A spanking new thread for the 10/10 club - week 3

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

This is overrun signing in, so far glass of juice and museli to my name, but am about to add a apple

Panboy · 24/08/2006 13:23

Frances. How much saucier and provocative do you get?? We are already posting under a "spanking thread"..Hmm?? Thoug hI should admit my sofa is very large and comfortable....

Aaanyway......up to 5 if we are counting fruit juices....

FrannyandZooey · 24/08/2006 16:20

Pan have you killed my thread with your shocking innuendo?

I had 5 so far and am going to the gym later. A big vegetable stew for dinner and a piece of fruit, should sort me out for my 10 I reckon.

Papillon · 24/08/2006 16:56

its been a day of halves

half a banana
half an apple
a bit of nectarine
half a peach
handful of grapes

and white bean soup for tea

carrots and brocolli in the pot
onions and garlic (can I count them)
or just stop?

and can I count these halves as wholes? Are they infact more like 5 than 10?

Who knows but I just ate some gingerbread men!

Papillon · 24/08/2006 16:57

spanking rather than smacking - the thought has crossed my mind and panboy name is a hard flat round surface

FrannyandZooey · 24/08/2006 17:28

Papillon have you been on the magic mushrooms again? They don't count towards your 10 a day, I'm afraid...

Guidance on portion sizes in the OP of each 10/10 thread. General rule for fruit is one whole fruit = a portion.

Papillon - you are worse than her!!!!

About to have a veggie based micro-thingy ( it is glorious sunshine here andso a chance to tend to my estate, ratherthan spend 6 hours preparing vegatables - will still put some ROSEMARY in from my ROSEMARY HEDGE that I planted a couple of years ago......

Papillon · 24/08/2006 18:12

Sick kids and its been hard to get more than mouthfuls in - I am having a eat like a bird day.

Thanks Boss for the stern look down your glasses - it suits you

I will try and remain lyrical and flippant in the Yurt about my fruit and vege

Panboy · 24/08/2006 18:18

I know it suits her..I've had it more than once....

Charleesunnysunsun · 24/08/2006 18:24

Shiny hmmmm not sure if that's a compliment or not.........????

I have had my 10 today, i haven't yet had dinner im not really in an eating mood (unless you count the big box of Malteasers DP just brought me!)

I have also been running around like a fly with it's arse on fire so i have had plenty of excersise!

Shiny! Shiny! Shiny!

Panboy · 24/08/2006 18:37

Yes, it was in admiration, Charles.

harpsichordcarrier · 24/08/2006 18:41

onions count towards the five a day don't they? someone fairly reliable told me they did...

Panboy · 24/08/2006 18:51

Yes HC - but one medium onion is one portion...good luck with it!!

harpsichordcarrier · 24/08/2006 19:01

oh don't worry panboy no chance of me joining in unless diet coke and party rings count...

Panboy · 24/08/2006 19:10

Frnaces?? Looks like we've got another of those nasty "freak-show" tourists again.....can you sort her please???

Papillon · 24/08/2006 19:23

probably adds up to about half an onion for me today

I am going to sprout some lentils tomorrow which the kids love and are good in soup. Have been meaning to sprout quinoa for awhile, must try and see what its like.

FrannyandZooey · 24/08/2006 20:09

LOL I am powerless to do anything at all with HC

Don't worry she is just gawping

I have had 7 and am going to fill up from the fruit bowl. Went to the gym for an hour. I am Ms. Squeaky Clean today.

fullmoonfiend · 24/08/2006 20:13

I am a perfect 10 today!

despite being at a nasty theme park all day. Took a picnic stuffed full of fruity goodness and dinner was ratatouille with all home grown veg. But now I want some of Charlee's malteasers....

FrannyandZooey · 24/08/2006 20:19

Charlee had maltesers?

And she didn't share?

OP posts:
gothicmama · 24/08/2006 20:37

well I've managed 5 portions of veg today and a good hour of walking and dance Paps (or anyone) I brought some quinoa - what do I do with it

FrannyandZooey · 24/08/2006 20:46

Boil it like rice, gothicmama, until the little tail bit uncurls from the grain. Then eat it with veg or anything you would normally serve with rice or couscous.

OP posts:
gothicmama · 24/08/2006 20:53

thanks

Overrun · 24/08/2006 21:18

Managed my 10 a day again, but no exercise apart from usual running around.
Bit busy atm, as you might have noticed I have not been around so much, but am still trying to keep the faith.
did a lovely dinner with mushrooms and herbs (and calves liver, won't shout about it as know there are a couple of vegetarians on this), followed by apricots poached in honey and vanilla. Yum
F and Z have you started a thread about your in laws yet, i am all agog

FrannyandZooey · 24/08/2006 21:40

Oh overrun I did, it started off funny and then went a bit wrong in the middle

I think I was trying for laughter in the dark but it was a foolhardy attempt.

Here it is
