For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

I have been waiting to use cod's quote (see title) for when I could not think of anything else. Suggestions for next week always welcome...

I have eaten apple, pear, kiwi, raisins and melon so far

Hope everyone is well, please all sign in and we shall try to rev one another up for the week

A couple of good things happened to us at the weekend - spotted in the market some yellow baby plum tomatoes - £1 for a huge bowlful which we have been eating like sweeties!

And yesterday made a lovely vegan curry for dinner with fresh garlic, ginger and chillies and onions, carrots, mushrooms, peppers and birds eye soya beans using canned coconut milk for the sauce base. And I always make too much so I am having it again today.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 09:33

Ooh that sounds good anorak. I love coconut curries - I use a block of creamed coconut melted into the sauce and add ground almonds and raisins for extra sweetness

I have some in the freezer, I'll get some out for tonight I think

2 hours housework for today's excercise! (ye Gods, I have a floor!)

Fruit and porridge for brekkie, have made spinach and letil soup for lunch, It looks really primevil and swamp like....but I'm sure it will taste yummy . Homegrown spinach in it

Greeny - do you have a polytunnel? How the heck have you got mange toute already?

Dinner will prob be rest of yesterday's chicken with huge salad and baked spuds, home made coleslaw which I am counting as a portion due to high concentration of red and white cabbage and carrot and red onion and raisins in.

anorak · 14/05/2007 11:02

Of course your coleslaw counts as a portion!

Mmmm purple sprouting - yum! Is that you cod? (typing!)

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 11:23

Yay, I think the title lured cod in (it was her description of the 10 / 10 thread)

we all love psb here, you should join us cod

Oh FMF thank you for the reminder, I have half a red cabbage here begging to be made into coleslaw (gorgeous and definitely counts as one of your 10)

spinach and lentil sounds extremely saintly

Does anyone have a good recipe for carrot soup without corriander (dh thinks it tastes like soap)? I figured this was the best place to ask. I made parsnip today which dd adored. I am having a bit of a soup a day week this week I think - all vegetable of course.

Hi FMV how are your boys? My ds has unexpectedly turned all co operative and lovely this spring without any intervention on my part. Long may it last .

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 11:53

Lor I loathe coriander too

I just bung carrots in with other stuff, onions, celery, usually another root veg or squash, and red lentils

very nice

I think that would happen to me too, Frannyandzooey, the sprouts in their packets often go off before I eat them as well!

yesterday was QUITE good, porridge with 'rude health' muesli (quinoi and linseeds) mixed in. Boiled eggs with rye toast, no salad and then roast pork for tea. Loads of veg with it, green beans, swede, savoy with fennel seeds and carrots, BUT, ahem, a whole ton of crackling and gravy and Perry (pear cider)

So far today, pineapple chew bar with banana. Two nectarines and apple mid morning and lunch.. still deciding whether to have oatcakes with ham/mustard and egg/salad or veg soup. Waitrose do a really nice morrocan one which is dairy free (nearly all shop ones have milk in)
and it's lovely.

I quite often put ginger in carrot soup, or beetroot, as although I love coriander I don't like it in carrot soup much.

NappiesGalore · 14/05/2007 12:24

i love coriander leaves in salad. it isa coriander im thinking of..maybe..

francoise, thank you my dear. will yell if theres owt you can do . really is a much brighter day today, so no need to worry

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2007 12:24

LOVE tuna steaks with coriander and lime though..

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 12:59

MrsC that all sounds rather wonderful. Perry LOL! Haven't seen that for a long time

We had avocado sandwiches for lunch with beetroot, carrot, and red pepper. Am off out in the rain to music group on the bike and I am NOT feeling energetic

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 13:03

Helloo. Dd2 is sleeping companionably in my lap and I'm very hungry. Don't want to disturb her though and we're out of one-handed fruit. May have to eat unsuitable foods.

Cappuccino · 14/05/2007 13:34

ooh goody are you all back

you all went quiet for a while there and I lost you

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 13:51

Yes, they had it on Great British Dinners or whatever it's called the other day and DH said he fancied some with the pork. We had loads of pear cider at glastonbury a couple of years ago
but I didn't know it was called perry. It was very strong though

GColdtimer · 14/05/2007 14:28

I had such a rubbish weekend food wise. However, porridge, melon and kiwi for breakfast, homemade veggie soup for lunch and planning on a watercress, tomato, beetroot (I love beetroot), avocado salad with a jacket potato for dinner. Braved the crowds at the supermarket, went for a walk and chased dd round the house on all fours for about 20 mins.

Not that I am feeling smug. I have an awful lot to make up for after a completely appalling weekend. How is your cold Franny?

GColdtimer · 14/05/2007 14:29

And tooticky, I'd forgotten how sweet it is when they sleep on your lap. DD doesn't do that anymore and I do miss it.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2007 17:00

Twofalls I think smugness is justified

Cold is better thanks but I still feel in a real low with regards to energy

must do something, exercise more or whatever
