I have had them about 10 years

I have tried a chiropodist, just cost £100, hurt a lot and didnt work.

Are there any herbal/non medical answers?

Thanks

We're only putting banana on at night - seemed the easier solution Mind you, ds's will probably take longer than yours to go...

SlightlyMadScientist · 27/02/2007 16:55

Just put it on in the evening and leave it on for 24 hours. Doesn't smell honest. Nobody will know....

RubberDuck · 27/02/2007 17:13

SlightlyMad: the main problem is that ds hates it, it's right on the ball of his foot so uncomfortable to have a wadge of banana on and walk around, and I've only managed to bribe him to have it on overnight.

hunkerdave · 27/02/2007 17:19

I've got two I'm trying to shift atm. Had them about 18m.

I had four when I was younger, three went of their own accord, the fourth, I trimmed and poked it for ages one night, then pulled it out and left a big hole in my foot.

This was in the wee small hours when I was a teenager and my parents were asleep downstairs. I thought I'd "best kill off any that was left" and dripped salicylic acid into the hole.

Almost bit my tongue off trying not to scream

Am doing banana skin, plasters and a sock now. MUCH nicer!

SlightlyMadScientist · 27/02/2007 17:38

We found that the banana skin went like a slither of paper overnight - so I can't imagine it is that uncomfortable. When I was researching this I also found others saying that the banana skin actually cushioned the verucca and eased the pain of walking on it.

I guess 5yr olds have their pride to maintain though. I did get my 5yr old to wear it permanently (I gave her the choice of that or Bazooka ). She wouldn't tell anyone she was wearing it thou....

bundle · 27/02/2007 17:43

try the Marigold clinic at teh Royal Homeopathic hospital, two of my friends went there after I recommended it and got rid of long-lasting veruccas

Boco · 27/02/2007 19:04

I too am a verucca owner, suffering in shame and silence for years. My dp won't get in the bath with me anymore, he says my feet are diseased and gross him out too much .

Never heard of the banana cure, i'm so excited, it's given me hope - i've just raided dps tool box looking for duct tape too - will have to take a trip to b&q at the weekend!

Bobalina · 27/02/2007 19:13

I've fallen off the wagon. Did the banana thing for 3 days - effing hideous, the mush squelching with every step, the colour, the smell... Gave up after 3 days as I didn't see one hint of a difference. Is 3 days not long enough to see a change?

SlightlyMadScientist · 27/02/2007 19:35

I think you are more likely to see a change after 7-10 days...

VoodooChickenhead · 27/02/2007 20:47

three days is too short you wimp!!!!!!!!

mine are on the ball of my foot, and the banana is lovely to walk on after a bit.

I have seen change after 1 week

if it happened to mine it will to yours!
GET THAT BANANA BACK ON

Yes Miss - give me 5 mins to catch up on MN!!!

looneytune · 27/02/2007 22:13

Haven't read whole thread but I'm another who's going to say BANANA SKIN DEFFO WORKS!!!!

I had them very bad for years, big cluster of the buggers, went to Bupa through DH's work, had awful lazer treatment that gave me loads of painful holes in my foot. Couldn't walk properly for 4 weeks!!! Didn't work.

Came on MN, advised to try banana skin and stuck with it as didn't want to spread to ds. IT WORKED!!! Was nearly 2 yrs ago and still nothing!

VoodooChickenhead · 28/02/2007 12:23

looney you are an inspiration to us all. Cant believe even lasering didnt work!!!!!!

the MIGHTY BANANA is the key.

Grab A Banana

Bobalina · 28/02/2007 19:00

The banana is back! Voodoo, yes I am a wimp I admit. The sqelchyness is doing my head in. Am I supposed to keep this on ALL day - 24 frigging hours?

Am inspired by your comments so, ta!

looneytune · 28/02/2007 20:07

Seriously, the laser treatment was SOOOO horrible, I actually went into surgical shock during the procedure (well, I went all funny and they tipped the bed upside down and got a fan, I thought they were mad but they said I'd gone into 'surgical shock!' ). The smell is awful (skin burning), you see the smoke, get the pain, very deep holes, take 4 fucking weeks to heal (trying to avoid toddler toys all over the floor!) and it did bugger all!

THE BANANA SKIN IS GOD!!!! You MUST stick to it though and yes, I know it stinks like hell! I actually found it made the verucca pain ease as softened the area.

One thing I did do which I wasn't advised and maybe had nothing to do with them going but hey, didn't make worse........when the area was soggy, you know, the soggy skin. I used to scrap all the yucky black banana stuff and got tweezers on anything that looked like a black dot (verucca).

GOOD LUCK

looneytune · 28/02/2007 20:09

Voodoo - like the pic!

Bobalina - yes, you do need to keep it on for 24 hours and then change it every 24 hrs. Just think how healthy you'll be after eating all those banana's!! (actually, I got sick of them but it's worth it )

RubberDuck · 28/02/2007 20:46

link{http://www.whatreallyworks.co.uk/start/kidszone.asp?article_ID=481\this} implies you don't:

"The healing mucilage found inside banana peel has been shown to help verrucas and other warts disappear. To try this, tape the inside peel of a blackened over-ripe banana over the verruca or wart, cover this with an elastoplast and leave on overnight. Do this for three nights and on the fourth, add a few drops of Tea Tree oil before the banana and tape. Maintain this treatment for 2-3 weeks and watch the wart blacken as it dies off."

RubberDuck · 28/02/2007 20:46

try again

RubberDuck · 28/02/2007 20:48

The BBC one also says overnight.

"Another natural treatment that can be effective is to apply the inside of a banana skin to the verruca. Rub the inner skin against the verruca for a few minutes two or three times a day or cut out a piece of banana skin large enough to cover the verruca, tape it over the verruca to hold it in place, and leave it overnight."

RubberDuck · 28/02/2007 20:49

try the what really works one AGAIN...

Bobalina · 28/02/2007 20:49

Thank you Rubberduck. I don't think I've the stamina for 24hrs, was going to bottle it. I can manage the overnight bit though

RubberDuck · 28/02/2007 20:50

Ditto NHS reckon overnight here

"Banana Skin treatment can be safely tried at home, without professional guidance.
It has been found to work in some patients, the reason for its success is inconclu-
sive. Cut a square of banana skin, no bigger than the size of your verruca. Place on
to a piece of elastoplast (the brown stretchy tape), with the fleshy part of the banana
skin exposed. Securely tape the elastoplast to your foot, with the banana skin over-
lying the verruca. Keep the dressing in place over night and then remove it the next
morning. Repeat nightly as required."

RubberDuck · 28/02/2007 20:53

I'm sure the process will be quicker if left on 24hrs - but I couldn't persuade ds1 to have it on during the day either. Lots of sources seem to think overnight is enough though, so fingers crossed
