I have had them about 10 years

I have tried a chiropodist, just cost £100, hurt a lot and didnt work.

Are there any herbal/non medical answers?

Thanks

I thought I had to live with mine forever.

I'd go with the softening the skin and "then pick lumps out of the buggers" (lol, fruittea). I am the biggest chicken, so no freezing or filing. I just brushed salcylic (sp?) acid on it everyday. You can buy this from pharmacies. This softened the skin and dried it out around the edges. Then using tweezers, I picked a layer or two of dried skin off a day, working from the loose edges.

Until one day, I could feel a hard core. Gently digging around the edges, I pulled it off. The centre of this core was black. It left a hole in my toe with a spot of blood in the centre. The hole healed nicely of its own accord.

THAT was strangely satisfying.

i'm perservering with the banana... 5 days in... think they are getting a bit smaller! will keep you posted.

i tried wartner too, didn't do anything, didn't even hurt. i think mine are too deep and grown up as the oldest is nearly 20 years old

SlightlyMadScientistExperiDave · 21/02/2007 19:58

fruittea - if you do the banana thing you don't have to pick lumps out of it. The banana gradually raises the verucca and then it just seems to seperate itsef from the underlying healthy skin. It is remarkable pain free and honestly it really works. It is even cited on an NHS leaflet.

Ruty - how much banana skin are you using? you only need to cut a little bit the size of the verucca. Hold it on ith 2 plasters arranged in a cross formation directly over the skin.

Honestly - I have tried Bazookka & I have tried banana, and I have tried Wartner & I know which is the only one I would ever use in the future. Banana is less painful and quick and cheaper so why bother with anything else?

Jennster · 21/02/2007 21:31

WARTNER is crap. Used all 10 treatments on my one verrucca and it's still here.

ruty · 21/02/2007 21:40

well i have two verrucas close to each other and used a larger piece of banana skin to cover them both. Will get some duct tape and bind my foot in it i think with a whole banana underneath.
Can't wear socks in bed. How can anyone wear socks in bed?

SlightlyMadScientistExperiDave · 21/02/2007 21:50

Can you treat 1 at a time? I can't imagine a whole (or substantial piece of) banana skin staying in place. The banana skin does seem to kill or disrupt the surrounding skin a bit too so you don't really want to be treating an area than is larger than necessary.

fruittea · 21/02/2007 22:17

Thanks SMS, I hadn't appreciated the distinction. As I said, I'm hoping we've dealt with them now - but I think you've convinced me to go down the banana route if I need to restart. Although how I'll keep it on the end of a toe

SlightlyMadScientistExperiDave · 21/02/2007 22:39

The one we treated was on the side of the toe and that was fine. A plaster over the end of hte toe and then a plater around the toe kept it in place nicely...

VoodooChickenhead · 22/02/2007 19:58

Wellllll I have three in a row so one bit of banana is doing three at once!! Electrical tape is perfect for the job...actually feels comfy!! Its yellow and green striped too, fashionable as well.

They seem to be the same size after three days but I cut off a hell of a lot of dead skin yesterday...

another bananery day.

Can I join in?

Ds1 has had a verruca for about a month - I've been having a policy of ignoring it, so far, but after reading this I thought it'd be better to get rid sooner rather than later.

We're on day 2 of banana - the website I read said only overnight for three nights, then on the fourth pumice down add a couple of drops of tea tree then reapply banana (rinse repeat), so that's what we're doing (he's not too keen on the banana, so only overnight seemed far more realistic anyway).

Am hoping it's a quick cure as I can see his patience wearing thin very quick . I've promised him when it's gone I'll buy him a treat... (it will actually GO won't it?!)

MrsNoahshensgotgobbled · 23/02/2007 21:19

Dont care what anyone says, but they DO go on their own.

Am convinced the body builds up an immunity to them eventually.
Sod all that painful acid stuff. Urrghh.

I always cover them up if they go swimming to stop them spreading.

nooka · 23/02/2007 21:33

Most veruccas will go away on their own. I think that if it's not bothering you or your children then leaving it alone is the best option. Sometimes they take 6 mths or so to go. I had a really persistent one as a teenager, whihc my mother treated with some homeopathic thing and corn plasters. I don't think the homeopathic remedy did anything at all, but the effect of the corn plaster was to make it grow outwards (also helps if it is painful, as it relives the pressure). I then had a beach holiday and I think the sand did the pummising thing and pulled it out. Oh, and the reason banana skin works is because it contains salysic acid (also in bazuca - although I think that is rubbish, and painful with it - always made my warts bleed everywhere when I took it off)

ruty · 24/02/2007 12:35

nooka i've had mine for over three years.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/02/2007 12:41

I had my verrucae for years. On both feet and one was mahooosive (it was loads all together) I tried everything but then went back to Wartner and just kept zapping every 2 weeks. I used it many times more than it said on the bottle and they did go.

Disclaimer - not advocating this but it's what worked for me. Certainly wouldn't over use it on warts on the hands as the skin nd nerves are much more senstitive.

glitterfairy · 24/02/2007 12:45

Am trying the banana skins on two of my kids now and will let you know if it works as they complain all the time about theirs.

VoodooChickenhead · 24/02/2007 19:30

they do not just go on their own!!!!!!
Ive had mine about 15 years!!!!

still doing the banana. Theyve gone all black/brown and the skin is (looser?)

OP posts:
SlightlyMadScientist · 24/02/2007 22:07

Just keep going. The banana does work I promise. Just wipe away any 'loose' black stuff (as the banana obviously deposits some black stuff) each time you change...

MrsNoahshensgotgobbled · 25/02/2007 14:09

voodoo, all ours HAVE gone on their own I promise.

Hope the banana thing works for you though.

VoodooChickenhead · 25/02/2007 18:31

they look flatter and drier today........

OP posts:
VoodooChickenhead · 26/02/2007 16:31

....something is really happening! Bananas have a secret power I never knew about.....

they have gone all brown and dried up looking, and the small ones have got even smaller.....

OP posts:
RubberDuck · 26/02/2007 18:29

Ooo.... so that's what ... just over a week, so far?

VoodooChickenhead · 26/02/2007 22:19

sun 18 Feb 4.53pm Is when I started,
now its a week and a day and a definite change, and Ive had my verrucas approx 10-15yrs, three on right foot, one on left,

Ive tried all available 'cures'
I had a chirop freeze them twice (ouch and double ouch...and £100 down the drain...)

so banana is my last ditch attempt to be able to wear heels again and to walk distance without pain.

OP posts:
VoodooChickenhead · 27/02/2007 15:55

yet to put the banana on today. had handcream on and it stops the tape sticking.
