I have been working myself up slowly to a much needed detox for too long now.

I really am abusing my body by

Drinking at least half a bottle of wine 5 nights a week

Smoking too much and mostly in secret !

Eating crap when the kids are in bed

Not making time for exercise and not swimming which i love because have usually downed a glass of wine with dinner !

Does anybody else want to join me for a full 7 day fag free wine free junk food free lots of water horrible horrible week-at the end of which we will shine from the inside out and feel somewhat marvellous !

Meant to do one of these
after my 'yum'!

MrMariella · 15/05/2007 23:18

Water - enough to challenge the sternest of prostates!
Excercise - 50 mins of biking
Weights - press ups regime.
Portions - 5! 4 fruit, one veg
Sleep - Hmm..bring it!!

Face feels a bit glowy, and muscles warmed and relaxed. Noticed more energy late afternoon. Is it only day 2!

talcycharlesandeddy · 16/05/2007 08:07

Mrmariella
Thats very impressive!
I did 10 press ups yesterday
then had to lay down for a while.

Have a healthy day all

MrMariella · 16/05/2007 08:21

Ah, talcy, there is an easy way to tone up your upper body via press ups - easy if you can do 10 as a start.

eg, tomorrow do 6 sets of 5 (half of your total best) press ups, with a 60 secs. rest interval. Two days later, do 6 sets of 5 press ups, with 55 secs rest interval.

Each couple of days, reduce rest period by 5 secs.

This won't 'bulk' you up, but will add to the ease with which you do anything upper body wise. It is a bit sweaty as well so help in getting rid of those nasty toxins!!

lightningsal · 16/05/2007 08:24

Morning
not half so smug today, up for 2 hours in night with ds.Bet you the resolve will take a nose dive as the energy runs out today. Aaaaaaaaghhhh.
Asparagus and ratatouille yesterday, with soda bread. Darent look at ingredients of bread, is it OK???
Wont mention the 3 choc. mini-bites. It was them, or the kids would get it. Temper frayed!!!
How is everyone managing to ex. around so much in the rain? no let up for days, my washing is still on the line, going for a house record of 6 days. I am watching with a kind of detatched interest to see how long before it is dry. Why not bring it in? Curiosity. The exciting life I lead.
Bye LS
ps. inspired by lentils. will weave some later

kazzia · 16/05/2007 09:43

Crikey - MrM press ups not even on my radar. Mainly do walking but this is often slow due to DD. LS - really sympathise re nighttime waking.

Wholegrain breakfast, brisk walk to school & back (DD in pram). Feeling quite perky now.

Am out to lunch with friend today - she is not a lentil weaver but we are going to caff so hope they wil have something wholesome.

Off to have a couple of pints

hellobello · 16/05/2007 12:27

I tried a press-up the other day, in bed. Thank god for the mattress! Dh laughed at me. Anyway, I am no lentil-weaver - they're just cheap and easy. DD#1 is asleep and I don't know what to do about the dogs. I had planned to take everyone out this morning, but dd#1 was being grumpy and tired. One of those days. I have masses of mince in the fridge and I thought I'd make beefburgers. I so hate chopping things up! Anyway, 3 nights with no alcohol and not many sweeties. Dd#2 is screaching because she's in bed too. Oh I want to go out, rain or shine! Well done, MrM with your exercise regime!

talcycharlesandeddy · 16/05/2007 14:45

Where is the sun?
This would be so much easier with beautiful weather to aid me..

Just want to curl up and eat spangles.

Thanks Mrm (otivator)
Know any good exercises for sausage thighs?

lol at LS leaving washing out.

MrMariella · 16/05/2007 19:01

evening all!

press ups - something to do in private then!! IF, you DO want one exercise, that is the one to do. The regime really is comfortable to do - works even for the most modest number of reps.
Thighs? Well, squats will assist an awful lot, to tone and strengthen legs, but fat loss is an "overall" thing. Peeps do have there own places of storing excess fat - mines are bum and thighs as well - but the days of thinking we can do "spot" weight loss are long gone. More's the shame!

kazzia · 16/05/2007 21:33

Evening all. Lunch was a bit challenging - lots of veg but also rather a lot of ice cream/ meringues/ crisps. Managed to resist too much temptation. Drank sparkling water tho'

Resisted after bath time glass o' chardonnay by spending hour in garden pottering (plus no chardonnay in house).

Most excercise have done is to watch DS swimming. Walked about 3 miles pushing one or other DC in pram - so not too slobish. Have walked about 10000 steps on trips to loo.

H2O pintage = 3

hellobello · 16/05/2007 21:45

Lunch seems such a long time ago that I can't remember what I ate. Prob bics and cheese as usual. I'm knackered. I'm trying to cut down on salt. I could happily lick a salt mine. Dcs don't have salt if I can help it, so perhaps that helps. Oh we did manage a sardine or 2 - I did anyway.

Another booze free night. I don't like the feeling of being drunk at the moment. Just lots of nicotine lozenges to stave off boredom. Night all!

We did get out for a walk, eventually. It's more like a potter or a mad dash when dd#1 goes racing off!

talcycharlesandeddy · 16/05/2007 21:50

I had a jam doughnut

Tell me it will be okay

MrMariella · 16/05/2007 22:01

talcy - the jam donought is fine. >

WE HAVE RUN OUT OF WATER AT WORK. I'm not kidding either! The last bottle was drained today..I looked out the window and changed subject, rather too quickly I fear!!

kazzia · 16/05/2007 22:16

Hosepipe ban here in SE London

MrMariella · 16/05/2007 22:31

News: God has postponed the Next Great Flood. Not enough water left.

talcycharlesandeddy · 17/05/2007 07:57

Good morning all

Come to Norfolk..we're all swimmimng here.

Been raining forever

Although probably have hosepipe ban too

Tell me i don't have sausage thighs

Have a good day

ps. hellobello...have you not smoked all week?

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 09:08

driving in to work today...boooo!! But it means I can bring amounts of emergency water.....as adversed to normal water?

talcy...you seen those gymnasts at competition, and someone has to steady them at the thighs prior to the 'rings' exercise?? Well they are your thighs. Firm and svelte.

LoveAngel · 17/05/2007 10:26

Morning ladies. I'm new to the site and have been browsing around this morning - and this post caught my eye. I desperately need to turn over a new leaf healthwise. I gave up smoking 3 weeks ago (read Allen Carr, it works a treat!), and have no desire to smoke at all...BUT I am compensating by over-eating and caning back the coffee and wine, which isn't good. It seems like I can kick one bad habit but replace it with others...grrr!!!! Anyone about to offer advice and / ior motivation? xxx

talcycharlesandeddy · 17/05/2007 10:33

Morning LoveAngel

Well done on the no smoking

Drink lots of water every time you have a craving

I gave up last november

You are right about replacing one habit with another. I've been rather partial to the rum since quitting the nicotine!

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 16:37

Afternoon Angel - big up you, and talcy on the fags...
the eating is it do with the sugar/levels in your blood that the nicotine had released. Your bod takes some time to re-adapt to releasing it's sugar when needed..so there is a lag, and your bod craves the sugar..hence it's pysiological rather than psychological. In case you didn't already know that.

Poor day today...car-ing and away from usual place of work. A 'snack' was taken......

kazzia · 17/05/2007 18:39

Come on MrM - fess up what type of snack it was ..... Monster Munch? Penguin Biscuit? Little Chef full English breakfast with pancake follow up?

Have been down on the water today as went on day out to lovely park and couldn't face having to keep rushing off to loo. However have done pure veggie day with 4 portions to date (veg that is).

Congrats on giving up smoking LoveAngel et al. I gave up a while ago but did it with nocitone replacement which meant that all cravings were addressed by taking a nicotine pill. Completely went off these when got pg & never looked back. But maybe getting pg is a bit drastic ...

Am just about to face the dreaded bath time which usually results in having to slump in front of TV with glass of white. However am so pleased at non drinking record this week have got some ginger & lemon grass tipple nicely chilling in fridge instead.

What has happened to Fakeblond? Last thing I knew she had a headache and that was it.

hellobello · 17/05/2007 20:00

I know what you mean about the booze as a replacement for fags, talcy I stopped smoking nearly 4 years ago, and I had one fag a few months ago and realised how easy it would be to start again, which is why I'm bashing the nictotine tabs. I eat about 4 or 5 one mg lozenges, and frankly Polos are just as effective.

kazzia · 17/05/2007 20:08

HB - do you really think Polos are as effective? I had a couple of nicotine tabs a while back after not smoking for ages and got a real buzz from them. A friend gave up smoking but then took about 2 years to give up on the tabs.

Not sure which is worse though - nicotine tabs or booze.

Anyway have survived bath time trauma so am the downhill run to bed. Dinner = grilled chicken & veg. May do a spot of gardening therapy.

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:22

Maybe 'snack' IS a euphemism....it was someone's birthday...and they brought in a home-made Victoria sponge....I work with a bunch of pretty young things who look at such things with an urge and then say "oh, I shouln't.."..and don't...well, it would have been a shame for the last two peices to go off, now wouldn't it????

Still drinking for Scotland, but nooo exercise today...but a veg bolougnaise type thing for dinner....5 portions again! 3 veg 2 fruit....bit of a mixed day.
