sea, you can't feel like a failure JUST yet, ok? Have you destroyed those fags? That'll give you power!!!

charliecat · 11/09/2006 15:59

Its a confidence knock but it is possible SEA, it really is.
whyquit.com is fantastic for penetrating your brain and you see yourself in the things they descibe, you feel the irritation from the lack of nicotine etc and begin to understand it...makes it easier.

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 16:02

I also think the nicotine effect is one of the things that make you feel low in self-esteem, like a failure, when really you're making such a good and tough decision to alter your future. Think of yourself 10 years down the line in two different scenarios.

  1. A smoker, possibly ill with something yucky. Coughing away, still trapped. Your kids nagging you all the time and ashamed to be out with you (because by the time they grow up, almost everybody will have stopped smoking)

  2. Healthy, happy, looking back to this moment really glad you made the leap.

i'll cut them up. (it's a full pack too)

charliecat · 11/09/2006 16:04

Where did you get a full packet of fags from on the day you stopped??

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 16:06

i got them this morning, i woke up and got them like any other morning, then sort of had a moment when i thought why am i doing this

charliecat · 11/09/2006 16:07

Ok, so today really should be the day then. really. So do cut then up or drown them and get back to buisness Can never spell that word...please tell me how its really spelt!

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 16:08

maybe i should have planned a day to stop, but i don't know why i've decided to try today. and my mother in law is coming tomorrow argh

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 16:09

business. Think of it as 'busy-ness' then the letters come out right.

does your mil smoke? does she know you smoke?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 11/09/2006 16:12

yes she knows (i've been a smoker 20 years the shame) she secretly smokes too, but i mean the stress she brings with her

charliecat · 11/09/2006 16:12

Thank you...
You can be a bitch to your MIL and blame it on your circumstances

charliecat · 11/09/2006 16:13

Perfect, and she will be envious at your attempt to quit too

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 16:14

yes never thought of that! i'm getting desperate again

charliecat · 11/09/2006 16:16

This is the nature of the beast I am afraid...it infects your head, but if you DONT smoke for the next few hours it goes. And the breaks between get longer and longer.
Everyone will be soooo proud of you.

charliecat · 11/09/2006 16:17

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 16:34

Destroy the fags!! Make the mil jealous!!!

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 21:30

What did you do in the end sea?

notasheep · 11/09/2006 22:29

Good evening from notafag!!!!
Day 3 had massive craving and knew exactly where i could get some nicotine in the house HOWEVER i had a big fight with my brain-NO CHOICE,NO CHOICE........

AND i havent had a fag and KNOW i can do this even when i think i want a fag.

In 13 hours i will have already stopped for 4 days.
Feel bloody well and dp is Mr Stinky

Thankyou Charlie and IFriend for your continuing support

charliecat · 11/09/2006 22:38

Excellent notasheep, hope your still with us SEA
Best word was hotel

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 22:56

And your dd2 got that one, right cc?

notafag, well bloody done. And you didn't even know you were going to stop did you? It just crept up and took you over. That's a bit like me this time too. Previously I've made a big deal about a quit day but this time it just kind of happened. I feel incredibly pleased with myself and quietly optimistic that this really IS the one ...

sea I hope you're still tuning in even if you're still chuffing?

notasheep · 11/09/2006 23:02

Ifriend-did i read somewhere that you had given up loads of times and for a long time-sounded just like me too!!
Yep,this giving up when least expected is making it easier too.Never thought a wisdom tooth extraction would be sooooooo positive.

Remember One day at a time,it can feel like its getting easy,i know it does but you know what i mean.

My big thing is i do not want to be a drug addict anymore and have my whole life controlled by Nicotine

charliecat · 12/09/2006 07:54

Sounding great guys
Ive had another think...scarf was my best word...dd1 but an s on hotel to make it hotels

southeastastra · 12/09/2006 08:08

had a relapse last night but today is another day. stopping cold turkey is so hard. can't i just cut down tons (i think i know the answer ) it's so hard. i called the dr but no appointments

notasheep · 12/09/2006 13:39

Southeast-Cold Turkey is Bloody hard,i am on day 5!!
BUT it is not impossible,i have lost count of the number of times i have given up,its all in the brain you know.Sounds simple but true.If you tell yourself you are missing have a fag then you will crave one even more. You are having a fight with the Nicotine monster but you CAN win.

When i have a craving i think of my 2 brothers. They have never touched a cigarette and yet they have sex, party, drink too much sometimes,go out to dinner, have stressful jobs, children to look after, mortgages to pay, deadlines blah blah blah BUT to deal with these they do not NEED A CIGARETTE and nor do you or i.

I could easily roll a fag now but i am not going to
