I have tried a chiropodist, just cost £100, hurt a lot and didnt work.

Are there any herbal/non medical answers?

Thanks

The banana skin seems to draw out the black bits which are the parts that need to be removed. I must admit I did a little filing and trimming with nail scissors each day when they were soft before applying a new piece of banana skin. It took a few weeks and then they were gone. Just make sure they are actually totally gone (ie, you can see no more black bits) before stopping treatment. If they are very stubborn, it will take longer as the black bits will be deeper into the foot.

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 17/02/2007 18:24

I've had one on my foot for over a year. I've never seen any black bits in the middle. I've filed, used banana skin. Does anyone know WHY,no mqatter how much I've dug and filed that I've never found the black bits?
If I file to much it bleeds everywhere, soryy tmi

megandsoph · 17/02/2007 18:26

DD had one for ages and then the other night when I went upstairs she had picked it off roots and all. You could try gouging them out

amidaiwish · 17/02/2007 18:34

voodoochickenhead - do you fancy a banana skin verucca support thread?

i have had mine for 20 years... now i have 5. 2 pg, they didn't go. went to chiropodist in between pregnancies, he used acid, it was so painful that after a day of crying my mum used bicarbonate of soda on them to neutralise the acid!

anyway, last night i taped them up with banana skin - took off this morning and re-applied after a shower. am going to do the same consistently now for a month and then i will see what worked

tried bazuka and wartner, nothing... didn't even hurt. i think i have had them too long and they are too deep/big.

jbadgirl · 17/02/2007 18:40

I had one for ages and i found this caustic pencil called Avoca. its really delicate to use and it turns the skin black so be very careful where you put it. after a few weeks the verruca was completely gone. you can get it in smaller type pharmacies.

small piece of skin, fleshy side down. Hold in place with a plaster/micropore tape. Change every 24hrs, file about once a week. DDs droppped off after about 3 weeks with banana after bazooka (vile stuff) had her in agony every day for 2-3 weeks.

I read it on here - was v sceptical but could't see DD in pain with Bazooka any more - gave it a go. It is probably one of the best things I have got from MN

amidaiwish · 17/02/2007 18:49

jbadgirl - how long did you have it and how big was it? mine is 20 years old, the biggest is bigger than a 1p coin !

SlightlyMadScientist · 17/02/2007 18:51

Ooh and I wiped any gunge away with a baby wipe at every change...

SlightlyMadScientist · 17/02/2007 18:54

and ~I stored each skin in the fridge for 3-4 days to save myself from a diet of bananas - it is supposed to work better with fresh (but black) skin I think.

Bobalina · 17/02/2007 19:15

VoodooChickenhead - Can I just thank you for starting this thread. My verruca appeared 6months ago and I was appalled. Have managed to hide this from everyone, including dh! Such was my embarrassment. Anyway, there's lots of useful hints here that I wouldn't have asked anyone else for. Thank you again and may we all banish the buggers!!

VoodooChickenhead · 18/02/2007 14:53

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I cant believe I waited this long in shame about mine too!!!!!!!!

I am sitting here now with plenty of banana skin in my socks...lets see what happens.

My biggest one is on my Right foot and is the size of a 5p piece, but it has been bigger. After I left them for 6months again it got smaller.

This year I want rid of them before I go on holiday, but after the years I have had them is this just a dream?

When I go back to workin May I will have to wear real shoes again and not the trainers/flipflops I have lived in while on ML, another incentive to get rid.

so the cures seem to be...

banana skin
lavender oil
bazooka
wartner
just leaving them
Avoca pencil
doctor/chirop. burning/freezing treatment
duct tape

ruty · 19/02/2007 17:35

i am also a secret verrucca sufferer. Nothing has worked on my feet so far. Am going to try the banana skin, if i can keep it on. Fingers crossed!

Miaou · 20/02/2007 13:04

ooooh might try the duct tape one! As much as I want to be rid of my verrucas, I really can't bring myself to do the banana thing, turns my stomach (got morning sickness and the smell of bananas is not a good one!!)

ruty · 20/02/2007 17:58

[can someone tell me what duct tape is and where you get it from?]

climbingrosie · 20/02/2007 18:08

Just wanted to add my support as a fellow sufferer!!

I had verruces for about 8 years, bazucca never shifted them, then read about banana skin and have been using it for about a month now, the small varucca on one foot has completely disappeared, took about 2 and a half weeks, the other foot is much worse with a mosaic verruca (lots of little ones clumped tpgether) but it is definately clearing and only the central biggest ones are still there, but I'm carrying on with banana skin until they go!

So to everyone out there with vile verrucas, persevere with the banana skin!

ruty · 20/02/2007 18:15

how do you keep the banana skin on your foot? I would have thought the plaster would get soggy and peel off. And i cannot wear socks at night, too hot [three of us in the bed- including ds]

ediemay · 20/02/2007 18:20

the banana skin sounds fantastic. I had one a few years ago which wouldn't budge. In the end I would soak my foot each night then file the verucca and paint on neat tea tree oil. This got rid of it in about 10 days.

climbingrosie · 20/02/2007 18:24

Funnily enough I use duct tape or other tape to keep the banana skin in place, then no need for socks!

fruittea · 20/02/2007 18:24

Duct tape - hardware shop/B&Q type place

Olihan · 20/02/2007 18:35

Does filing them hurt? Dd (18 months) has one on her heel but I don't want to do anything to it that will hurt her!

And the banana skin thing - do they have to be from really rie bananas or can you use it from fairly unripe ones? I can't stand bananas when they've gone brown and spotty .
