To my shame it's about my 167th attempt to quit fags... anyone out there trying the same who would like to start a support thingie here where we can rant and vent our frustrations and praise each other? I'm starting tomorrow...

i'm so proud of your dh fg, looks like you've finally inspired him. how many yrs has he been smoking? i forgot to mention to you guys...do not use these oils if you are pregnant! they are too strong a potency for pregnancy, so if you secretly are or suspect you are (don't know how good a night you actually had fg ) then just stop using them. glad you're still enjoying them!

fionagib · 22/08/2004 20:12

No, am not preg mm and never intend to be again - I know you've said you'd like one or two more but personally this is my limit - think I would just have to chop off my head if I was up the duff!

dh doing well, keeps stretching his face in a weird way & demanding massages - he's smoked for about 28 years (!) but has had numerous giving up attempts, like me. Just gave him a shoulder rub using the 'depression' oil you sent me, he loved it... is demanding more, keeps taking his T-shirt off in hope, but I have to do a bit of work tonight!

dh is (was?) hard core smoker - 3 in succession at 7.30 a.m. before shower. Chainsmokes while drinking. Prob on 30 a day, just know he'll get ill if he contines & that really scares me.

Am hungover, bit knackered, really craving quite a bit this eve. Had MASSIVE dinner - about half a lamb.

Hope cc's had a fun day on the rides... how are you getting on Fee and Midden???

OP posts:
fionagib · 22/08/2004 20:22

poor poor paula ratcliffe!

am gonna go for a run in her honour tomorrow night (too hungover today!) 3 weeks till 10k race - eek.

fee77 and midden just wanted to add that I've found going out for a v slow steady jog has really helped with the cravings & stress levels.

Hellooooo guys not long back...had a fabulous time, went on nemesis inferno twice, and colossus twice and various others not so extreme once. Dp who wouldnt do anything at A.T suddenly decided he would do them and ended up on the 10 hooped rollercoaster 5 times!!!!!!!!! Certainly made the day better when everyone is willing.
Saw a sign for Croydon, which made me think id better not have any fags and I havent! 2 weeks tommorow girls!
Sounds like you had a fab time FG and super well done to Dh!!!! The non smoking household, wehey!
Tanyas rash is still there, worse but ive gave her some piriton type stuff and shes not acting ill so...what else can i do?
Ill see how she is tommorow and check on her in bed tonight.
You finished all your washing MM...it was lllooovvveeelllyyy coming in to a house that hadnt been trashed today, within 5 mins of us being here though it was wrecked
Dp gonna sit on here so i may be back later if only to read what others have been up to. xx

charliecat · 22/08/2004 20:24

What happened to P.R 3 weeks.................?!? omg!

minkmama · 22/08/2004 21:51

3 weeks fg, you can do it! that's good enough reason to keep you off the sticks. how often are you running now, is it every other day? Paula Radcliffe, I missed it! what happened?! did she just not win or is she injured?

LOL about DH and massages, why is it that men suffer twice as much as women? when my dh is ill with a cold, he puts on his little boy face and pleads for the massage oil i make up for that. have i had a massage recently? HELL NO!!
Well, at least your dh is still going, it's no mean feat (have forgotten how to spell) with the amount he was on. well done him

yes i did do all my washing thank you cc. didn't stop the cravings though. what sort of rash has tanya got? is it raised, itchy, weepy...? let me know, i'll think about what you could do as i am skin disorder mama with ds1 and everything. anyway, how young are you! you don't know charlton heston? PHILLISTINE!!!!

fionagib · 22/08/2004 22:27

I am 14 years older than cc!!!
How old are you mm? You look v fresh faced in your pic.

paula radcliffe just stopped running about 20 mins before end of marathon - she was exhausted, it was something like 100 degrees today. she sat at the side of the road sobbing. I was nearly in tears myself!

I don't run nearly enough, am gonna try to do 4 runs a week before this race in edinburgh.

your day sounds fab cc - know what you mean about coming home to an untrashed house! Ours is foul cos I've been doing a lot of night working (and, erm, mumsnetting...)

I can hear dh munching crisps! wonder if he's got his shirt off again, awaiting his third massage of the day.

Hi all. Been craving a bit today but feel good otherwise. Sad that I should have gone out to see friend play in the festival last night but knew I would be in pub with fags around and didn't feel strong enough.

charliecat · 22/08/2004 22:58

Hi Midden, sorry you missed a trip out...but its very very good of you not to go if you thought youdd give in...maybe ease yourself into it having a lemonade through the day?
You might had even surprised yourself, the smoke in pubs has always been unappealing to me and as a quitting smoker I find it offensive and cant do it..must get outside for air!!!
How are you craving? Itching, shaking, wanting or what strange way? You sound down..you need to tell yourself its a good thing, as it really is, you werent moping about all the health aspects etc when you were smoking, were you?!
Its the nicotine monsters last attempts at keeping you hooked...fight it!
Sorry im either really thick, yes probably but I have no idea who Charlton heston is....im thinking Phillistine...er...pulling no memory strings, help me out!? Im 25 btw.
And Tanyas rash, red face, very, made of lots of little spots, body all over except back spots, that look like shes been pricked by something shes allergic too and the skins reacting, to each and every spot. She had it before and swelled up like a balloon, I took her to docs, they sent us to hospital and they gave her piriton, kept us in for a few hours, making sure it didnt block her airways, the swelling, ...didnt know what it was that time either..musy dash, dp on againxx

midden · 22/08/2004 22:58

which race are you doing in edinburgh fg? I may try the jogging - was finding a wee bit of yoga helped me in the mornings but dh back to work after 3 wks off so no chance now!! Have to say I feel I have had it easy as dh is a non smoker. Must be so hard when your other half is fagging away, even when you are certain you want to give up and find it yucky. I am really annoyed with my dad as he is still smoking despite my mum being really ill due to smoking (severe breathlessness attacks + wheezing but she is not athsmatic) she has smoked for 40 years but is doing so well, why can he not support her?

midden · 22/08/2004 23:00

hi cc crossed posts

midden · 22/08/2004 23:10

cc my craving is a really tight itchy ache (?) in my upper chest - anyone else felt like that? Cannot understand why it is stronger now than it was this time last week.......nicotine is finally leaving my system? Or effects of hypnosis?

Thanks for advice though, I know it is a good thing and the right decision. You are right about smell in pubs - just not nice and I always hated the smell even when I was fooling myself into believing I enjoyed smoking.

fionagib · 22/08/2004 23:27

poor tanya with her rash - does sound like an allergy doesn't it, hope she settles okay tonight...

I think it's called the edinburgh road race midden, it's on sunday 12th sept, sorry don't have a link & have lost info (haven't received race pack yet) - am sure it would come up on google tho if you're interested - I remember on form you had to apply before end of aug, can do it online tho.

I think week 2 is hard midden but from previous attempts am sure it gets easier after that, from week 3 onwards. My poor dh has slumped off to bed feeling v flat, is also a bit peeved cos am staying up late as have work to do... last night of compulsory late night working (for a while at least) - hurrah! Just wanna RELAX instead of clatter-clatter-clatter on keyboard all the time (don't mean to you guys, I mean work stuff!)

OP posts:
fionagib · 22/08/2004 23:35

that's great your mum's given up midden, must be so hard for her after all this time, even though they were obviously doing her no favours...

OP posts:
midden · 22/08/2004 23:41

fg yes she was really not a well lady. Not sure I have stamina for race, slow jog sounds ok but i am a crap runner, just thought it might pass nearby and i could shout out encouraging remarks whilst not having a clue who you are or what you look like.

minkmama · 22/08/2004 23:57

just watched the highlights of the Olympics, so sad about Paula. Isn't it funny how certain things move you? i always find long-distance v.emotional either way. i was also quite teary when seeing paula but also shivery watching everyone else finish, it's such a relief and high to do that final sprint (she says as if she's an experienced runner)!

cc, only joking. charlton heston played Moses in the Ten Commandments and Ben Hur. You'd probably recognise him if you saw him. Don't be ashamed if you don't though because it just means you're a spring chicken

I'm coming on to 30 next april, but my mum was and is a movie monster, so i grew up watching everything. fg - shock of having 2 babies (even though planned) not to be confused with fresh-faced-ness

Well done Midden! how brave to avoid situations like that. not sure i could ahve done it, probably would have just said 'sod it' and ended up puffing i agree that we're lucky to not have smoking partners though, cc and fg are forces to be reckoned with don't you think? my mum and dad smoke, so i know how THAT feels.

I'm a bit stumped about the rash cc. def. sounds like allergy. what did she eat or come into contact with that morning? i've had it a couple of times, not nice, and my skin just erupted into these nasty swollen mounds wherever i scratched! Try Kalomine (is that how it's spelt?) from pharmacy to sooth the itchiness, or boil some chamomile tea and when cooled, pat on skin to calm. have you thought about allergy testing if it's happened before? i was allergic (i think) to a certain orange colouring and had icing where it was used. Terrible result!

do you know, i actually didn't like the smell of tobacco in pubs even when i enjoyed smoking. and when someone's or your own smoke flys into your eye, it stings like hell!!

off to bed now, see you guys tomorrow. WELL DONE ON ANOTHER DAY!!!

minkmama · 22/08/2004 23:58

sorry, crossed!

charliecat · 23/08/2004 10:51

Ahhh Mink, dp was going on about some religious something or other and I was going, no Phillistines a place, where theres been a war or some sort of disaster and its been on the news...and he was going no its not, but it is...isnt it?
I had the opposite, I grew up without a video and when mum couldnt afford the tv licence we lived without tv for a few years as well. I still have only watched about 25 videos/dvds in my whole life, well not including scooby doo and teletubbies!
Tanya says the rash isnt itchy, so we are just leaving her for now, its seems to be cooling on her face, where it was hot, and working its way to be worse on her feet now?!? I have NO IDEA what started it off.
Midden I ge tthat thing in my chest, and it makes you want to have a fag just to get rid of it, doesnt it? Dont know what that is...its not nice though. GRRRRRRRRRRR, I feel asleep last night which is why I wasnt back here saying hello btw
2 weeks today girls, Feels like forever.......but my insides feel 2 weeks recovered, do yours?
Fg your Dh had done really well to get through his first day, round of applause from me...now can you get my dp in on the act???!!!
My nicotine patch was stuck on with parcel tape last night after all the water rides it was peeling off...and this moring i peeled it off and it was folded in half and I thought, well thats got to be mind over matter, so im going to try to have a patch free day...no nicotine, I will stick one on though if a fag urge gets me, think ill be ok though its been 2 hours since I got up.
Rain here, what u lot up 2?xx

fionagib · 23/08/2004 11:07

A quick blast of work as erin's been invited to a friend's house today... am finishing book today - WHAT RELIEF!!! I think poor dh is feeling neglected cos I've been working late so much. I hope he doesn't crack today at work. He finds it quite stressy also also gets blurred vision when he quits (!). One time years ago, we tried quitting together & he thought he was going blind!!

Am feeling pretty good today, the oils are a lifesaver I have to say - do you find that cc? better than your 'off' hand lotion anyway!! Am intregued to know how fee77 lost 6 lbs the week she quit fags!! catch you this eve girls... hope you've had good day... xxx

OP posts:
fionagib · 23/08/2004 11:10

and well done on being patch free cc, let us know how you get on! xx

OP posts:
charliecat · 23/08/2004 12:05

I have LOST my oil, I have searched high and low, yesterday morning it was right above the pc, in reach for me to grab and sniff, asked dp for a massage last night and couldnt find it anywhere, used babyoil with obas oil instead...no comparison, and this morning I have got out the bath and sprayed some dry oil with a faint wiff of something on, again, no comparison.
I cannot get in a flap about this however as I might flip and say right gonna have a fag now, so Im trying not to get tooooo worked up about it. BUT WHERE THE HELL CAN IT HAVE GONE???!!!!
Hope dh survives, the patch does make it a lot easier, but if you get it in your head you want a fag, well we all know what happens!!!!!!!!
Does your book have a name? I finished Babyface last night, I thought it was excellent! Not going to go into a drooling rant again though, as MM might not have got that farxx

fionagib · 23/08/2004 12:35

You've been really nice about the book cc, thank you, it's lovely to get feedback esepcially when some people here come over in the co-op and say, "I read your book...." then they clam up and hurry away!!

Am sure your oils will turn up!! then you can rub 'em on all over & feel all mellow again. I do know what you mean about 'needing' them, gives something to fixate on doesn't it, all that sniffin'! xxx

OP posts:
minkmama · 23/08/2004 12:44

i haven't even started it yet as i'm still on Middlesex. drool all you like by e-mail though as fg def deserves it

Oh no about tanya's rash! what could it be, it's odd that it's moving down to her feet though! and she isn't scatching? how odd. if it's an allergy, isn't it always itcy? maybe it's not an allergy at all. maybe she's just jealous htat mummy got to go on the rides!!!

maybe your oil has fallen down the back of the pc. that's a horrible dusty place where you always find things you've lost! or maybe like Mr jg, Mr cc has hogged it?!!!

how does the patch normally work, does it just slow release over the day? with the lozenges you just ahve one whenever you feel like a smoke, so it's quite an effective substitute i think. i think that these substitutes are 50% mind over matter as that's the hardest habit to kick anyway...

Phillistine is a biblical reference to a bunch of people who for some reason (i forget) were ignorant about something obviously important. when you use it about someone now, it's a joke about how they don't know what you're talking about. Phillistine must have been a place once if people came from there, but it's been a long time since i did my degree, so have not a clue! I think the place you're thinking of cc is Palestine? ALWAYS on the news!

i can't believe you can say 'today i'm finishing my book' - it's amazing fg!! what a relief! what are you up ot after that? do you still do short pieces too? hope the day goes well, treat yourself to a drink after

how are you doing midden and where is Posey? how long is she at her in-laws?

fionagib · 23/08/2004 12:57

no it doesn't have a name yet, still debating!
maybe you could get some kinda oily thing like from that barefoot doctor (?) range at boots (I think it's in boots), or something from their botanics range, to tide you over till the proper oils turn up! the body chop do scented body oils too, not as nice as mm's tho.

Hope you're not getting all tetchy and gnawing a chunk out of your cat shaped hanging basket!!

OP posts:
charliecat · 23/08/2004 12:57

Palestine...thats the one lol!!!!!! Ok so you learn something new everyday...
I dont know if they are meant to be itchy if its an allergy, its quite obviously irritating her skin, but she isnt bothered by it, but then I dont remember as a child being OTT ill as an adult I moan about my back my teeth my ears bla bla bla so maybe its because shes got better things to do than feel ill and itchy?!
Patches, they must be slow release, you start with a 21mg, then a 14mg, then a 7 mg, and then you stop, meant to wean you off it I guess, and it does stop the tears and the tantrums for me anyway.
Kids still in thier jim jams need to get them bathed...very lazy day today.
