southeastastra · 12/09/2006 13:43

well done on getting to day 5! i am still fighting the monster but resisting, i don't know for how much longer though hardest thing i've ever done

notasheep · 12/09/2006 13:49

Charlie is the big support on here for us.
I have stopped for 3 years in the past and 18 months so you can imagine how angry i am.

ONE DAY AT A TIME.Then one day you will get through the day and think OMG i havent thought about fags today. At the moment i am staring at anyone with a fag.
If you have one you havent failed BUT then you are back to the very beginning with the withdrawing.

Whyquit.com is best site for loads of reading

Dropinthe · 12/09/2006 15:07

I started again in the Summer--STUPID STUPID STUPID ME!! Have got to go through all that ag again and am dreading it.
For you that don't know me, I stoped for a year and a half with the help of Charlie and Fiona Gibson and a Whymummy,(is she still around??).
Then had my Summer holiday with a few here and a few there and then it just happened and I was a smoker again.
Am very pissed off about it!

coderoo · 12/09/2006 15:09

lol at anyone else rememebing NIck o teen

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 15:10

Yep, notasheep, that's me, tons of semi-successful quits, best quit 3 years, another one for 9 months (pregnant), then odd ones for 2 and 3 months a time. That's why I can't celebrate just yet although I do feel differently this time like I just can't FACE failing this time.

sea, it IS hard. How many have you been smoking a day? Have you got rid of that pack you had yesterday? There's no way you can do it if you have your favourite fags around. Well, I couldn't. I had to totally deny myself then go nowhere near corner shops!!!

Do you remember that ad. coderoo?

'not so fast nick o teen!'

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 15:14

Drop!!!!! I just saw your post. You'd quit for AGES ...

Great to hear from you though, we've kept wondering ... In case you don't remember me, I came and had lunch at your house once with my dd ...

Tortington · 12/09/2006 15:52

i feel like i am lagging. i want a fag. i want that ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

buy i know i absolutleyt know i wan'teven enjoying it int he end. my breathing was bad. it was killing me.

still today at dinner i looked on with envy at the students killing themselves having a fag.

its rubbish becuase i went a good 4 or 5 days last week not even thinking about it.

also pissed off with how much i am eating.

coderoo · 12/09/2006 16:20

I THOUGHT IW AS THE ONLY PERSON INT EH WORLD SHO STILL SYASY THAT

iooops

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 18:51

coderoo, I thought I was the only person who said it. I've even customised it to use with dd 'not so fast girl o mine'. There was also an advert for a 'perfume' called 'ashtray' and they pronounced 'ashtray' in a really poncy French accent. I still say that when things smell very faggy.

custarto, I've had similar moments. They DO pass. AND if you had a puff now it really truly would taste absolutely yuck an d make yu feel bad and then you'd have to go through the whole process again. I got past that 3 week stage slightly before you and it really has got much easier since then. Most days it barely enters my head unless I get very stressed about something. How come you're eating more do you think? Blood sugar? Or distraction tactics?

OP posts:
charliecat · 12/09/2006 19:56

fixating
im not going to smoke today
never take another puff
the monster under the bed

charliecat · 12/09/2006 19:57

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 21:12

cc - did you see the return of dropinthe!!!???

drop, are you really back or just popped your head in? How many are you smoking now? Have you still been posting on MN?

How's the non-sheep?

And southeastastra?

Custardo are you resisting the urges?

OP posts:
charliecat · 12/09/2006 21:23

Yes, madness, hope she returns
What book is it by that maggie person you were after I got 3 in a charity shop today.

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 21:30

You got 3 Maggie O Farrell's? I've read them all but I don't have a copy of the latest one - the best one, I think, is 'after you'd gone' you've got to read it!! 'My lover's lover' is great too, then there's a third one which I've forgotten the title of which wasn't so hot. And the new one 'the disappearance of Esme Lennox' or something like that which I borrowed from somebody.

Great links you posted btw, just read them all.

I'm feeling so pleased with myself generally though, cc, right now I find it very hard to imagine back-sliding. I'll NEVER forgive myself if I do.

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 21:32

Cc, I faced the challenge I dreaded today - my 'secret' smoker friend and I used to always go for a quick one in the woods behind the school after dropping off time and I loved it and worried it would interfere with our friendship. Today we went, she smoked, I barely noticed (really!!!) and we chatted the same as always. VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT.

OP posts:
charliecat · 12/09/2006 21:36

ive got the 2 you mention and another but not the 3rd youve just said. Am not in the middle of a book so will start tonight
your secret smoker freind will follow in your footsteps shortly I shoudl imagine

southeastastra · 12/09/2006 21:36

i still need to read whyquit until it sinks into my brain i might print it off and repeat never take another puff again and again. not a great day but my dp is stunned that i have some fags left from a whole packet brought yesterday morning.

ok not great but a good start for me.

charliecat · 12/09/2006 21:38

Let this soak in SEA, you are trying, which is better than sitting in the armchair chuffing away clueless

With this puff I enslave myself
to a lifetime of addiction.
While I can?t promise to always love you,
I do promise to obey every craving and
support my addiction to you
no matter how expensive you become.

I will let no husband or wife,
no family member or friend,
no doctor or any other health professional,
no employer or government policy,
no burns or no stench,
no cough or raspy voice,
no cancer or emphysema,
no heart attack or stroke,
no threat of loss of life or limbs,
come between us.

I will smoke you forever
from this day forth,
for better or worse,
whether richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health,
till death do us part!

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 21:46

How old are you sea? Roughly. I think that at some point the sickness at yourself for smoking just gets too unbearable so that all the pain of quitting seems nothing in comparison with the self-loathing of smoking.

Cc, I wish my mate would quit. She's got a lousy cough. She went into the woods before me today and I couldn't find her at first then I just followed the sound of her cough!

OP posts:
charliecat · 12/09/2006 21:47

Aw man I followed my mum by her trail of smoke today. I sniffed until i found her up the street.

southeastastra · 12/09/2006 21:47

ooh i hate it i'm 37

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 21:48

Jeez, cc ... how many does she smoke a day now?

OP posts:
charliecat · 12/09/2006 21:49

Ok, if your starting to feel really shitty about this its time to get hold of it by the bollocks and regain control. Really.. read whyquit till its spurting out in your sleep.

imaginaryfriend · 12/09/2006 21:50

Time to stop, then sea? Wait until you've got none around though? How many dp / dd's do you have and what ages? Are they out at school? Which are your worst trigger points when you most need a fag?
