For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

I do like the style council too but find the Jam is better for the gym, faster beat and all that...having said that I have all the paul weller collection on my ipod which I find covers all eventualities

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 19:47

Ruddy hell you all get chatty and busy when I am out all day don't you?

Well I think you are all bloody brilliant; the boot camp obviously worked so I think we may have it every month.

I have been prancing around most of the day in the name of work, then went for an hour on the bike again, but my god I was tired today. Plus I swallowed about 6 flies, not counting the ones that went up my nose.

For lunch I had some bizarre crunchy lentil and quinoa salad from M+S which was both garlicky and spicy - obviously divine retribution for my comments earlier. Oh and a big beetroot salad - prob 4 portions in total for lunch.

Then pasta for dinner with shedloads of asparagus - another 2 portions. Am still starving so off to scavenge for fruit.

And pardon me, I had not realised that being tall was such a contentious issue I will try to sound shorter in future

hi all, morning for me, have just had breakfast, already managed kiwi fruit (has to be done when you live here ), strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and nectarine.

lol, circuit training, I had a PT at the beginning of the year after my first session of circuit I couldn't walk for 3 days, we went to the zoo the following day and I couldn't sit down fr lunch 'cos I knew I wouldn't be able to get up afterwards. I have to mention I go to the gym x3 weekly so thought I was fit, obviously not [hmmm].

I am really proud of dh btw, me and the boys love the fruit veg thing, he struggles but has jumped on the band wagon, lost 3.5 stone since Jan and also joined the gym. It's like living with a new man.....

BTW I'm 5'4 - my sister is 5'11 and brother 6'1 life sucks sometimes

Tatties · 18/04/2007 20:05

Oh James is cool

"My bed is on fire..." and all that

I have had apple juice, grapes, hummus, raw carrot, some tropical dried fruit (wtf is pluot?), and I had a go at sushi for tea with more carrot, avocado and asparagus. Would the seaweed wrap count too? Thought I'd had more fruit though, I will probably cram in a clementine and kiwi before bed.

Sibble I also carry my 2yo round a lot - it is bloody workout isn't it?!

Fillyjonk · 18/04/2007 20:08

my 21 mo will not walk and will not go in pushchair (see thread re dog "bite"). she has also decided that the sling is, well, not really for her

I have no waist to speak of and refuse to wear a naffosa hip seat thingy so am naffed really.

Fillyjonk · 18/04/2007 20:09

i like the ring the bells song and the sit down song (we sung it at demos in my yoof) and the fred astaire song.

they do a nice boppy song rather well. their alow songs i like less.

sibble · 18/04/2007 20:19

i'm about to sell my pushchair on trade me (ebay equivalent) because he hasn't sat in it for so long. wants to walk, then his little legs give out and has to be carried. we took him on a 3km walk along the beach and sand dunes at the weekend. ended up giving him piggy back all the way back. keep telling myself it's like strength training

btw - come to NZ, there are a huge gaggle of us here now, check out the kiwi sites

Fillyjonk · 18/04/2007 20:24

ah ha

you need an ergo

sarz · 18/04/2007 20:40

Not had the best day, i did have a HUGE salad for dinner : 2 types of lettuce, yellow, red and green peppers, sweetcorn, celery, apples and raisons, and this morning i had raisons, apples, blood oranges, grapes and mango. I know this doesnt sound bad, but it was all in 2 meals (breakfast and dinner) nothing was snacks or anything. no exercise, but i hvae been doing too much lately and my knees are aching. back in the gym 2mrw though!

Not so good today. Did make it to the gym, but missed breakfast again, which put me behind. Have managed, banana, hoummos, apple juice, stir fry (at least 3 portions there), so only 6 so far. Strangetown, I found that when I ate the morning sickness got better, oddly. Do you find that? How many weeks are you now?

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 21:44

Filly, have you tried one of those tricycles with a parent handle? They're a bit of a pain in the bum but can be v. useful in Certain Situations. Actually, ours is a pain in the back as it has the wrong handle and I have to stoop to push it.

Fillyjonk · 18/04/2007 21:47

yes i know i should

or i might just get hardcore with her and the pushchair

I dunno what else to do really, i have a 4 mile round trip to ds's nursery twice daily, and, as of tommorrow, no car

and my arms hurt

harpsichordcarrier · 18/04/2007 21:49

OK so far:
apple
strawberries
brussel sprouts
leeks
spinach
carrots
peas
asparagus
er, chicken and dumplings but with onions in the gravy

don't suppose I get any credit for cheese and tomato pizza
right must go and raid fruit bowl
God I am getting through a lot of fruit

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 21:50

Will she sit on your shoulders? Ds2 did this beautifully and it was comfortable for us both.

SauerKraut · 18/04/2007 21:52

Today I have had 2 bananas, an apple, a microscopic bit of tomato sauce on my pasta, raisins........oh dear. I do believe that's it. I shall do better tomorrow. Can we have the whip again?

Greensleeves · 18/04/2007 21:53

so far:

apple
lovely cloudy apple juice
banana
2 tangerines
leeks
cucumber
salad leaves
onion
tomatoes
red pepper
swede
winter black radish
chard
carrot

and I am still hungry

Fillyjonk · 18/04/2007 21:56

she will

but after the first mile it gets wearing

oh and she has a thing about boots (she will only wear boots). she has to have them on oh yes. But then she needs to take them off to check that her feet are still there. And on. And off.

oh and I have to lug ds's bike with me

oh I do NOT want to get firm , esp as she can undo the sodding pushchair straps anyway.

TooTicky · 18/04/2007 22:01

Will she push a toy buggy/walk a dog on wheels? Yeah, I know, more stuff to carry when she gets bored.
(Your parcel! It will come, I've almost got around to packing it...)

Fillyjonk · 18/04/2007 22:05

oooh thanks, send me a bill!

no she won't really do that. unless possibly if copying ds, but thats not much use cos he is, by defination, not there
