**OUCH! BITTEN NIPPS THAT SWELL UP?***

Good lordie, dd had a cold which got her so frustrated as she couldnt breathe to feed that she chomped on my poor nipp, which has now swelled up into a weird white bump/blister thing and is agony to feed from.

She did it a few weeks ago to the same one, and a blood blister appeared at the tip, which disappeared after a few days of very very careful feeds.

But when I feed her she gets distracted by the slightest noise, eg me sneezing, dh coughing on other side of room, and whips her head round while still attatched. Apart from feeding her in a soundproofed box how the heck do I stop her?

She also tugs very hard on the left one, but is an angel on the right?

Any ideas?????????????
ps she is 4.5mths and I am stopping bf at xmas probably...if I can put up with this pain till then!
tar for your help

Poor you! Although congrats for getting this far
Can sympathise as my dd (now 9 months) did same sorts of things.
Try 'Lanisoh' lanolin cream to soothe sore nips.
I fed lying down on the bed when my boobs were sore. This curtailed her range of movement and took the pressure off her tugging.
I also talk away to her the whole time she's feeding, seems to make her less sensitive to sudden noises.
I'm a first timer at this though, maybe someone else will have better advice.

VoodooBanana · 15/11/2006 16:37

hmmmmm macdoggie-dog

that just got me thinking...I lie down sometimes on my right, but never my left...?

wonder if that is the issue here..I will try itont left tonight.

I will talk throughout too, hmmm I wonder ifthat could work - - do you still do it in public though??
yep I am a lansinoh addict, I could almost eat that wonderful product.

Hey Voodoodoodoo!
I talk to her during feeds no matter where I am. must say, though not as much now as I used to. Get funny looks sometimes but I'm used to that!!
She's pretty bombproof when feeding, apart from taking my nipple away to talk to old ladies!!

VoodooBanana · 15/11/2006 19:34

its always the old ladies.

they are always like the wicked witch of the west...'can I touch the precious child...'snipping off a lock of hair while your head is turned. Crones running towards pushchairs...watch out!

OP posts:
Macdog · 15/11/2006 21:01

Better the old ladies than dirty old men ogling yer boobs!!!
PMSL at old ladies chasing buggy with scissors at the ready....leaving a baldy baby with a shiny skull

worleyone · 15/11/2006 21:42

my 20 week old son has also taken to trying to look around whilst still feeding, tugging my nipple with him!! and when im not looking at him and he suddenly does it i swear he laughs when i yell ouch!!

Macdog · 16/11/2006 01:47

Hi worley! I swear babies have a well developed sense of humour and do it for kicks!!

VoodooBanana · 16/11/2006 12:11

my mum would agree with you, mac-doodley-dog

she says in dark and serious tone 'that child knows more than you think'

dd is also 20weeks........she loves to as I callit, "Rip the Nip"
or "Yoink off" when she hears anything unsual.

OP posts:
VoodooBanana · 16/11/2006 12:12

btw, my nipp now looks very odd indeed and feels like it is on fire when she feeds from it...

OP posts:
VoodooBanana · 16/11/2006 13:55

Hi Voodoo-doodle-doo!
Looks like it's just us
I'm fresh out of ideas

VoodooBanana · 16/11/2006 17:55

cripes but it hurts so much.. I will express if it dont get no better!!
I dont know how to sterilise anything though, and dont think dd will take a bottle as have never done any thing but bf!!!!sad or wot, eh

OP posts:
Macdog · 16/11/2006 18:02

I did actually give dd her feeds in a bottle for a while, usually last bottle before bed.
I found it easiest to express in the morning when boobs were fullest.
I used a cold water steriliser: fill with water, add steriliser tablet, make sure no air bubbles in stuff, wait a bit, use stuff.
So simple even my dh can do it

Not easy to get them used to a bottle, but perseverance paid off for me.

Can't believe how few replies you've had on your thread, though

VoodooBanana · 16/11/2006 19:11

hmmmm jsut checked the cupboard and have one jumbo size bottle of milton? is this the same as stelilizer tablets?

OP posts:
mummyhill · 16/11/2006 19:37

yes just read and follow instructions on dilution. They are usually on the side of the bottle.

Macdog · 16/11/2006 20:51

Good evening VoodleyDoodleyDingDongDoo!!!!
Have a virtual tissue, Hob-Nob biccie and a pint of Wine
Milton solution is exactly the same stuff, just I'm too bone idle to measure it so I use tablet version.
Good luck babes, I'll keep an eye on the thread although I'm for an early night

My dh keeps wondering why I keep PMSL at this thread, then he read the nickname evolutions

worleyone · 16/11/2006 23:08

hey i care!!!!!! Sorry busy day and only just got 5 mins to check in. My nipples were agony a few weeks ago esspess my left, i wanted to cry when it was feeding time, but after a trip to the hv, neither i or ds had thrush, nor was it positioning we think it was due to the antibiotics i was taking as i had a root canal infection. after stopping them its a p[leasure to feed again, i feel a bit emotional when i think that in 8 weeks i have to go back to work and wont be feeding as often!! i cant stop as he has an allergy to formula and is going on to junior pepti but he wont drink it, so he has it with baby rice and im not having to mix it with my milk to try to get him to have some ready for when i go back to work.

sorry thats a bit off the subject !!

worleyone · 16/11/2006 23:13

i am also finding it easier to express in the morning, i dont know why as ds only goes 3-4 hours between feeds day and night, but maybe its me thinking it's easier. has anuyone found one boob easier to express from than the other? i only seem to get a few oz from left but loads more from the right.
i have a microwave steriliser, it only takes 6 mins and its done, so by the time my other ds finished his shreddies its all done and i get on with expressing

VoodooBanana · 16/11/2006 23:22

worley, you are a mum who means business. and the shreddies sound good in your house.

macdogawallawalladingdong-changchang-changity-chang-che-bop, Im off to MIL for fri night with the weeun so I will just have to grimace as I am not faffing with sterilising things and risking ending up coming across all confused and upset, it will have to wait till monday.
this actually sounds quite confused now I re-read it, hmmmm or
