lou33 · 08/12/2006 09:58

2 weeks today

it's been pretty ok so far for me, the odd craving, but nothing worth writing home about now

i've been in 2 situations in those 2 weeks where i could have smoked but didnt, and tonight i am off out as well, but am not bothered about wanting a fag

imaginaryfriend · 08/12/2006 11:39

What a bunch of amazing success stories we are!

Pann, I've got a cracking headache this morning and when I first read your post I thought it said 'just fell upstairs after eating a couple of buddies' ... I know people tend to binge eat a bit while quitting but still ...

lou33 · 10/12/2006 00:05

went to the pub friday night and didnt smoke, no real cravings today

charliecat · 10/12/2006 14:07

Doing fantastic folks. Remember that by having a fag you will just put yourself back to square 1. And you will only wish you had desperately not done it a few minutes later.
And whatever stres is going on in your life, a fag WILL NOTmake it go away, it will just give you another thing to stress about, your failure to stop.
Well done everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lou33 · 12/12/2006 10:19

imaginaryfriend · 12/12/2006 13:53

4 months on Friday!!

Wll done, lou! Are you looking forward to a fag-free 2007?

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 12/12/2006 18:31

Back to day 1 I'm afraid.

Yesterday was day 11. We had a core group meeting and it didn't go well. I ended up storming out in tears and went straight for the fags. Had a couple then because I knew I still had 8 there had another later on. Tore the rest up and back to square 1. Aaaargh!

Well done everyone who is still going.

lou33 · 12/12/2006 18:57

it will be handy when the non smoking ban comes in

imaginaryfriend · 12/12/2006 21:24

kelly, don't worry, I've done that so many times I've lost count. The most important thing is to do what you did, chuck the fags in the bin and start again. How are you doing by the way? I haven't seen a thread update about your recent troubles.

Yep, lou, it will make it harder to keep smoking for sure. It's strange because I'm partly against the ban. Not that I want any temptations to smoke, nor that I'm not aware that it would be good for everyone not to smoke, it's just that it seems very hard on those who are genuinely addicted and finding it hard to quit. I know if I'd still been smoking I'd have hated it. Plus there are so many anti-social things that people do which aren't banned and should be. Like pissing in phone boxes. etc.

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 12/12/2006 22:12

thanks imaginaryfriend. There is a sort of update here I really need to posta gain, but I'm trying not to think about it too much at the moment - it jsut stresses me out. Trying to think nice, positive, non-smoking thoughts.

DeepPannCrispandEven · 12/12/2006 22:43

"do which aren't banned and should be. Like pissing in phone boxes. etc. "

Well I live in the UK, and urinating in what phone boxes are left is very much frowned upon, and certainly not encouraged.....

NattyandThomasandBumpandSanta · 12/12/2006 23:11

well done guys keep it up! just spotted this thread and could really have done with it 15 months (yes it really has been that long) ago.
i gave up when i fell pregnant last summer, (took three months "cringe" i felt dreadful) but found the gap between tom and my current pregnancy (only 4 months) really really hard.
i am ashamed to say that i am straying again, and nearly bought a box in tescos today.
some support guys please... i really dont want to start up again, and stress busting ideas?

thanks for listening

xxxx

lou33 · 13/12/2006 11:39

I dont like the idea of a ban either, i dont know how it will affect the pubs and clubs, but i dint know of anyone who has said they are going to give up because of the ban.

I would still be smoking if i hadnt woke up that morning unable to breathe properly (which i actually think was down to my cat being in my room now, lol)

Anyway, day 19!

lou33 · 14/12/2006 09:41

day 20

notasheep · 14/12/2006 13:58

Well done Lou,and each day it will get easier

lou33 · 14/12/2006 16:08

i'm surprised at how relatively easy i have found it tbh

not that i havent had cravings but they havent driven me mad or lasted v long

i bet it all comes back to haunt me now

MegJoshMum · 14/12/2006 20:28

I am on day 23 today. Agree with you Lou thought it would be harder than this, why did I not give up before???

lou33 · 14/12/2006 20:32

lol i did give up before, for 12 years, started about 3 1/2 yrs ago again

imaginaryfriend · 14/12/2006 21:08

Well I'm glad you guys found it easy, I found it a bloody nightmare of cravings and insanity!

4 months tomorrow for me. I don't think I've even thought once about fags this whole week, not once. In fact it's often only when I come on here now that I think about them again and feel a vague pang / craving.

Hello Natty - how are you doing now?

lou - they'll ban alcohol too from pubs and ... hey presto, they'll become coffee bars! I was wondering the other day if there are any studies comparing the ill-health caused by alcohol with that caused by smoking. Not that I'm pro-smoking, I'm not, it's a trap, but I have never been able to fall into that holier-than-thou camp about it. I was a smoker, I understand still why people are smokers. I'm also a boozer but that's another story!

southeastastra · 14/12/2006 23:28

i'm glad you said that if! i wish they'd bloody ban the things totally

imaginaryfriend · 15/12/2006 10:04

SEA that would be such a horrid way to quit though wouldn't it? I'd hate that to be forced to quit. I'd much rather do it in my own, crap but seemingly this time successful, way.

Spottydog · 15/12/2006 10:18

Day 28 for me, my sentiments exactly MegJoshMum, I only wish it hadn't taken me so long. At the moment I can't imagine smoking again, it is a very strange feeling, I hope it stays this way.

charliecat · 19/12/2006 11:20

Hello Strangers...I read somehwere that they stopped selling fags in some country and there was stampedes at the brders to get into the next fags selling country...hmmmmm

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 19/12/2006 11:22

hello everyone. i'm on day 7 since I smoked on the 12th, so doing okish. I'm finding the cravings a bit mreo manageable now and jsut avoiding any stressful sitiations altogether.

charliecat · 19/12/2006 11:23

Good Good Kelly, Well Done
Remeber that a fag WILL NOT take away your problems, it will only add to them.
