What do we want? Fruit and veg! When do we want it? Now! (10/10 club week 6)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

oh Bo*cks!! That beautiful place! Bern. Divine. Lucky you.

Papillon · 13/09/2006 11:38

Great city. Hopefully off this afternoon as the sun is out to the local free pool on the river. Its a great spot and not far from my home.

Are you not working this week and taking your holidays on MN?

Pann · 13/09/2006 11:53

Zooming in and out, paps. SHOULD have been through Geneva a couple of days ago, for a weeks walking in the Alps - a friend has an apartment in Chamonix, but my walking buddy is 'between jobs' and couldn't raise the travel/subsistence costs....been through Geneva airport lots of times for skiing at Cham. - can NEVER figure out the French/Swiss side thing!!

So it's a week of house-type things, playing with dd tonight and weekend, and trying dismally to avoid MN!!

Papillon · 13/09/2006 12:05

That would have great, weather here this week is fab.

Thought this might interest you

Pann · 13/09/2006 12:19

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 13/09/2006 19:35

aargh! something is up with my cats! I did suspect as much. I just can't do it right. Am not entirely sure I paid properly, tbh.

it was just an "are you alright I'm sorry if any of this is my fault" type msg. Am kind of assuming you are, cos you're still here! If not, will try to resend or failing that franny has my rl email + I know you have franny's, so get mine off her. I just don't want to upset people, I don't like it.

aargh...

anyway, am feling better, have eaten HUUUGE bowl of pasta and mushrooms and a small amount of banana cake. and lots of virtual banaana cake.

so...2 portions then....

Papillon · 13/09/2006 20:19

You have not upset me Filly

Cor everyone apologising

I ate quinoa for dinner with 3 vege, with all the fruit this arvo, have made 10 today.

Papillon · 14/09/2006 07:50

Hope your feeling better today Filly and Charlee your hot flushes are lessening.

I have not eaten any fruit yet today, hows that for reckless!?

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2006 07:53

I had an ok day yesterday. Well, tried to run and couldn't summon the energy (), was v tired from interrupted night etc. But I did two 20-minute bouts of high-speed cycling (to DS1's school and back) which was good, other than DS2 being upset about being woken to go get DS1, and screaming for most of the ride.

Food wasn't so good. Muesli (1), two big oranges (2), sandwich with tomato (1), big bowl of salad (4?) for a total of 8. DH had a late night and I'm working at the co-op today, so I was a bit worn out.

Today's exercise will be the 40 minutes of cycling, which will probably be a daily thing now, so I might not run for a bit, while everything settles down. Oh, and working at the co-op is exercise, too.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 14/09/2006 08:10

NQC I want to know more of your co-op. It always intrigues me when you mention it

Am staying off fruit for now. I feel better but not 100%. Am sticking to Ritz crackers . It is db's birthday on Friday and he is a very very good cook, so I need to be well for that really

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2006 08:21

Fillyjonk, bananas are a good fruit for when you're recovering from d+v (but if you don't feel like it, don't eat them! your body knows what it needs!)

The co-op is a parent-run nursery. Parents do shifts. It's only open for 4 hours/day (just under), and it's for kids from 20 months until they start school.

We do have some professional staff, too, and we're Ofsted registered and all that.

It's a lovely environment, and very cheap childcare, besides.

Charleesunnysunsun · 14/09/2006 08:41

Just popping in to say hello! I know i haven't been as active as usual this past few days but am lurking and watching you all! I am arranging ds's birthday party tomorrow and im still eating my fruit and veg and doing the excersise i can.

LieselVonTrapp · 14/09/2006 09:31

This is the first time in my life Ive done 10 a day and do you know your poos float. Im told this is healthy.

Pann · 14/09/2006 09:57

LVT - do they have an outboard motor, or sails?????

Morning all!! Floating happily myself today...3 portions of the fruit already with a big fat salad coming over the horizon for lunch...could be edging nearer the big 10 today! Yay!

Papillon · 14/09/2006 11:40

You know that song my boomerang won´t come back?

Well dd outboard motors were cruising the pond when a friend visited and needed the loo...

it all ended in impromtu song,

My kaka keeps coming back
My kaka keeps coming back

as hard I tried and as hard as I tried

My kaka keeps coming back

coleslaw for lunch - about 3 portions

NQC am signing dd up for a non-profit English playgroup atm

Papillon · 14/09/2006 17:06

Guess that left you all speechless!

For dinner is vegetables cooked in coconut, forgot the curry leaves, oh well next time and steamed rice.

Hope party arrangements are going smoothly Charlee

Pann · 14/09/2006 17:36

Not speechless as such paps. Just kinda puts one off going to the toilet for a while...

Papillon · 14/09/2006 17:39

Harden up boy, this is MN and we have a board devoted to toilet training and nappies

Forgot to mention my quinoa sprouts, they are very delicate and were nice in my coleslaw. They don´t seem to be keeping very well though. NOt really worth the effort. Think I will stick to my lentil sprouts

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2006 17:57

Today is not a good day for food for me. I had muesli, and a bit of veg at the co-op ... oh, and a bit of fruit, maybe 2 servings? And then 40 minutes hard biking. Am about to have dinner, which will be giant veggie stirfry/curry type thing, with quinoa. Should fix matters.

Am completely limp from hard day, lack of sleep, fighting with DS1 (who was crushing worms ), and co-op shift. And tomorrow I have 80 minutes of biking scheduled. Damn.

And where is DH? Grrr.

fullmoonfiend · 14/09/2006 19:05

not so good for me too. Home made veggie pizza (tomatoes, peppers, onions, muchtroom and sweetcorn)for lunch, with an apple and some juice. some plums. But dh is away tonight and I can't be bothered to cook so am grazing at home-made apple cake (apples???!!) kettle chips and homemdae salsa (tomatoes and peppers!)

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2006 21:30

My curry/stir fry came out way too hot. I really am not used to working with fresh peppers. Still, I ate loads, so that must count for something.

Have just done a big Pilates tape (30 mins?). Feel much better for it. (I did only 40 minutes biking yesterday and 40 minutes today. Planning 80 tomorrow, but might run too, depending on how mad I feel.)

Pann · 14/09/2006 22:59

ok. Good start, reasonable middle...good finish (Still eating a peach!). First day hitting the 10, but no exercise!!.....and do baked beans count??

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 15/09/2006 07:42

Paps-how do you get seeds etc to sprout? Can you talk me through it like the idiot I am? pleese?

Whenever I try it, they end up mouldy, which is unpleasent.

All I ate yesterday was about 20 bananas. Am feeling sooooo much better now. . Can attack that big pile of fruit of the cocoa tree now.
