For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 09:44

Go on then, how short are you?

Tatties · 18/04/2007 09:47

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 09:48

Ha! I win! 5' and nearly half an inch.

anorak · 18/04/2007 10:27

Hello all

Have had a week away in Easter holiday, a chips with everything binge (largely because not much else was available). Have come home to an empty fridge, just did big internet shop which is arriving tomorrow night, loadsa fruit and veg, can't wait, I need this so much...

Your body screams at you sometimes, doesn't it?

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 10:51

There's always a smart one, isn't there. And it's so often a fillyjonk.

Overrun · 18/04/2007 10:56

I know exactly what you mean about your body screaming at you for vitamins and nutrients Anorak. I remember one year coming back from Glastonbury, and despite being knackered on getting home, I insisted on going to the shop and stocking up on fruit goodness. I just had to
Dammit, I forgot to my dinner portions last night, but did well, yes sir indeedy
Today, I am nursing a slightly upset stomach and ds1 has it BAD, so clearing up the mess is keeping me pretty busy. Esp as I am supposed to be potty training the dts at the same time. I have just put the last sofa cover in the washing machine
I have had a banana, and some grapes, and some pomegranite juice (3)

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 11:01

I was once exhausted and dehydrated and cured myself almost instantly with 4 nectarines.

StrangeTown · 18/04/2007 11:16

Hello - yes, yes dingdong The Jam - I find them excellent for most of my musical needs. All purpose, like Maris Piper

Have not felt able to join in fruity thread as I have been consuming very little of it. Just pears and bananas and satsumas really. I have gone off everything even my fav avocados and am sick from 2-9pm. Bah. I am eating crap, but just can face anything - got bloody indigestion and wind all day too . It's very complicated growing a new person isn't it?

sorry to hear that you are feeling crappy Starnge town, it is hard work that pregnancy business isn't it
I have managed to add some cauliflower and courgette (part of my pasta dish at lunch) and another apple to my grand total of (6) I am maturing some avacadoes on my kitchen windowstill Strange town, bad luck about going off them

filthymindedvixen · 18/04/2007 17:32

Strangetown - congrats - I also didn't know you were pg...

even Dh who fears frilly food craves fres fruit and salad when we do festivals

today, after fruity porridge, have eaten 2 apples, grapes and a banana, carrot and hummous and apple salad sarnie, and a lovely lentil and veg-heavy lasagne is simmeringaway. Would kill for a glass of wine tonight but I';m trying to be wine-free during the week.

lionheart · 18/04/2007 18:08

Grapes, cuc, masses of cauli, peas, smoothie, orange juice. Six so far.

Bit insensitive to mention the figure 5' 10 IMHO, Franster.

Next you'll be telling us how willowy you are, or even worse, dropping some Amazonian reference into the thread.

Hello Sibble.

Weren't The Jam from Woking originally? (I prefer The Style Council too, but that was a scarily long time ago).

lionheart · 18/04/2007 18:09

Does wine not count FMV?

Idreamofdaleks · 18/04/2007 18:16

tra la!

today I ate strawberries, blueberries, watercress, rocket, tomatoes...oops, so I am still 5 short

I also took dd to the botanical gardens after school and sketched plants with her...in public, even though my drawing is ultra rubbish, I didn't feel embarassed about it and dd made some very encouraging noises. I think drawing is good for the soul, even if you are rubbish at it. And I think I improved a bit, even in half an hour

happy days!

lionheart · 18/04/2007 18:22

Drawing is jolly good for the soul, I agree.
