For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

Blimey

we are legion

Sibble well done dh! My dp is fab cyclist and runner and eats loads of fruit but still manages to be lardy type, not sure how...

Tatties we must look up seaweed. I like sushi too, and it is one of ds's favourites. We got dp a kit for Christmas so he makes it sometimes What was the pluot like?

Sarz it doesn't matter when you eat the 10 portions, I don't think? Just eat them when you like. Or am I missing something? Sorry about your knees.

Aviatrix I am at your melon

Cazee how was the gym? How can you miss breakfast??

HC that you are still on the thread. Just think, when you come to stay we can sit and eat fruit and hold hands and stuff

SauerKraut I have a whip specially saved for you. It may have to come out tomorrow.

Greeny you forgot to eat CARBS and FAT and PROTEIN again I bet. and you forgot to email me

Aviatrix I think you need to get a bike with a trailer or a child seat...

which brings us back to Filly - Filly did the magnet come up with the goods yet or do we all need to shout for PeachyClair again?

Oh and at TooTicky

Oh dear, really? I am so ignorant I thought the place that you lived was very rural and idyllic

Although, Sarz, I must say from experience that if you try to have all your fruit at breakfast time, it presents itself at the other end far too soon - one is left with the feeling that one may as well not have bothered!
Ooooh, Franny, I am already mulling over the contents of my veggie rack and deciding in what form it shall all appear upon my plate. The mere threat is enough...

Greensleeves · 18/04/2007 23:00

Oh, BLOODY HELL Franny, if I mention carbs and protein you take the bloody piss!!!

TODAY I HAVE EATEN: (apart from the aforementioned vegetation)

2 large cod fillets
a portion of prawns
a fair portion of wholemeal couscous
a boiled egg
a wholemeal pitta
some potato (in potato and swede mash)
some grated manchego cheese

SO SWIVEL ON IT, TWISTY

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 23:01

does anyone on here get your goat quite as effectively as me, Greeny?

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 18/04/2007 23:04

oh, FINE.
so it's OK to talk about cocopops and flipping playstations but a piece of haddock offends you?

Greensleeves · 18/04/2007 23:04
FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 23:05

Yes. Instead of haddock I would like you to say "mung bean".

harpsichordcarrier · 18/04/2007 23:05

dd1 requested kippers for breakfast this morning
I blame Meg and Mog.
it'll be "kedgeree and a lightly poached egg, and do you have any rye bread" next

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 23:05

Jeez, my footless tights have just been masticated

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 18/04/2007 23:05

well I can say it, I just can't eat it.
I thought I might go in Holland BArrett tomorrow. you know, for the craic.

harpsichordcarrier · 18/04/2007 23:07

by the way the trick to this 10 portions stuff is to eat a ludicrous amount of different veg for dinner.
with butter and some black pepper.

dh looked very alarmed at his plate, with looked like some greengrocer's wet dream.

Greensleeves · 18/04/2007 23:07
