For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

yes, I meant the baby rice on a spoon but carrot would be gentler than fruit wouldn't it, might not be as sick? He has a whole peeled raw carrot to chew but it's longer than his head! I suppose I have to get over the nerves (not easy for anxsty person), don't have a tray though, he's not really sitting up yet. Maybe a highchair/tray is a pre-requisite (sp?) for weaning this way?

He's awake now, better feed him. Thanks for the help.

TooTicky · 08/07/2007 23:12

Dd2 really liked celery to hold and gnaw - before she could actually bite bits off, that is.

Aitch · 08/07/2007 23:19

try not to worry so much, i don't think a high chair is a prerequisite, tbh. just give him a soft piece of carrot tomorrow and see how he goes. dd used to be sick after she gagged sometimes so maybe that's what happened. after 6 months, so not long now, you'll be able to give him pretty much anythign you fancy.
can he sit up a wee bit, though, or not at all? i thought we were all being advised to wait until the're sitting up nowadays?

MrsCarrot · 08/07/2007 23:25

he needs to be supported by his rocky chair thing, or straps, but he is upright. I'll try putting a bowl on his lap tomorrow and see what happens. I'm so much more worried with him and allergies than the others, I wondered if it was too soon but he seems ready. Will try to relax about it, lol, the idea is for this to be less stressful I thought.

MrsCarrot · 08/07/2007 23:27

apologies for clogging thread up with non 10/10 business too, hope I haven't put Aitch off popping in! Must locate the blog

Aitch · 08/07/2007 23:30

does he have allergies already? is there a reason why you're more worried?

Aitch · 08/07/2007 23:31

lol, shit yes, i forgot this wasn't the weaning topic. blog is at www.babyledweaning.com

NotQuiteCockney · 09/07/2007 08:27

Where is Frances? Where is the new thread?

My day has just got really stupid, the mum who was meant to be doing my normal shift today (because I'm doing her shift tomorrow) has a projectile vomiting DS. So he can't go in, so she can't go in. Thankfully I can swap back or give her Wednesday.

But this means my day is just completely insane. Well, this will establish whether being busy is a fix for the mania, anyway.

Tomorrow I am doing a shift (probably) and taking DS1 to school first. Gah.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/07/2007 08:37

And WTF am I going to eat? The food at the co-op is often a big pile of white starch, and I can't eat that. I'm bringing ratatouille, and some strawberries, and some cheese ... oh, I'll take sardines and some bread. I can't snack afterwards, really, as will be in this emotional puppet workshop. Shitey shitey shite.

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2007 08:37

Good lord you are a demanding lot. Will set my alarm next Monday morning so I can get up and start new thread.

here you go

Eat the puppets. That will probably make them emotional.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/07/2007 08:40

You probably want to join the new thread, TM. This one is just for Frances to be rude to me because I am punctual.

righto.

so the other thread has no rudeness? sounds a bit dull to me...

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2007 08:47

You could add some rudeness if you wanted to, I am sure...

I just had to throw away 2 peaches which was destined to make me grumpy

Hi all, not been around much over the weekend etc...been working a few shifts, whihc means shite eating, sadly....well, I try to get as much fruit and veg in as possible anyway...but not easy when you don't really have a choice of meals....I work as relief staff in a residential care setting for children/Teenagers, which means we eat together and eat the same stuff....and sadly the meals fo choice aren't always as healthy as I would like, sigh!
Today I have been out a lot (walking to town and back and back again, lol), and won't really get to 10 f&v...but will do better tomorrow, etc....promise

FrannyandZooey · 10/07/2007 20:50

3andnomore come and join us on the new thread - link is a few posts back

Just keep pegging away at it, it doesn't matter if you don't get 10 every day, as long as you are making changes that you are happy with
