For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Ovwrrun - I am heading toward another PB for fruit and veg - 5 so far today - and am offski for another gym session later, as well as flag-laying this afternoon, so will have exercise credits to trade in......

yes, boy top heavy! - more so as even my dd is turning into a bit of a tom-boy . eg rejection of all things pink!!!!

Charlee · 16/08/2006 11:43

Wow loadsa people have joined our little clique!

I had musili for breakfast and am planning salad with something for lunch and another salad with my steak for dinner, and plenty of fruity snacks in between!

Excersise, hmmmmm well im still taking it easy this baby does't allow for alot of vigerous activity (much to dp's disgust )

But i am still trying to do as much as i can get done pottering about the house, scrubbing my filthy carpets and getting the bedroom ready far to early for the new baba!

NotQuiteCockney · 16/08/2006 11:48

Oh, I had pineapple and muesli yesterday, so maybe 9 or 10? Not bad, as I'm on holiday and struggling with food.

Today I'll go running again, not sure about the food bits.

(Oh, but the really good news - DS2 woke us a bit around 1am, but otherwise, everyone slept all night - DS1 only got up around 6:30.)

Panboy · 16/08/2006 13:05

charlee - it's more than just your carpets that are filthy in your house.......and so young!!

was there a link on your 'showing off' note the other day??

chestnutty · 16/08/2006 13:28

To even things out a bit ,I have 2 dds, 13 and 15. I'm quite young though 37.
Made a 4 fruit smoothie at breakfast but i can only count it as 2 portions as dh and dd1 had some as well.
Spent the morning decorating again so plenty of excerise.

Charlee · 16/08/2006 13:34

No link i was just showing off my creative side by using different text.

And i am NOT the filthy one in my house thats deffo DP and he's a couple of yrs older.

Panboy · 16/08/2006 14:07

Yeah, whatever...

NotQuiteCockney · 16/08/2006 18:20

Where on earth is our fearless leader?

30 minutes running, and lunch included lots of fruit, beetroot, and greens. 4 or 5 servings there, I think.

Charlee · 16/08/2006 18:53

Ahhhhhh comfort!!!!

Im wearing my new maternity jeans with a big comfy belly pouch for my ever expanding baby belly, sooooooo much more comfortable now no excuse for lack of excersise.

Hence i have just moved the furniture and gutted out DS bedroom and sorted things out for DC2.

How super healthy am i!

FrannyandZooey · 16/08/2006 18:54

Oh sorry

I have been working, and eating chocolate cake, and having a generally fairly terrible hassly sort of day actually

It has not finished yet, please send me some calming lentilly vibes

FrannyandZooey · 16/08/2006 19:03

Oh I feel crap

what a shitty day

wish I hadn't had that chocolate cake either, have enormous cravings and sugar comedown now

I am 34 years old and have developed precisely zero sensible mechanisms for dealing with stress in my life

Oh aviatrix, I think you must have been pulling up on your neck too much doing the sit ups. It should be a tiny little movement really and your neck should not be bent, you should be looking at the ceiling all the time.

We did some variations on the crunches at my class last night - did the normal sort as I described before, then pulled in knees to chest and did very small lifts of calves, again you feel the pull on your stomach quite quickly. We did those for a bit (I think they are called reverse curls), then alternated crunches with reverse curls, then did them both together

from the state of my stomach muscles it was really quite effective

meanwhile I am still having a shitty day.

(ps I had nasty headache for first few days of eating the 10 portions - bit of a detox headache I think)

Overrun · 16/08/2006 22:04

hello, I am back victorious from my exercise class, I just about managed to keep up but will certainly pay for it tomorrow.
Why such a crap day Franny, or do you not want to say?
I've had a good day fwiw, took ds1 to Thomas the tank engine show, he loved it and in the middle of the show he turned to me and whispered vehemently "I love you mummy", argh makes it all worthwhile.
Fruit and veg probably an eight, so not too bad.

FrannyandZooey · 16/08/2006 22:16

Ah bless his heart Overrun

I can't really be more specific about the crapness because I am so easily ruddy identifiable on here. NQC will know what I mean when I say it is the same bloody problem again. But thank you. I have had a good old rant about it to a friend tonight which did help. Just have to deal with it all again tomorrow

I think I must have had my 10 portions but I haven't been counting. I ate loads of fruit and had a big salad for dinner so I am pretty sure I did.

Sorry I am a damp dishrag tonight, I hope everyone else is feeling well and happy

fullmoonfiend · 16/08/2006 22:23

OHm, ohm ohm (feel free to slap me, F&Z )

Have crammed myself full of fruit and veg today, in preparation for the next 4 days of festy fast food...and er, alcohol etc.

See y'all Tuesday for some serious detoxing

Panboy · 16/08/2006 23:47

Aviatrix - Frances is exactly right, he says humbly - keep your chin up and keep looking atthe ceiling - your neck should have no strain whatsoever..and the movement should only take your shoulders and a wee bit of your upper back off the floor- when you feel the pull on your abs you know it is working - finger tips on your temple....
Overrun - lovely about expression of love...sooo.. what is he after?...well, he is male.....and NQC, v. impressed with your commitment, if I may say, with being in a different environment and so in less immediate control??

For me it's been working outside all day, and not eaten hardly anything - veggie sausages with some veg. - about 7 for the day, so not too bad...totally shagged..night night.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 02:41

Oh god, Frances, still? Can't you just go around and slap the responsible parties (the grownup ones, obviously ... really only one grownup party involved?) and make them be more reasonable?

Do you want the colouring in book I mentioned before? They have Hidden Fur and Hidden Exoskeletons and I don't remember what else.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 02:45

Oh, and I did a load more walking, but not a lot of great eating - bit of salad at dinner, and some carrot sticks etc. Probably not 10.

I think I'm struggling, atm, to take in as many calories as I'm putting out (still) and just not in the mood for much. Dinner was at a v mainstream restaurant, and very heavy, so I am regretting it. Will have to try to go somewhere raw food ish tomorrow for tea.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 08:11

at everyone calling me Frances

NQC sorry did not see colouring book links yet, hold on

yes some slaps are much needed, sadly

will email you

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 08:14

NQC, would you please get one for me? They look great. I think he would like hidden fur, please. I can sort it with you when I see you, is that ok?

And please do try to eat things

Morning Frances. Morning all.

anything healthy is absolutely refusing to enter my mouth this morning...a kind of 'force field' is in operation, and anything with fibre or vitC is being repelled...
