Worth mentioning to your GP maybe?

It sounds crap, anyway

I am Mrs Virtuous on the leguminous front today, btw - dh came home muttering about goig to the chippy, and I valiantly talked him into having the rest of yesterday's veggie slop for dinner instead

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 22:03

Good god woman DO NOT TAKE SPEED

Greeny can you imagine NQC on speed? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL and [fear]

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 04/07/2007 22:05

Oh, and I recommend brown rice - apparently it has something in it which reinforces the myelin sheaths on the nerves, and is metabolised at the right rate to stabilise weird energy levels - I can't remember all the details but it is supposed to be a magic superfood for tension/nervous-type problems.

Greensleeves · 04/07/2007 22:06

LOL yes, very disturbing idea - but the idea of YOU on speed isn't much better tbh

FrannyandZooey · 04/07/2007 22:08

LOL fair cop

I did used to be rather fond of it at one point but fortunately realised that way madness lies

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 04/07/2007 22:09
