Any one had experience of this...?
My little boy 13 mths has been really poorrly since friday following vaccinations on thursday ( hib and ...?)

He started with whinging and loss of appetite followed by vomitting for a day and now terrible diarroeah and a low temp 34.5 and BLUE lips!

he appears very poorly - sleeps till 1pm every day and then dozy two hours later - but the cold ams and legs and blue lips do concern me...

any docs or nurses??

just bumping this up, hoping to hear eveything is fine.

Wallace · 28/03/2007 12:49

Hope he is ok.

Just want to point out that my dd used to turn blue a lot (hands, arms, feet, legs, lips and cheeks), and it was nothing to worry about. She did have a heart problem but the blueness was completely unrelated and "just one of those things"

This is more worrying though because of the sleepyness

3littlefrogs · 28/03/2007 13:32

The combination of low temp, blue lips, mottled skin and sleepiness is the really worrying thing. Those things individually -i.e.-only one symptom would be less worrying - although blue lips and or low temp should always be taken seriously unless the child has a known condition and parents are aware of when to take action. I do hope he is ok - I am at work now and keep wondering how he is.

lulumama · 28/03/2007 13:34

me too , hope babyotter is fine and dandy this morning

JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 17:54

Bump, hope lo is ok. Please let us know.

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 18:30

Thankyounal for your concern - he is still very poorly

Tok him to gp this morning and they said he is 'obviously very poorly' ( he is kind of limp and quiet) ( he has lost a lb in weight too)

They said not to worry abou blue lips/cold extremeties/mottled skin and theat when some people are very poorly they just 'shut down' in some respects

he is drinking water and they said do not feed him ...i have to just wait - he sleeps till midday every day

Thankyou all for thnking of him it is too kind i will give him a gentlle kiss from you all and he will nuzzle in with appreciation!!

which jabs was it? I would guess MMR as he's 13 months. When he starts to eat again do try and get some probiotics into him- the powdered type you mix with food is the best- you can get it from health food shops. You can slo get (from nutricentre I think) saccromyces- which can be worth giving (tiny dose though, 1/16th teaspoon)- will also help gut problems.

if it was MMR I would also try and get some retinol into him (vitamin A). Most vitamin A comes in the form of carotenes, but if he's having a mini measles reaction he'll need retinol. It's in cod liver oil, (as well as liver as in liver we eat etc). You don't want to give it for too long (vitamin A can be toxic in high doses) but fine to give while he eneds extra - might be difficult to get him to take it as it tastes so nasty though.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

lulumama · 28/03/2007 18:45

big hugs and gentle snuggles for babyotter..wishing him very well ASAP ! x

dinny · 28/03/2007 18:45

it was Hib, wasn't it?

doesn't sound right to me - esp GP sending him home saying he is 'obviously very poorly' - poorly with what, exactly?

I'd take him to be seen by a paediatrician at A&E asap.

dinny · 28/03/2007 18:45

and report it as a vaccine reaction

Gess · 28/03/2007 18:47

God idea dinny- you can report it yourself here although ask your GP to as well. Your red book should have the batch numbers ec written down.

3littlefrogs · 28/03/2007 19:06

Sorry - but I am still worried about this. If he is still the same I would take him to A&E.

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 19:07

gess yes i think i may do that

My DD1 had a high temp a while ago when we were in France and had mottled skin. The GP came out within 15 mins, took one look at her arms and sent us stright to hospital. It turned out to be just bronchitis, but he said you cannot take a chance with mottled skin. Please take him to hospital!

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 28/03/2007 19:11

Oh - Otter - I saw this earlier today but presumed that all was completely better as you hadn't been back to this thread. Hope you are both OK.
I would get someone other than GP to see him if I were you.
Does he sleep that late otherwise?
It just doesn't seem right at all to me

Live plain yogurt can also help, my ds 16 months had his MMR and some other booster two weeks ago, was feverish for about 3 day at exactly 8 days after, fortunately no runs etc. He didn't eat for 3 days would only drink his milk ( I offered formula since it contains most of the vit and minerals needed).

Hope he does better soon, but always trust your gut, to hell with proper etiquette about bother doctors, that is what your National insurance is for.

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 19:33

Thanyou all for your input i truly appreciate it

As a fifth time mum i just spent the whole time in the consult room aplologising...he did do a thorough check and was kind to me said 'far rather see a poorly baby than me not take him'
siad maybe a virus combined with a hib and pneumococcal.....baby squitting badly..

glassslipper · 28/03/2007 19:34

hi greenandblack. sorry he is still not well.

what do your instincts tell you? Do you think he needs to be seen again? if so then go to a&e, tell them he saw a gp but has not improved at all and quite frankly you are very concerned. they WILL take you seriously and will in no way make you feel like you are wasting their time.

i hope the little mite feels better soon.

glassslipper · 28/03/2007 19:35

is he taking any fluids in? if he has the runs he may get dehydrated.

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 19:36

thanks GS ! luckily he loves water and always drinks tonnes so he is hydrated enough although skin a little scaly feeling

i just want him well again - he looks soo sad!

OP posts:
glassslipper · 28/03/2007 19:41

also, if it helps i always found rice cakes a good food for getting them back to eating. especially the apple or orange organix ones. and the rice helps with the runs a bit too.

i know exactly what you mean. it breaks your heart when they are ill.

so, what are you going to do? Give it some more time and see how he is tomorrow ? or take him to see someone else?

GreenandBlackOtter · 28/03/2007 19:42

no see how he is tomorrow !

Glass slipper i keep saying exactly that ' it breaks my heart'

he is so quiet and ill!

I find what the GP said really strange... I really don't think you needed to apologize for anything, I think your baby needs proper attention.

"They said not to worry abou blue lips/cold extremeties/mottled skin"

I always thought that those were exactly the things you should worry about.

I keep worrying about this, you sure you don't want to take him to A & E?

dinny · 28/03/2007 19:56

agree, Emkana -

tbh can't believe you're not sat at A&E refusing to leave until your ds is assessed properly. He had the jabs on Thursday - that's a week nearly.
