For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Welcome everybody

It's fine to join at any point, just tell us how you are getting on and make sure you don't do better than me every day. I have been out dancing like a loon to Bhangra music so I have definitely done my exercise for the day. If only I had known that we were all going to eat hash cakes it would have been even more enjoyable (although from past experience the enthusiasm for dancing tends to wane )

Just about to eat some pasta with sweetcorn and green beans, which I believe takes me to a nearly perfect 9...

The day is not over yet gothicmama! Go and eat some fruit, go for a walk, or otherwise shake yourself around a bit

I think I need to join this thread too. I've always struggled to eat even 5 portions per day let alone 10. But I forced myself to do it a couple of months ago and felt a lot better after about 10 days. Have been slacking badly recently, have only managed 2 portions so far today.

Agree that you need to build up slowly if you don't already eat at least 5 fruit & veg regularly. I aimed for 7 from about 1 or 2 and had godawful indigestion.

Skipping (with a rope) is good - kids love it too so you don't have to feel like a complete prat doing it by yourself.

Does anyone else find it more difficult to keep fruit and veg intake up in the winter?

FrannyandZooey · 14/08/2006 19:05

I think your body is more primed to eat stodge in winter, and there is not so much seasonal fruit around, so what is in the shops tastes crap and costs loads IMO. Roast dinners, soups and casseroles are all good ways to eat lots of winter vegetables.

Skipping? Ruddy hell. Tell me the name of your pelvic floor trainer some day Mercy

Hi to all newcomers, I can recommend this lark, feel v smug and perhaps a little bit healthier already.
That oculd be something to do with my thirteen portions today. Had loads of grapes, Kale, cherries and Nectarine this afternoon and evening.
Mercy - I wondered about skipping as well, but last tried it before kiddies.
heiferjamese are you one of those people who buy an exercise bike and never use it?If so go on break the trend
I must admit that I have got a bit carried away with all this myself and ordered two fitness dvds on Amazon today. Please all keep me on the straight and narrow so that I actually get some use from them

gothicmama · 14/08/2006 20:44

Does HC know about this latest putsch of yours Franny?

What on earth made you think you caould get away with it?

The baskets have gone to your head again

FrannyandZooey · 14/08/2006 21:35

Now now don't drag HC into this

I believe she may have been too busy to notice this thread, yes

and don't tell Boris either!

NQC knows. I am surprised I got away with it for as long as I did, actually. We had a fab thread all last week with flirting on it and everything.

OP posts:
Overrun · 14/08/2006 21:35

he refers to himself as a boy actually, we all got excited about having a pan boy in our midst, thinking along the lines of greek gods etc, turns out to be more of a peter pan! But Franny wormed his real life age out of him, 45
