What do we want? Fruit and veg! When do we want it? Now! (10/10 club week 6)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

VVV - it's all of that meat she eats....forgets her own strength.....

Papillon · 15/09/2006 19:37

but its at least 10 minutes exercise while you eat Greensleeves !

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2006 19:51

how dare you call me a meat eater.....

Sorry, I shant upset you delicate types further...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2006 19:56

Harpsi, veal is not meat, is it???

harpsichordcarrier · 15/09/2006 19:58

no no VVV, veal is made from some sort of genetically engineered vegetable matter, as I understand it

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2006 20:05

Oh right, I thought the Gods made it from scented rose petals and fields of golden corn.

Greensleeves · 15/09/2006 20:11

No, that's ambrosia, you pillock

FrannyandZooey · 16/09/2006 07:33

I go away for a few days and come back to people discussing veal

Hello, fellow fruit freaks and I am very glad to see the thread is still going. I will try to pop in regularly even when I am not on MN much, and would still like to start the new threads off each week etc but perhaps people would prefer someone new to do that? It has also been suggested we don't need a leader and of course we don't - if people want me to butt out that is fine as well.

Have tried to read and remember everyone's questions - FMF I am laughing at the fact you think "Shake it like a polaroid picture" is romantic.

I have done some more research for the blender crew, and come up with this which you will be pleased to read:

"Whether you drink a glass of fruit juice or a whole carton of fruit juice, it can only count as one fruit and veg portion per day. Sorry folks, but when fruit and veg are juiced, they lose their fibre so this guideline is in place to ensure we all get enough fibre to keep our bowels happy. If you smoothie your fruit, on the other hand (blend up whole fruit with milk, yoghurt and other yummy things like honey), each fruit portion that goes into your blender counts."

So sorry if I have misled you previously. I did think I had read that processed (blended) fruit and veg was not so effective for health (thinking about it though, that would mean soup was not so good either. Hmm. Ah well, virtually everything I recommend on here turns out to be wrong sooner or later )

Greeny it is lovely to see you but as usual I am worried about your diet. When you listed the things you ate yesterday, including the egg, did you mean that was all you had eaten? I rather fear you did (have seen you do it before). WILL YOU PLEASE STOP CRASH DIETING AND EAT SOME PROTEIN AND CARBS THAT YOUR BODY NEEDS PLS? You need fats in your diet as well. A scary low fat low carb diet like this will leave you feeling more depressed long term. Sorry to be all heavy but I am worried about you.

NQC someone said you wanted dumplings? Was that on the recipe thread? I will look.

Oh and thank you very much to everyone who has sent me emails, gossip and links, it was lovely of you

Oh and finally, where is Overrun? We have not seen her for ages? I hope you come back and join us Overrun, you were always very inspiring with how you fit your exercise around the children. Hope you are ok if you see this.

Hey Frances. I quite like "Hey Ya" too. Then again, I'm dreadful with proper "romantic" songs. (Presumably you were hoping for "Lady in Red"? ;-) )

I had pasta + pesto for tea, and then lots of popcorn. I feel nearly recovered from the mad biking yesterday, but my back is a mess . Looks like pilates today, except we're off to Bluewater I think.

FrannyandZooey · 16/09/2006 08:18

LOL at Lady in Red. Northern Sky is my favourite 'romantic' song I think (a snippet here and lyrics here . But I am finding OutKast quite funny, which is what it was meant to be (I think?). I think FMF finding it romantic is marvellous, though

What's up with your back? You can't mix Bluewater with pilates, anything could happen

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 16/09/2006 08:23

Biking isn't really good for one's back, imo. 80 minutes mad hurried cycling while a baby screams at you certainly isn't.

No pilates at Bluewater, I don't think.

FrannyandZooey · 16/09/2006 09:14

I have not been out on the real bike, at all, but I am using the recumbent cycle at the gym to do interval training, which is my favourite thing at the moment. You pedal normally for 45 secs then go like a loon for 15 secs, and you are racing against the computer thing which makes it more interesting.

Is the 80 mins / screaming related to the new school drop off?

Hey F&Z good to see you

We of the coop would rather you butt in than out. As you can tell from our banter about being a coop, over replacing our beloved leader! Do you wish to remain in charge? Don´t want to place pressure on you in that way, you could still boss us around if you like?!

Overrun had a scare with her kids on a busy road last week and I think it has put her off fruit and vege. Maybe with some coaxing she will return??

Morpheus blew me off last night and I ate alot of grapes at 4am. That and a head cold got me a sleep in though

FrannyandZooey · 16/09/2006 09:21

Hi Paps, thanks for your last email - I am aiming to catch up on correspondence today

I am happy to just carry on as we are or change things if people want to. I don't think we actually need a leader at all, just someone to post a new thread each Monday, but I do like throwing my weight around (usually in a semi humorous style I hope). Did this cause some of the problems last week though?

I have eaten grapes, apple, plums, peach, raisins and soya milk. Hey that is 6 for breakfast alone, not bad.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 16/09/2006 09:21

Oh and how can we coax Overrun back? Where is she hanging out?

Over-ru-un! Over he-ere!

OP posts:
Papillon · 16/09/2006 09:29

How about no leader and we all throw our weight around? My Leo rising would love that!!!

I will try and not get all sensitive. I am feeling more comfortable now cos have gotten to know everyone alittle more.

fullmoonfiend · 16/09/2006 09:44

F&Z, I meant 'romantic' as in he thinks about you in order to do these little surprises Though I, like NQC, do not do traditional romantic...
(we like folk songs about death which make us cry, and 'our' tune is a lesser-known new wave/punk classic.)
If my dh did me a compliation which featured Chris de Burgh, I know it would be his non-confrontational way of telling me it's over

But back to the fruitandveg. Today I shall be digging for 2 hours down the allotty, and I have had a headache for 2 days so will be makingmyself drink more water. Lunch will be allotment soup and dinner will be fridgey-bargi! (curry of some sort involving the numerous fridgey bits of peppers, mushrooms, squash, cauli etc.)

Pann · 16/09/2006 09:50

Frances!! How the hell are you??

thnak you for the news on the blender thing - did seem odd, but who am I to question an authority figure.....

and speaking of which, I don't mind you throwing your weight around in a humorous way - kinda cute really...

mueseli with extra dried fruit for breakfast, a alrge navel(!), and then off to another agricultural show with dd! Yay!

and paps, who IS this lucky Morpheus character.

Papillon · 16/09/2006 09:53

FMF hope the digging loosens the muscles and make the headache better and not worse! I like the sound of fridgey-bargi, it explains alot to me about my rummagings in the fridge!

So who wants to share piccys?? I would love to see what you all really look like!

Papillon · 16/09/2006 10:07

agricultural show? do you have paddocks Pann?

Into the arms of Morpheus... I have loved that term since reading a letter from my Grandfather to my Grandmother, that she read on whilst on a ferry - now that romantic!!

Pann · 16/09/2006 10:12

Paddocks - millions of them!!

dd has the task of leading the competition donkeys round in the ring..

In the arms of Morpheus - sounds oozingly romantic..[misty,teary emocion]

Papillon · 16/09/2006 11:25

I wanted a horse, my brother a dog, we got Esmeralda the donkey

Grew up going to donkey shows with Mum She has 2 donkeys, a donkey cart and used to dress up as Mother Christmas for the kids, Christmas parades and even took the donkey to Church!

Making Butternut soup with vegetables for lunch.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 16/09/2006 11:39

5 bananas and some raisins

hmmm

there is a pattern to my fruit consuption, I am realising.

I am not exercising today, I am studying and pondering how to rearrange my front room to look like a tove jansson book. However, I have send dp and dm and db and the kids to the allotment so, with luck, they will exercise for me.

I might walk around ikea later though.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 16/09/2006 11:39

oh, another banana, I am so dedicated.
