For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Pan

Pull yourself together man. Are you eating crap? Stop it at once, you were our shining inspiration.

Aviatrix I am sorry about your back and feel vaguely responsible as well. I do hope it improves quickly.

NQC just checking you are set up to receive email while over there? I wasn't sure if your mail was web based or what.

No, ma'am!!

not eating anything!! Suspect am subconsciously reacting to the 199.04lbs news on Monday..

have decided to turn a negative into a positive, and go for a fructose-fest at lunch time and see what kind of rush that brings as compared to a glucose rush....so brave of me!!

Panboy · 17/08/2006 12:08

Just heard a srereo-type being blown out of the water!......

I am the only male in this thread(?), and yet I am the one who raises the question of a 'weight management' issue! pmsl

Overrun · 17/08/2006 12:09

Hi all,
Pan boy, you have such a cynical view of your own sex! He did get spoiled rotten yesterday, as after the Thomas show he had lunch with both of us parents, so he enjoyed that.
won't press you any more Fand Z, just hope that you are feeling better today.
NQC, I am so impressed with you keeping this up in any sort of way while on holiday, hats off to you. do you always take a laptop away with you?
Or have you got a pc there?
Can't believe that I don't feel worse after yesterdays exercise class, wonder if acheing muscles are yet to come.
So far, big glass of grape juice, a home made blueberry and banana smoothie. Incidently, my fussy three year old will not eat smoothies, despite being assured on various threads that its a failsafe way of getting them to eat fruit.
Fullmoonfiend, have a great time at the festival.
Aviatrix, hope your sore neck gets better soon

Overrun · 17/08/2006 12:11

in answer to your question pan, I'm not bothered about the weight, though sure it wouldn't hurt to lose a few pounds. I am actually wondering if I might have put on a few due to all those sugary fruits

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 12:22

Yes thank you Overrun, I would in truth love to spill all about it, but it's the other person's privacy I am worried about. I have screwed up courage to sort of deal with it now at least, just waiting for the fall out...

Pan is 199 lbs a lot? I don't know what it converts to in stones but it doesn't sound that much to me. How tall are you? You should eat, really. Are you not hungry?

I think I have streamlined out a bit, eating this way. I was struggling to do the zip up on this dress last week but it fits again now.

OP posts:
Panboy · 17/08/2006 12:26

No no no questions being asked!!! At all!!!

just realised it was the male amongst us who raised the thing as opposed to a female. That is all....

cynical about my own gender?? Hmm..not really..but it is different looking out from the inside!!

eg, just read on another thread about a woman who is "training her man" to talk about his feelings. She mentions this in context as he chose to stay in a pub rather than going home. Quelle surprise!....

suspect NQC isn't in Canada at all!! She is in a basement flat in Edmonton, and will remain there for a futher 2 weeks.....

hey-ho - back to flagging...(which I am)

Panboy · 17/08/2006 12:29

199.04lbs is just shy of 14 and a half stone...fighting weight for me is about 12 and a half....am 6 foot, so can carry weight well, but not too keen to. Nice news on your dress.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 12:31

Ok, it's not very heavy then, IMO

my dp's weight fluctuates between those figures but he is only about 5 ft 8, so you must be fairly slim I reckon

How did you put the weight on? Drink or food?

OP posts:
Overrun · 17/08/2006 12:35

Alcohol, I would put money on it, after his lebonese black comments, it is clear that this is a man who likes his diversions in life shall we say.

Panboy · 17/08/2006 12:43

Overrun - you couldn't be further from the truth.

it's lack of exercise and being a little careless on what I have been eating, hence this is sooo good!!

Slim bottom half (32" jeans?) but broad on top where the weight accummulates from time to time _ like now!

too much disclosure!! Back to flagging andwork some weight offa!

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 12:50

Too much disclosure? No such thing! Come on Overrun, we have got him in a revealing sort of mood, evidently, let's play Good Cop Bad Cop and get him to tell us everything

OP posts:
Overrun · 17/08/2006 12:52

slim bottom half and bigger on top, that smacks of beer belly to me

NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 12:56

Frances, my normal email works ok. [email protected] works better.

My "normal" weight, pre-kids, was 13 and a bit stones. I am 5'6" but fairly muscly with it.

I'm now at 75 kg which is 12 stone? I think?

I am ok with losing weight, but feel I am losing it too quickly or not on purpose or something.

Anyway, yeah. No run today, am taking kids to a water park, so will get exercise that way. DH has a phone meeting at noon local time so will not be going .

DS1 will be rambunctious with my sister's whingy older child, and will get told off for doing things he's been goaded or coaxed into doing. DS2 will follow my niece about and give her hugs, and I will be told he is mauling her. Which is a slightly pejorative term, given he's half her size and well-intentioned.

I will try to eat more fruit today, anyway. There's a good juice stall at the water park, or there was, last time I was there.

Yes, I always holiday with laptop, have "work" to do (volunteer stuff) and laptop has a couple of movies on it. Ok, and my exercise tapes. Also, managing without web access sucks - this way I can email people to arrange things etc.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 13:00

Pan there is only one way to determine if you have a beer belly or not. Post a photo

NQC do I take out the dots as well or just the delete this bit?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 13:00

Ok, will grab Hidden Fur. They look lovely.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 13:01

"will grab Hidden Fur"

Redbush tea sprayed on keyboard alert

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 13:01

All dots are ok, except for last one before the delete bit.

Nice to run into you, my schedule is quite weird these days.

Have committed to yarn shopping tomorrow, will probably get shoes. Oh, and have bought Old Navy clothes, for the novelty value, and bras that actually fit, from a bra store I actually like. And about a billion graphic novels.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 13:04

Ha ha.

Oddly enough, after I saw them in the shop, I couldn't remember the book name. But felt that "hidden exoskeleton" was a better search term than "hidden fur".

I fear I won't have web access next week. We're in town now, so there are lots of unsecured wireless networks, and actually I'm plugged into a network wire that was lying on the floor, atm. (There are computers, but I couldn't feel comfortable using them.)

Next week we'll be in a resort in the country. No DH, either. Will be strange.

Overrun · 17/08/2006 13:18

I have only recently got into this computer lark NQC, but can see the logic.
your sisters children sound like a barrel of laughs.
I am the only one of my lot to have bred so far, although my brother has one on the way, so we shall see how they all get on together/
god the house is a pigsty and I just can't be bothered, sometimes wished I hadn't got hooked to this Mumsnet thing

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 13:26

Pls describe bras and graphic novels. Or post pictures. Someone has to post pictures.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 13:28

Bras are very simple, wireless, they fit well and I like them. I'd like to have bought more than 2, but they only had 2 that were right.

We bought a lot of graphic novels. Like 20? 30? Most are being shipped to us in the UK, as we didn't want the extra weight on the trip back. We have a lot of graphic novels at home, the cousins spent most of their two weeks reading all of them.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 13:31

What are your favourites? I haven't read new ones for years, but I used to love Love and Rockets and Swamp Thing the best. Oh and Tank Girl. My nickname at Uni was Tank Girl

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 17/08/2006 13:33

My old partner liked those a lot. I went off Love and Rockets eventually.

Hmm, I like anything Lynda Barry does. I like Y: the Last Man. I like Frank Miller. I like Carol Lay. Kyle Baker. Oh, and I just got some copies of Beanworld, so am going mad with that.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2006 13:44

I don't know any of those except Frank Miller. I am out of the loop, evidently.
