For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Sorry i scoffed all the Malteasers last night

I have been very good today though i have eaten my cereal with fruit yoghurt with real fruit peices in coz the milk had gone off (bleugh!) I have also had a pear and a peach! No choocy whatsoever!

The day is still young though

Panboy · 25/08/2006 09:28

Morning all!

A grapefruit so far (which counts for two apparently)....has anyone constructed a convincing argument to include choccie as a 10/10 yet?........

Overrun · 25/08/2006 09:48

Hi Charlee and panboy. Panboy was that a whole grapefruit then?
STrawberries on my cereal and a banana afterwards, but I still have some of those apricots that I poached in honey and vanilla left, so will snack on that and some blueberries.
Shall make a veg soup for lunch, yep that old standby.
Friend coming to stay for the weekend so must be careful not to be distracted from my exercise, by trips to the pub, a late night chats over a botle of wine or two

Aviatrix - family hey? Mine never do anything particularly anecdotal but plenty that really pisses me off

Papillon · 25/08/2006 09:58

Morning All

Hope you are feeling calmer today F&Z and enjoying having your home to yourself again.

Great to see you hear gothicmama, up for a dance anytime... especially after hearing that you like to run around at festivals and get down

I am feeling abit fractious today, think its this week long cold taking its toll and I always go off my food when rumbled. Am off to supermarket now to get some plums cos I love them!

Having been humming and hawing about joining the local womans gym - but think I need it for my sanity after 3 years of being a SAHM.

fullmoonfiend · 25/08/2006 12:29

F&Z - how did I miss that thread?
''I just sat there thinking if I concentrated really hard could I actually merge with the molecules of the table so I could disappear '''
ROFL..

(I went out to my fave restaurant once with work colleagues. They got very drunk, started a food fight and were given a slow-hand-clap off the premises... while I sat very still trying to disguise myself as a lettuce leaf. When they left, I was in tears, apologising to the proprietor. He said: ''Gentle lady, please do come again. But do not breeng your friends for they are peeegs and sons of peeegs...''

Charleesunnysunsun · 25/08/2006 19:23

I have not been managing 10 servings of fruit and veg lately - more like 5? Maybe? Only because I've been binging on nectarines in the evenings. But I've been doing ok for exercise - every day, I either went running in the evenings (leaving the kids alone but running by the cabin every 5 minutes at most, and listening hard), or went for a long canoe trip with DS1, who doesn't actually paddle so much as dip his paddle in the water, adding more drag.

Now I'm in Montreal, where I will a) have web access and b) have good food options - I had a lovely salad, and some aubergine-based dips for tea and c) have DH around so I don't throttle my kids, and so I can get exercise easily.

fullmoonfiend · 26/08/2006 12:45

anyone else's , erm, digestion, erm, suffering from this increase in fruit and veg? Apologies. That smell is me and not the dog...

Charleesunnysunsun · 26/08/2006 12:48

Fullmoonfiend your not alone, lets just leave it at that.

Panboy · 26/08/2006 14:00

No! Lets not leave it there!! Lets discuss in detail!! (remember, its panBOY!)...

yes did notice my system was being challenged, but it largely clears up in couple of days...

back on the muesli with metric tonne of dried fruit....and yet another effing grapefruit...

Overrun · 26/08/2006 15:44

Lets just say that my system has been somewhat challenged by the new regime too. Today, I have had cereal with dried berries in it, tons of grapes, and dried fruit in bara brith, so strugging a bit, but have a friend down and we have been out to a summer fayre and and, have now run out of excuses
Intend to stew some plums with star anise, red wine, honey and cinnamon for tea. Also doing a veggie pizza, so will try and make up ground in the evening

Panboy · 26/08/2006 16:12

Advice needed! I have big ripe blackberries hanging offa a bush!!

Anyone give me a quick receipe for a crumle, please? Just the quantities. Am a bit excited tbh!

fullmoonfiend · 26/08/2006 16:29

How many for? To serve 2. Chop an apple (doesn't have to be a cooking apple. Simmer with a little water and sugar and the blackberries for 5 mins. Get about 1oz plain flour, and 1oz of butter, handful of porridge oats, 1 dessertspn brown sugar rub into breadcrumbs. Put onto cooled fruit, bung in oven for 30mins. TBH, I'm not cetain of quantities as I am an 'instinctive' cook, rather than a follower of recipes Trial and error, mate!

Panboy · 26/08/2006 16:40

FMF - many thanks to you...but roughly, how much berries? I have no idea whatsoever.

fullmoonfiend · 26/08/2006 17:06

How many do you have??!
Seriously, if you have a small cereal bowl's worth, you have enough. Bulk it out with apple if neccessary. If you have a lot of syrup left after cooking, sieve and freeze into ice lollies
At the risk of sounding sexist, are you one of these blokes who needs very precise instructions? Because if so, someone else my have to help you....I have a more artistic than scientific approach to stuff.

Panboy · 26/08/2006 17:11

thanks - no love to cook and DO make up my own reeipes as I go along, with ....varying success!!

Haven't done blackberries before so didn't know if they would totally collapse in the oven, so tons are needed, or if they remain intact.

thank you for all this. When it stops pi**ing down I'll be out in the garden with a bag.

fullmoonfiend · 26/08/2006 17:28

Another lovely, easy one if you have more blackberries later is blackberry fool. (no good for dieting) 1 carton double cream. Beat until it goes in to soft peaks. 1 cup blackberries, lightly cooked in water and little sugar. drain and cool fruit. Beat together, spoon into a glass and chill for 1 hour.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/08/2006 17:39

Blackberries would work in a clafouti, too, if you like custardy things?

I have had no fruit or veg today, but will probably go out and buy some soon. I think there's a good fruitmongers type place around the corner.

I have, of course, been for a run, for about an hour, along the train tracks. So, business as usual here. (It's noon now.)

fullmoonfiend · 26/08/2006 18:30

NQC - recipe please? (love custardy things)

Papillon · 26/08/2006 19:30

You could eat your blackberries for breakfast in a Birchermuesli - yogurt soaked oats or similar mix with fruits. Its power packed. Best to soak the oats in the yogurt overnight in the fridge.

I just bought two ENORMous grapefruit after being inspired by you Panboy and the nifty trick of 2 for 1. Quite a range of fruit today and had lots of vege today at a restaurant terrace filled with mostly bikers. What a load of pervs

Anyway had brussel sprouts, cauliflower, carrots and lots of tomatoes. Black Forest Chocolate Cake for dessert.

Papillon · 26/08/2006 19:32

maybe for make blackberry fruit bars with ots and nuts. Don´t ask for the recipe just my imagination concoting food!
