With my past,at the moment i would say NO!!!!!!!
I dont wish to appear negative but as you know i started again after 3 years......

Also,I think that ex smokers are not the same as people who have never smoked. Its in our veins forever and everyday we must make the choice not to smoke

imaginaryfriend · 14/09/2006 14:04

I know. Thus what happened to me earlier today.

Just read about it,bloody hell!!!!! its that Nicotine Monster and i think when you are that close you have to swear at it and tell it to f off.I have been doing alot of talking to myself.

Remember that fag really wants to kill you and is trying to seduce you which ever way it can.

Its good to get angry with it.

I stopped January 2004 until July 2005 and it was one of those oh one wont hurt, and worst of all this was after my friends funeral she would of been so upset about it and now i cant forget it.

If u are so madly close to one,get on here and bash away and it will pass

Pann · 14/09/2006 15:22

IF. What did you mean??

Have ran water over the last of them. Notasheep. So os right, the little f*ckers.

1h 41 mins in.

notasheep · 14/09/2006 16:37

Pann-remember you are not giving anything up,you are stopping smoking.

If the brain thinks its giving something up then it will feel deprived.......been down that road.

imaginaryfriend · 14/09/2006 18:15

It's strange though why suddenly some days are harder than others. I've been haunted a few times today while the last few days, barely a flicker.

notasheep you're turning into a great motivator. I'm sure that me, you and cc could start some kind of quitting group on the side! Where are you based sheepless? We could stand on either side of cc - tall breastless sentinels and she could be the buxom beauty in the middle quoting great long texts from whyquit.

Ifriend thanks for the compliment-most of it i have the god Allen Carr to thank,i think youll find that most of the things i say on here he was there first
Did you know that if you phone the national stop smoking quit line they will NOT recommend Allen Carr as he isnt a patch, lozenge or piece of gum

So what are you going to do tomorrow?!
Its a whole week for me at 11am,i cant believe it but its true.

At the moment i am in Wales(though not welsh) and originally from the South East.

Pan man-are you still with us,you can still get on here with or without a fag

southeastastra · 14/09/2006 21:15

you lot are doing well, i'm building up to a total quit, and have got the allen carr book again on amazon

imaginaryfriend · 14/09/2006 21:16

where in the SE were you from? Dp and I 'almost' moved to Cardiff a while ago. One of the many failed schemes to escape London town!

hurray sea. Keep posting here in the meantime? Gear yourself up for it and then dive in and hope for the best!! How many are you smoking a day at this point and for how long at that rate? Between now and quit day try to cut out all the unnecessary purely habitual ones. I've always found that helpful.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 14/09/2006 21:23

that's what i'm doing at the mo. i've cut out quite alot in the last couple of days, though mil's solutions to giving up don't help! my dad quit aged 60 he just stopped one day, we were amazed.

notasheep · 14/09/2006 21:30

Southeast-Allen Carr is as i am sure most people would agree THE BEST.I have lost count how many times i have read his book, and the funny thing i can remember is having a fag while holding the book in my hand
My present quit is the Allen carr stuff mostly, you will get there.

Ifriend-i was in Oxford then in Surrey, moved here as dp wanted to go to this particular University, actually his first choice was Edinburgh but he was rejected thank goodness-too cold for me

southeastastra · 14/09/2006 21:32

the book is next to me now, all shiny and new (someone lent me one and i had to give it back!)
it will be all dog eared soon!

Pann · 14/09/2006 21:36

hi all!

Fagless for half a day now and going to bed with the Allen Carr book.

Know what you mean...what needs saying was already been said by the man...

notasheep · 14/09/2006 21:37

My copy fell apart but well worth it,since then they have got to know me at the library, getting a copy out for 3 weeks and renewing it(luckily theres is a hard back)
and dont feel guilty if you are still puffing while you are reading it but STOP at the end

southeastastra · 14/09/2006 21:40

i have cut down! that is an achievement to me !! i find it an exciting prospect to give up! i need re-programming

notasheep · 14/09/2006 21:40

Pann-WELL DONE!
Dont know if this will help for the morning,my routine was get up have a black coffee and a fag,
now i get up drink a pint of fizzy water and have a shower straight away( its really helped break the habit of wanting one first thing)

southeastastra · 14/09/2006 21:41

the morning is my downfall but with tea

notasheep · 14/09/2006 21:45

Its sooooooo hard first thing,if you can just get through that UGH,AAAAARGH moment its a start.

To be honest with you i know that i will have a craving for a fag in the morningbut it will only be a brief one now

Pann · 14/09/2006 21:47

plan is to back to having a fizzy vit C drink and some fruit a la the 10/10 thread....and keep occupied....

notasheep · 14/09/2006 21:54

Sounds good and delicious

However that keeping occupied bit....makes me think of having a fag even more.
Allen Carrs secret is you get on with your normal life without having to take up knitting, eat carrot sticks, chew biros...sorry sounds harsh, hope you get what i mean

southeastastra · 14/09/2006 21:57

i find the craving so hard and i'm trying to drink lots of juice as a replacement, although tonight it's grape. i think i need a plastic cigarette

notasheep · 14/09/2006 22:04

southeast-i sat here yesterday and read whyquit.com for over and hour(and dp thinks i am on mums net all the time) that got me through it.

After 3 days(72hours) your body is free of NICOTINE!
Then its all in your brain and its a massive fight which will get easier and easier then one day as you get into bed you will suddenly think bloody hell i havent thought about fags today.

Nicotine is THE DEVIL,I am now so scared of getting Lung Cancer-its a 50% chance, think about it

southeastastra · 14/09/2006 22:05

i know how old are you if?

notasheep · 14/09/2006 22:14

think if has gone to bed
