My little boy 13 mths has been really poorrly since friday following vaccinations on thursday ( hib and ...?)

He started with whinging and loss of appetite followed by vomitting for a day and now terrible diarroeah and a low temp 34.5 and BLUE lips!

he appears very poorly - sleeps till 1pm every day and then dozy two hours later - but the cold ams and legs and blue lips do concern me...

Just go to A&E. You will never forgive yourself if you don't go and something serious happens. Please just go.

dandasmummy · 28/03/2007 20:22

Debz72 is right. GP's can make mistakes. (A GP once told my mum to go home and stop worrying about her baby boy, and gave her valium to take...Luckily she didn't believe him. It turned out my brother had congenital heart disease.) Blue lips and mottled skin aren't normal, and it's gone on far too long already. You'll never forgive yourself if you don't take him and it is something serious. Everyone on this thread is saying the same thing. You wanted advice, you've got it, now take it!

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 28/03/2007 20:23

Go on - call me - I will talk you into A&E - and if I am wrong you can ... erm... erm... throw water over me on saturday [pleading emoticon]

Get him seen - really - honest - do

Debz72 · 28/03/2007 20:24

Yes, we are saying that the GP could be wrong, NHS direct told you to see your GP, probably on the thought that he would take this seriously.
We are saying anyone can be wrong and OFTEN GP's are......Surely you must have had some experience of this in the past???!!!

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:25

Jill i thought you were going tomorrow???

Wallace · 28/03/2007 20:26

How is he now?

Am I alone in reassurring you that blue lips etc is not necessarily bad?

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:26

I think so Wallace but do you gather that i am with you!!!!

OP posts:
IntergalEGGticWalrus · 28/03/2007 20:27

PLEASE PLEASE go to A&E. I know it can be a total pita there, but given the age and symptoms etc, I bet you'll get seen quickly. Then you can come home and rest easy

Debz72 · 28/03/2007 20:27

Even the hospital can be wrong, so wait there until you get the complete and full answer to waht is causing this....just take him please....

dandasmummy · 28/03/2007 20:27

And hopefully when you get to A&E, they'll tell you it's nothing to worry about and send you home. And then you can be SO SMUG when you tell us how wrong we were. What have you got to lose?!!

Wallace · 28/03/2007 20:28

yes

But, I will ask the timeless GP question:

"How is he in himself?"

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:29

sad but ok!!
When i dance round him to the Killers he will offer up a weak smile!!!

He will be fine - give it afew days!

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 28/03/2007 20:30

Erm - sleeping til 1pm - part of me wants to be , but...

Debz72 · 28/03/2007 20:31

OK, the blue lips thing, even if you ignored that (stupid to ignore, but if you all turn blue at the drop of a hat then it might just be a genetic thing....), then take him to A and E because he is very sleepy with a low temp and "obviously very poorly".....FOr a week.....following a vaccination.....do I really need to go on and on and on...

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:32

you are all saying that the medical profession ( 2 x gp's and a nurse ) are all wrong?

OP posts:
NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 28/03/2007 20:32

You know Otter, that I might just call you

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:33

why would A&E ( who is an on call gp afterall) be any different?

OP posts:
Debz72 · 28/03/2007 20:33

YOU HAVE GIVEN IT A FEW DAYS.........NEARLY A WEEK.....

emkana · 28/03/2007 20:34

Otter, frankly I am shocked that you would not err on the side of caution in this.

Why did you ask for advice on here?

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:37

last night..

I did take mumsnetters advice and ring nhs direct...

i did take nhs advice and go to gp today....

what is shocking...?

whose advice did i ignore....?

OP posts:
popsycal · 28/03/2007 20:37

please get a second opinion

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 28/03/2007 20:38

a&e deal with sick babies more often / in deapth and have specialists to call on

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 20:39

TBH i have hassled the NHS enough
They are overstretched...
I went to them for advice... I took their advice....am i supposed to continue to persue this until my child is stuck on a drip in a and e?

no i have brought him home with calpol and brufen and as much water as i can get in him as advised

why take him if i am then going to ignore them?

OP posts:
JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 20:39

Gps are general practioners not hospital specialists. Take him to a&e, it's not worth the risk. Clearly you don't want to but please think about what you are doing and what you are risking.
