i've read the whyquit page now. it's so sad. i'm going to try cold turkey, can't afford patches (the irony of it)

charliecat · 11/09/2006 10:43

Very ironic southeastastra
whyquit made me breathe easier when i was getting in a self imposed tantrum nearly diving out the door for a fag.
The thing that always got me, was the thought of sharing an ashtray with my kids and knowing the damage id done to myself and what they would be doing to themselves bla de bla bla...and the knowledge that I hadnt managed to quit still.
Apart from that gloomy thought..
Morning everyone, another gorgeous day in the south east here.
I have been on a hunt for plates to fit my dishwasher and I cant find any I think we are going to have to have our dinner on two side plates
I got in and out of a multistorey car park today without rattling anyone(got my licence last week for anyone who doesnt know)
and im going to finish gutting my house today i hope.
Whats everyone elses plans?

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 11:36

what do you do when you really fancy one. i've already got though a packet of werthers

charliecat · 11/09/2006 11:37

Well, you have to remind yourself that its never just one, if you have one now im sure as hell in 30-60 mins you will want to have another.
Whereas if you dont, at somepoint you will get some respite from the nagging ache that is nicotine withdrawal.
Have a drink of water, run round the block, frantically type on MN.....

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 11:39

i'll cut the grass! i am so pathetic it's only been 3 hours

charliecat · 11/09/2006 11:40

Read whyquit till you know it inside out. Knowledge is power.
Your body is used to being doped up with nicotine, its craving it, it almost hurts. Its nearly drives you mental, but its more than doable. And its a well worth it.
One morning you will wake up feeling free and fresh and frigging marvelous. Its just getting to that point.
Whatever you do, dont smoke.
And if somethings making you really ratty and likely to storm off in the direction of a fag then leave it till you are in a better frame of mind.
And remeber your never going to stop smoking if you keep having Just Ones to get you through the day!

charliecat · 11/09/2006 11:41

You are soooooooo not pathetic, some smokers never get it together enought o even try stopping, they wake each morning, have a fag, and say Yep Ill try again tommorow, an they never get round to it.

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 12:28

sea, it DOES get easier. The first few days / week are the toughest by far. I'm 3.5 weeks in and honestly am only thinking of fags about twice a day if that and it's nowhere near unbearable when I do think about them.

I developed this method of telling myself when I was feeling bad withdrawals that the sensation was nothing compared to how utterly AWFUL I would feel during 3 months chemotherapy.

CC, dd's back at school today. I miss her already.

I am pleased to be rid of my little darlings for a few hours. I NEVER thought id say that, but we have had a LOOONNGGG summer holiday with not much money so we have been stuck in most of it, and when we did got to the beach on saturday they sat in the car counting pebbles but
What time you picking her up?

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 14:13

i fell asleep after doing the grass just woke up and automatically lit one up. so much for my efforts this morning.

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 14:24

i'll stay off this thread until i can get through 3 straight days. i don't want my sons to stink of my habit

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 15:36

Cc, I've been totally blanked by panboy too (who's now just called pan). Did we do something to offend him?!

OP posts:
imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 15:38

sea, don't stay off the thread! Keep talking to us. We can help. Remember we've all been going through exactly the same thing.

What would have saved you today would have been to not have ANY cigarettes nearby. It's torture having them within reach and trying to resist them. Could you just destroy the remaining ones you have and try again?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 11/09/2006 15:40

yes i'll have to do that. it was just natural to pick one up, i didn't even think twice but stubbed it out after couple of puffs. it made me feel sick, amazing as i was only off them for the morning.

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 15:44

Destroy the rest immediately if you're very serious about quitting. It's good though that you put it out. And you won't have wasted the morning.

OP posts:
charliecat · 11/09/2006 15:56

Theres no need to stay off the thread till your fag-free, at all.
Honestly, been there done that 100 times and eventually got there in the end so I can stand here preaching
Ohhh IF...obviously not cool enough without a fag are we

southeastastra · 11/09/2006 15:57

i feel like a failure already i'll have to read the whyquit again. it's very persuasive.

imaginaryfriend · 11/09/2006 15:59

It's just SO weird and kind of quite rude that he's deafed us out so badly. Don't you think? I don't mind that he doesn't want to be part of this thread but to totally refuse to acknowledge a friendly remark elsewhere seems a bit much. Well, right, from this moment on his name shall not be mentioned. He can fly down to me in a helicopter with a bunch of daffodils and a bottle of champagne and I shall refuse to acknowledge his presence. Sniff.
