What do we want? Fruit and veg! When do we want it? Now! (10/10 club week 6)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

I feel like having a junk food day

or am I not allowed to admit to that

its Charlees´ds birthday afterall and dd has announced she wants a birthday day after seeing that jingle I posted for Filly about 20 times this morning.

So we are off to bake cake

I will regale you soon Filly upon the mysteries of sprouts and sprouthood. But I must Bake!

oh Pann and Baked beans - well all the canned stuff on the Basic guidance F&Z posts is equal to frozen and fresh. So Baked Beans are navy beans right? So I say 3.5 tablespoons for 1 portion

All say "I" or hold your hand up for the vote.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/09/2006 09:53

I think only one of your 10 portions can be beans etc. Baked beans (homemade or canned) certainly count. (Ditto, only 1 can be juice.)

I've had muesli and part of a banana. Am feeling quite limp, as have already done 40 minutes biking, and have another 40+ to go, today. Might go make a giant smoothie or even some juice from the random fruit + veg mouldering in fridge.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 15/09/2006 10:18

oh, you can squeeze quite a lot of portions into a cake, paps. especially if you count the fruit of the cocoa tree

make a banana, apricot and raisin cake. the bonus of that is that the kids probably won't like it, so more for you

don't forget to add lots of sugar tho.

Pann · 15/09/2006 10:32

Morning all!!

sounds like a nice day all round....careful Fills, you might end up looking thin and yellow, and slightly bendy!...whereas I am def. taking on a round appearance with a ruby hue...

ok, museli, plus alot of dried fruit, and a peach for breakfast, and offski to gym for LOTS of exercise!! and thank you for the beans executive decision...knew I would nag a positive out of you!! "yes, yes just tell him yes, FFS!!"

Papillon · 15/09/2006 12:02

made the cake - a 2 banana with cocoa plant... no sugar as such... granulated molasses and honey. We stuck candles in it then sung happy birthday to the cookbook with a mate who came for lunch!

Unfortunately I have broken my vow to be a junkie today and ate an exceptionly healthy lunch of coleslaw salad and left over dinner.

Will post my coleslaw recipe soon... it was a hit at Beety´s summer MN party.

Papillon · 15/09/2006 12:05

am now back to junk food with Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar Chips

Better than Paprika, or more paprika which is the standard Crisps in CH

NotQuiteCockney · 15/09/2006 12:25

I have had four kiwis. There is no real junk in house, unfortunately, as I am starving. Off to have toast, I guess. Should have salad, but not sure can be arsed.

Papillon · 15/09/2006 12:33

I have alot of fruit in house, but I think I read on here and also can feel it that more vege than fruit in the 10 is better. I get a sore tummy if I have too much fruit and whilst I am in awe of your collosial (sp!!) banana consumption Filly, maybe I should since its brain food I think?

so careful with all those kiwis ´cuse the pun,am feeling consumed!

now have to run!

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 12:35

Can I come in? Yesterday I had: (all raw) leeks, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, French breans, spring onions, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, apple, radishes and cabbage.

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 12:36

....oh, and strawberries

Papillon · 15/09/2006 12:37

Hi Greensleaves

REally lovely to see oyu here, must dash!

NotQuiteCockney · 15/09/2006 12:46

Hey GS, what's with the mad raw veg thing? Please do come in.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/09/2006 12:47

Oh, and I've failed to have toast, made myself guacomole and ate it with a spoon. Yum. (No nachos etc in house, couldn't bring myself to eat it with bread.)

I don't know what's in avocadoes that I want, but boy do I want avocadoes atm. (Saturated fats, maybe?)

Pann · 15/09/2006 12:54

oh Hi Greensies.......gotta go!!

Pann · 15/09/2006 13:00

Greensie - you were kidding about eating the entire content of Norfolk. Raw. Right? >

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 15:13

I am on a diet, and also my boys have colds so am shoving them full of fruit and veg - have loads of extra fruit and veg around because of allotment - combination of factors really! When I'm dieting I find a big bowl of mixed chopped raw veg satisfies me because of the variety of textures/colours, and it takes a while to eat

Not kidding though - today so far I have consumed: leek, spring onion, apple, carrot, strawberry, broccoli, celery, radishes, green/red/yellow pepper, onion, white cabbage and a boiled egg, plus two cups of lemon tea and two bottles of evian.

I have been on this "extreme vegetable-eating" thing for about a week now, and I am actually feeling more energised and less foggy.

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 15:14

I forgot - cucumber in there too

Papillon · 15/09/2006 19:07

The raw diet would mean many dishes to wash Greensleeves?

After committing to eating crap, I was given platefuls of fruit to eat at playgroup this arvo - 3 portions. Made up for it by having Pizza for dinner with tomatos and rucola - 1 portion.

Am eating a peach right now, I seem to have gone off junk food. What will become of me?

NQC I had avocado spread on bread with coleslaw today.

Sprouts tomorrow Filly

Papillon · 15/09/2006 19:08

The raw diet would mean not too many dishes to wash Greensleeves?

..

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 19:13

Yes, very low-maintenance in that sense - a bit of a faff storing and chopping and arsing about with so many fresh ingredients though

The rub is - I'm bloody starving

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2006 19:14

Do you have to be vegetarian to come in????

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 19:16

I bloody hope not

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2006 19:16
Papillon · 15/09/2006 19:20

I live with vegetarians! VVV you are always slamming the door when you come in... SHHHHHH

You need a blender that chops Greensleeves. You will have bigger arms than Franny.

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 19:21

Um - I have considerably bigger arms than Franny
